  1. Panthers announce that safety Mike Minter is retiring. They no doubt asked him to hold off announcing this as it would of severly affected their leverage in negotiations with the Bears. The Bears should of gotten at least a 4th round pick.
  2. With the exception of Fields, what solid position players do we have for the next 5+ years that are not over 30 years old???? Trading Jenks could bring 2-3 quality players that could be fixtures for years.....
  3. My guess, since I live here in NYC as well, is either the Palace, St. Regis or Waldorf
  4. Given that we are only fans, and this KW's job, you have to believe he has considered this. That being said, what would preclude him from pulling the trigger on a deal like this? Media backlash? Afraid of a white flag image? Having not been afraid in the past to make unpopular deals, why would this be any different?
  5. Reading about all the teams chasing KC's reliever Dotel has me AGAIN wondering what Bobby Jenks would be worth? Are teams that deperate for relief pitching that they are willing to send quality prospects for an aging player like Dotel? Would Jenks not command a Teixeira like package?
  6. QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 9, 2007 -> 04:10 PM) Answers.com would not lie to me! Answers.com stock (ANSW) is a good buy right now at around $12...
  7. If there is more truth to the article than lie, then I am very disappointed. Maybe I was expecting too much from our players, but that article sounds like KW is getting laughed at. Am I reading it wrong?
  8. RUMBLINGS AND GRUMBLINGS There sure were a lot of confused people all over baseball Wednesday when word spread that the White Sox had reversed course and were trying to sign Mark Buehrle. Right up until Tuesday afternoon, Kenny Williams was still in sell mode, asking for the kind of package we haven't seen in any deadline deal since Scott Kazmir for Victor Zambrano (2004). Or possibly even Carlos Guillen, Freddy Garcia and John Halama for Randy Johnson (1997). "Judging by what he asked from us, he's been asking for every team's two best prospects -- or at least two out of their best three," an official of one interested club grumbled Wednesday. So if we use that logic, that means Williams asked the Mets for Mike Pelfrey and Carlos Gomez, asked the Braves for Jarrod Saltalamacchia and/or Yunel Escobar/Brent Lillibridge, asked the Cardinals for Colby Rasmus and Jaime Garcia, and asked the Red Sox for Clay Buchholz and Jacoby Ellsbury. So over and over, we heard the same message: "He may get that kind of price from somebody. But it won't be from us." So you should be wary of all reports that suggest none of the potential Buehrle deals broke down over the cost in players. Every team was balking. And another thing: Red Sox officials have told every club they've spoken to that they were never close to any deal for Buehrle and actually didn't do a whole lot more than inquire about what it would take. One more complication the White Sox were running into was their lack of interest in granting teams a 72-hour window to get Buehrle signed. Some clubs (Boston and Seattle, for instance) didn't mind dealing for him as a rental. But the Cardinals, Mets and Braves head the list of teams that clearly would have wanted a window. One team said chairman Jerry Reinsdorf was adamant about not granting any negotiating time. But an official of another club says the White Sox would have had no choice but to relent. "If it meant he was going to get the kind of player he was looking for, and the club getting him was going to have to give away that kind of prospect plus pay market dollars, they can say whatever they want. How could they not give the window?" And consider the potential downside of trading for Buehrle and not signing him. "Don't get me wrong," said an official of one team in the Buehrle hunt. "He's a very attractive guy. But if you trade for him and can't sign him, you're talking about a three-month rental and you're looking at draft picks that might not be as good as they look. If you make the assumption he'd then go out and sign with the [sub-.500] Cardinals, you're not even going to get a first-round pick. You're getting a sandwich pick. So say you're getting the 38th pick and a second-rounder. I mean, how good are those picks?" With or without Buehrle on the shelves, the White Sox clearance sale is still definitely in progress. But teams have been wary of Jermaine Dye's health and Tadahito Iguchi's lackadaisical play. And Jose Contreras and Javier Vazquez haven't been as enticing as the White Sox thought they'd be, either, given that they're signed through 2009 and 2010, respectively. "I'd have a hard time hanging my hat on those guys," said an official of one team shopping for pitching. "I don't know what's happened to Javy Vazquez. He's just not the same pitcher we all loved a couple of years back. And I don't know a lot of people who are sold on Contreras' reliability, either."
