  1. He also wouldn't be the first to successfully come back from surgery.
  2. He is only 29, and wont turn 30 until August... And people are saying he is washed up!!
  3. I see Buehrle getting a Carlos Lee contract, somewhere along the lines of 6 years 100 mil
  4. Does everyone really think that KW wants those guys competing for the 5th spot this year, or is it just a smoke-screen for a signing?
  5. Is it just me or has KW shown in the past that he would rather have a veteran as the 5th pitcher than a rookie struggle? It seems as if he wanted a young guy as the 5 - it would be McCarthy. Whether its Mulder or not, is anyone else expecting us to sign a veteran pitcher?
  6. Regardless of how adamant you are against Mulder there is no denying that he has a chance to return to his form while he was with Oakland. All this at a RELATIVELY cheap price, while costing us zero prospects. Everyone has their own opinions, but it seems well worth the risk. Some pitchers do come back and return to form - it is not unheard of.
  7. In 2005 Mulder went 16-8 3.64 ERA 1.38 WHIP 205 IP 3 CG 2 SO Since when is that mediocre or poor?
  8. QUOTE(IowaSoxFan @ Dec 27, 2006 -> 08:04 PM) And who's to say that his decline has been due to the injury, I know that he was out this year with the injury, but he may have been battling it for a while. With almost a year off to recover he could be back into his Oakland form, or he might stink, buts its a gamble that is worth taking. I couldn't agree more - well said.
  9. It is not certain that he is washed up at all - who knows how he will come back...
  10. Its a moderate/high risk if we expect him to win 15-17 games for us. Is it risky to expect him to compete and have a chance to return to prominence for a price well below the Ted Lilly range? IMO - No.
  11. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Dec 27, 2006 -> 02:44 PM) I wouldn't touch him until he shows that he's at least close to healthy, and even then it's unlikely that he'll be his old self. He was starting to decline even before the injury, I don't want to think about what he'll look like afterwards. If you wait until he's healthy then every team is after him and he becomes expensive. The whole point of this would be to take a low risk / high return chance.
  12. What surgery did Mulder end up having? Was it successful?
  13. Nobody is giving Mulder a 4 or 5 year guaranteed contract - that is absurd even in this current market...
  14. The point is that you can sign a potential All-Star at a much discounted price. And how is it directly delay the development of a young pitcher if he isn't even ready until mid-year? That would allow an arm to be traded mid-season if Mulder is pitching great, or for Mulder to step in if the young guys are not doing well. What are the odds he ends up pitching at his old level? Who knows. But IMO, it is worth the 2 year investment.
  15. I am going to revisit this thought on Mark Mulder. What would be wrong with giving Mulder a 2 year incentive rich contract? If he is not ready until mid-year they could start one of the young guys and then have the luxury of Mulder in mid-season. How about signing Mulder for 2 years $12m??
  16. Has there been any commentary of the trade posted by Sportsline or ESPN Insider? If so, what was said?
  17. Hypothetically, if it were A-Rod - what would YOU be willing to give up if you were the GM? Would you give up Crede, Danks, and a mid-level prospect?
  18. Are we assuming that amassing these pitching prospects will result in KW parlaying them into a major acquisition?
  19. Another sign that mediocre SP's are getting paid a fortune: Jeff Suppan signs a 4yr 42m contract The same Jeff Suppan that was unwanted a few years back...
  20. Kenny and the rest of the front office personnel have the responsibility to plan into the future. The future is not just 2007 or 2008 as most would say. The fact that they have such a targeted approach is encouraging. Whether that plan proves to be successful or not is another issue, and only time will tell.
  21. Can someone post Baseball America's scouting report on Danks and Massett?
  22. Can anyone post the Baseball America profiles of Danks and Massett?
  23. Hes a Chicago native, good friends with Konerko, a favorite of KW... Why not sign Mulder, and trade Garland and someone else for an impact player...
  24. It just seems like a great opportunity to buy low - on a pitcher with high risk but maybe the most upside. This is the kind of deal that could look amazing in a year or two.
