Why do I get the sense that this is who this team really is - better than 7 or 8 AL teams, significantly worse than the top 5 or 6 AL teams. For whatever reason, we own the Tigers regardless of whether or not we are better or worse team. We beat the Rays, who should be improved but are still not an 80 win team yet. I still don't think we are better than the Yankees, Red Sox, Tigers, Tribe, Mariners or Angels.

QUOTE (Fotop @ Apr 22, 2008 -> 09:01 PM) Man, it would have been nice to have someone to PH for Uribe...too bad our bench options in that situation weren't much better. sure about that? -
WHY THE f*** IS JIM THOME EVER HITTING AGAINST A LHP LATE IN THE GAME????? .209 VS LHP SINCE 2005. ANY RIGHT HANDER WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER IN THE EIGHTH AS SOON AS THEY BROUGHT EMBREE IN I'M SO f***ING PISSED RIGHT NOW

Contreras vs. Robertson (BORING!)

QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 11:59 AM) I agree....time to move on and quit over-reacting on Juanny's D How soon people forget the catch by Uribe in the WS 2005 I'm sorry, was that catch made at second base or something? Playing great shortstop defensively does not equal playing great defense at any other infield position. Why don't we ask Alex Rodriguez how easy it is to transition from shortstop to another infield position? How the hell this organization got into this position is beyond me. A streaky .230ish hitter with SOME pop playing out of position is a liability in almost every respect compared to many other alternatives. -

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 11:52 AM) Who do the White Sox have that is better defensive at second than Uribe? Exactly. How the f*** did we get into this situation in the first place? Richar was going to be a question mark no matter what, and Uribe at 2b is the backup plan? f***ed. -

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 11:29 AM) Juan Uribe is the best 2B currently on the 40 man roster. Even though I hate him I can't deny that he probably should be playing close to everyday until Richar is healthy. I agree. It is still reprehensible that our general manager put us in the situation. -

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 11:25 AM) Who should be playing 2nd? This is not about today, it's about a series of offseason decisions. I don't see how you can't be incensed that we don't have an experienced backup middle-infielder who's not a complete f***ing moron. -

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 11:23 AM) That's some pretty s***ty logic. Are we going to go the next 8 pages and argue this semantically or are we going to agree that we should be playing a different second baseman. -

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 11:21 AM) Juan can play second find, he is just a moron and has 0 baseball IQ. Clearly he CANNOT play second fine. -

You would think that playing Jose Valentin in Center Field would've taught Kenny Williams a thing or two about playing someone out of position, but here we are 6 years later doing the same f***ing thing. Jesus f***ing christ, just shoot me now. -
Someone should explain to KW the economic concept called the "sunk cost fallacy". If you buy a movie ticket and want to walk out, but "feel obligated" to stay because you paid for it, you are falling into this trap staying or leaving does not get you the money back There is value in player development. If Toby Hall is a sunk (ie unrecoverable) cost, eat the money and use your resources as well as possible. Either way, you've paid the millions of dollars. Might as well buy into the future.

so, what's the scoop on this guy? http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/cs-08...1,1333999.story

QUOTE(kman @ Feb 22, 2008 -> 10:55 AM) Cause he knew you bought his 27 jersey and he had to change it. You're close. A buddy of mine still owes me a Fields jersey on a bet made in the 06 season and he's finally ponying up for it and asked me which number I wanted
-
This is probably way old news, but I noticed that he's no 22 now, not 27. Why the change?

QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 11:37 AM) I don't understand this "if our pitching can return to 2005 form" argument. This is akin to saying "well, if we could just get career years out of four starters and most of the bullpen at the same time again, we'd be alright" ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

There is literally no debate - I want any other player - major or minor league - who is capable of playing left field next year and taking pitches. Podsednik is worse than any other major leaguers and a good deal of minor leaguers playing his position, taking pitches, and being a baseball player in general. Why do people thinki that anyone except for Roberts, Figgins, Crawford and a couple of others would be unacceptable. s***, give me ANYONE. ANYONE but Podsednik. I'd take a one-legged Frank Thomas in the one-hole and take my chances in the field. Who is with me? ANYONE BUT PODSEDNIK.

What was the quote from the beginning of the year? "Brian could hit .230 and it wouldn't matter as long as he plays defense" or something along those lines? When the f*** did those expectations change? Somehow I don't think BA's hitting is at the top or even near the top of the list of the reasons why this team missed the postseason. The team underperformed because of inconsistent pitching, both starting and relief. If Anderson was liked in the clubhouse, this would've all been written off by Ozzie and Kenny as "rookie year" and "not the reason the team missed the playoffs". There's clearly a rift, and it's clearly personal not professional. Everyone knew that when Ozzie said in late August that Anderson wasn't doing anything offensively (he was on fire at the time).