  9. ^ You are mistaken if you feel Tyrus and Amare's games are EVEN CLOSE to each other.
  10. I agree - why would Minnesota accept an offer like this from Chicago or Atlanta? Paxson should try to get this done, I am sure he is trying. Last year they could of had Tyrus, Luol, and Ty Chandler - a dang good package of young players.
  11. A Phoenix radio station is reporting a potential deal that would send Kevin Garnett to Phoenix, Amare Stoudemire to Chicago, and a combination of #9 pick, Ben Gordon and/or Tyrus Thomas to Minneapolis. If this happens, I am a VERY happy Bulls fan. Let's cross our fingers.
  12. "I remember when you were a pup talking about how you wanted Contreras on the Southside "for life." Hypocrite." So fans are supposed to be married to their opinions forever? What does loyalty to a current viewpoint do? I think everyone on this board is a loyal White Sox fan, doesn't mean they can't change their opinions on the team. Players change, people change, MLB changes, and thus fans opinions change. Part of life. Deal with it.
  13. "5.) If the Sox are going to truly rebuild, as in trade off most of the older, more expensive players for young unproven talent then chances are they're not going to be even close to competing over the next 2-4 years. Meaning a closer of Jenks' caliber really isn't needed and becomes a luxury at that point. And considering the kind of talent Detroit, Cleveland and even Minnesota are going to have on their major league rosters in the coming seasons I'm not sure an all out rebuilding phase would be all that bad of an idea." Exactly my point - agree 100%
  14. The fact that he costs the minimum only INCREASES his value. I have to disagree that he is not a luxury - when your team has zero chance to win the WS, you do not need a closer like Jenks. Our team his significant holes, a few could be filled by trading Jenks.
  15. I have a hard time believing that we can reload and compete with Detroit and Cleveland. My stance stays the same, if we are a .500 or sub .500 team, we do not need a top 5 closer like Jenks. He could probably fetch MUCH more than our starting pitchers.
  16. First question is whether the Sox are CONSIDERING trading Bobby Jenks? IMO, if the Sox won't be competitive for many years, then why do we need a upper-echelon closer like Jenks? Given that Jenks is locked up for many years at a reasonable rate, he could probably fetch MORE than anyone of the Starting Pitchers. Agree? If we blow up the team, why would we keep Jenks? He seems like a luxury that a rebuilding team should not have..... Thoughts?
  17. So what is the opinion on the board; will the trade offers be more appealing than the compensation picks or is it too difficult to tell as of now?
  18. I am not very familiar with the compensation pick system. If we were to lose Buerhle and Dye, how many picks would we receive and would they be 1st rounders or "sandwich" picks? How does it work?
  19. This grinder talk won't go away: "Williams downplayed any suggestion that the Sox lacked an edge without designated hitter Carl Everett. "We're not missing him, but that's why we went out to get an edgy kind of guy like Darin Erstad," Williams said. "We wanted to get that grinder." Fun Fact of the Day: The White Sox have not won a game on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday since May 22nd when they beat Oakland 10-4.
  20. Would you guys do this trade if you were me? I trade: Sizemore and Peralta I receive: Tejada and Zimmerman I play in a 5x5 league
  21. Well this is who I ended up with - a 10 team league - 5x5. How do you all think I did? 22. I find it hard to draft 1B's. There are so many that hit for HR's and RBI's, and it makes me wonder if there is a huge difference b/t a top 5 1B and a 10-15 1B... For instance, if there is a run on 1B early, do you wait, or try and jump on the train? Every draft, that seems to happen with a certain position
  23. What a warm response!! I do my own research - but it is always good to get thoughts from others.
  24. cmon - i know you all play too!!
  25. Its almost time for my fantasy draft, and I am turning to the experts here at Soxtalk for advice! I would love some input from everyone on the following categories: 1. This years potential Liriano's 2. Players on the decline - stay away from 3. Comeback players 4. Solid players that you can draft in late rounds. 5. New closers 6. Underrated / Overrated players Also, I am in a keeper league, and we get to keep two players. Which two would you guys keep out of all these: A-Rod, Vernon Wells, Jason Bay, Roy Oswalt, Maggs
