How many wins do you need by the ASB to still be IN?
Greg Hibbard replied to Greg Hibbard's topic in Pale Hose Talk
1983 was a bad start then an insanely hot last 100 games. Edit: I checked and it was something like 79-38 over their last 117. Wow. -
4/6/23 Giants @ White Sox 1:10 Game Time
Greg Hibbard replied to wegner's topic in 2023 Season in Review
During the off-season I really struggled. Last year was the worst year as a Sox fan in my lifetime. Most diehards I know my age say the same thing. Once spring training rolled around and Grifol was seemingly saying all the right things, and many of the guys looked good, the old feelings came back. It’s hard not to get excited about the positives. Especially the defense. I’m not happy about the pitching at all. But the whole league is kind of getting rocked this week. -

Plenty of people are slinging mud all over this game thread and saying Grifol can’t manage, or certain players aren’t good enough, or Eloy will never be healthy ever. Come on. Plenty of bridge jumping already. It’s fine to be upset but why piss all over the board for a 3-4 start? I’m exhausted by reading this s%*# already. Let’s act like we’ve watched baseball before. It’s a loooooong season. -
So let’s get into this now, since so many people seem to want to be OUT on this team in the first week. What is the number of wins the Sox have to have by the all star break to make you believe and be IN on this team?

But why are we all racing to the conclusion that it’s bad? Seriously. It’s like Grifol and the team had a week to be gangbusters awesome or everyone will jump off of a bridge. We are 3-4 and a new manager is settling in. -

Yes but all of these things are happening early. Eloy is out for 2 weeks. Max he misses 19 games with this injury. If he has another injury, then I will worry. A lot of good starters league wide are getting rocked or injured early. Gonna write off Scherzer, Fried, Gonsolin, Robbie Ray while you’re at it? Might as well. Hendriks looks as though he may return and the bullpen is fixable by acquisition. The offense has plenty of pop and the defense is great. It’s going to be a rocky first 45 games but even if we are 5 under, it’s fine. It’s fixable. TLR was NOT fixable. Neither were the rampant injuries up and down the lineup. -

I wouldn’t write off a competitive team in a competitive division until game 100. Nobody in their right minds thinks the 2023 white Sox are in a comparable spot to the 2022 bears. Come on. -

To all those jumping on the 3-4 Sox after 7 games “knowing” that they’re awful or done for the year or whatever…congrats, you’ve done the exact equivalent of writing off an NFL team in the third quarter their first game while they are slightly losing! -

I thought Grifol said he would face lefties but sit sometimes early in the season with certain matchups. I really wish people would jump to conclusions based on one week. I think Colas will face left handed starters this year, don't you? -

if Oscar Colas is playing 5 out of 7 games, and pinch hitting in a sixth, is he "platooning"? -
Eloy to IL, low grade hamstring strain - retroactive to 4/4

Heartbreaking to see how many of our "fans" literally come with hatred and venom for someone for getting injured. Jeez, guys. He got fucking injured. You think he wanted to? -
It could just be that an otherwise pretty good player had a really bad game.
-
Was at the game. Yes it’s sucked, yes Kopech got teed up today. Ruiz yes DFA. I don’t know what to make of it with Kopech, and obviously he has the stuff and has been effective in some roles. It could be like Lopez, where he takes a long path to better role.

I really love that we have a manager who believes in filling out the card with a fairly regular, consistent lineup.

Man, White Sox Twitter is pretty brutal on Robert already. “Move him down” “he’s done” etc. It’s 3 freaking games. He will be fine.

GT: 4/1 | Sox (1-1) @ Astros (1-1) | Giolito vs. Urquidy
Greg Hibbard replied to Eminor3rd's topic in 2023 Season in Review
They’ve looked competitive and the problems look fixable. Im really not worried about the hitters this early, and errors happen. Was glad to see Giolito get it together and gut it out. I’m glad some of these issues are coming up now so Grifol can address them. I can’t explain it, but I’m actually optimistic with what I’ve seen, although I fully admit I might be fooling myself. -
3/31 GT: Sox @ Astros (Lynn v Javier) 7PM, NBCSN
Greg Hibbard replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in 2023 Season in Review
Eh, I don’t mind Sheets tonight. You sub in Andrew once a LH reliever subs in and leave him in for the balance. I would rather max out lefties. -
I liked Leury for the role he was suited for. We needed a little more in several areas, and his ceiling was very low and well defined, and there wasn’t any upside left. The best we could hope for was 1 WAR as a part time player who didn’t kill us on defense when used out of position. I believe we will do significantly better with our new strategy. If the plan is to play the starters, and Robert stays healthy, and Andrus works out at second, Leury’s two best defensive positions he might have gotten 25-30 combined starts in.
-
Hell yes!
-
Sure, but 1 WAR is acceptable for a utility player. -1 WAR is not.

What do Sox want, expect, NEED from Colas this year?
Greg Hibbard replied to vilehoopster's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I seem to recall reading somewhere that Ozzie disliked Anderson and didn’t think he was a real major leaguer. Is that true? -

Greg Hibbard replied to vilehoopster's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I expect him to stay healthy, and if he does that, I don’t care about his numbers as long as they are above 2 per162. the rest is honestly gravy. I expect much more from our established players. Moncada needs to return to form, Robert needs to turn back into the Nintendo stat machine he looks like when healthy, TA needs to get back to setting the tone, Vaughn needs to take a giant step forward at his natural position, Eloy needs to mash 35-40. If that all happens, Colas can just be in the mix with adjusting to the majors
