White Sox Acquire Nick Swisher from Athletics

A lot more has to happen for Oakland to win this trade than the Sox. As of now, the Sox know they are getting a proven commodity for at least the next four seasons, while the A's are not guaranteed of ANYTHING -
People forget that we CANT go into a full rebuilding mode - it would kill our fanbase and cause the payroll to drop to 70 mil

Check out Swisher's girlfriend - Daniella Gamba.... -
Just curious, but Oakland's farm system has to be pretty stacked... Who are their top 5 or so prospects? They have Gio, DLS, Cunningham and Chris Carter correct?

Here is my .02 KW won this trade and won this trade in a landslide, my reason? Let's imagine for a minute that this trade happened on January 3, 2007 and not 2008. Would the A's of made this trade? Absolutely not. Swisher was coming off of a huge year and Gio was traded for Freddy. Now the big question is whether or not Swishers big year was an anomaly. I say no. Some more thoughts: -In essence, we capitalized off of Swisher having a down year to get him cheap. Yes, I said cheap. -Not only that, but we traded DLS at arguably "peak" value. -We get a young player with much more certainty of future success, whereas the others have no guarantee of anything -Highly rated prospects only help teams in two ways: 1. trading for another proven player or 2. turning out to be productive players. Having highly rated prospects sitting in our system does not have value in itself. -Get over the fact that our farm system sucks, it can always be replenished. -NOBODY knows how DLS will turn out, not KW not BB not DLS himself. Thinking he is a sure thing is foolish. My prediction? Swisher has a great year, Gio has a solid year and DLS has a good but not great year. A year from now, this will look like a lopsided trade in the Sox's favor. Sorry for the rambling post!! -
He has really changed his life around, and I wish him the best!

Why would Texas do that?

The hottest free-agent starting pitcher on the market is a guy who has one win in the past 27 months and probably won't throw a pitch before Mother's Day. That's Mark Prior, a fellow being chased by nearly a dozen teams. And here they are, according to the best info we've been able to piece together: Yankees, Red Sox, White Sox and Mariners in the AL. Mets, Cardinals, Padres, Astros, Giants, Reds and Nationals in the NL. Some teams that have passed on Prior are saying they don't expect him to pitch before July. Others are concerned that he opted "only" for arthroscopic shoulder surgery over more extensive surgery. But his agent, John Boggs, told Rumblings that Prior is so confident he'll have a big year, he isn't even interested in a two-year deal. "That's why a two-year deal is not acceptable -- because we're planning on him being good," said Boggs, who has continually declined to discuss the degree of interest from any specific teams. "We're not planning on taking a two-year deal and then having him break down. … We're not even looking for one year and an option. We'll take our chances." Prior is now eight months down the road from surgery and is expected to start throwing off a mound in January. Boggs has been advising teams not even to expect Prior to pitch in a game in spring training. While some clubs are already firing offers at him, Prior is in no hurry to "rush the process," his agent said.

Other players that Anderson has obtained “the clear” and “the cream” for from Balco are Benito Santiago, Gary Sheffield, Marvin Benard, Jason Giambi and Randy Velarde. Sometime [sic] the substances are given to Anderson to give to the athletes and sometimes the athletes are given the substances directly. . . . MORE COMING

The fact that most people think this trade is so ridiculous actually makes me think it wasn't so bad of an idea. It is risky, original and worth a shot IMO. Not many of the trades that KW makes are predicted by people on here. Hey, you never know how the Marlins view Fields compared to Maybin. Same goes for KW. This is still the kind of deal I would make. Clearly there are very poor options available for CF, and it would probably be easier to fill the 3B hole than the CF hole (both long term and short) What would it take to trade for a guy like Blalock? He seems to be in the doghouse and still has huge upside for a young 3B. I would be willing to get rid of pitching prospects, Fields and Owens to acquire a combo of Maybin/Blalock
-
"Had the Marlins actually thought that Fields's value was anywhere close to Maybin's, we'd have Miguel Cabrera right now. " Not necessarily. I think the Marlins really wanted Miller more so than Maybin. They could of liked Fields more than Maybin, but if they REALLY liked Miller MUCH more than Gio, Danks, then they still make the trade with Detroit...
-
I guess I was confused on what side they thought it was unfair for... Regardless, I think it is tougher to find a young star in CF compared to 3B, hence why I would think about doing such a deal. Also, in the short term I would rather have Crede at 3B (even if only for 1 year) than Owens in CF... IMO Maybin, Crede > Fields, Owens Rip me all you want, but I think this is creative and would look very good for the Sox down the line...
-
You guys seem to be putting a halo on Maybin. Obviously, he could be a star or be a bust. Moreover, to say that Fields could become an All-Star in a few years would not be a stretch.
-
How is this idea to get a CF? Trade Fields and Owens for Cameron Maybin... Florida still needs a 3B and Fields fits the bill. We can resign Crede and have a young CF that can come back and torture Detroit in the division...
