QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 07:36 PM) Mixed in with some homers who love to pretend everything is just great, regardless of all evidence. we can still win this f***ing game
-
the bottom line is that we are still in this game, down 3-1 in the fifth inning and we're discussing offseason surgery for Freddy. WTF? How about "let's get at least one back this inning"
-
can we rename this forum "knee jerk reactions"

WHY THE f*** DO YOU RUN THERE
-
I think I'm finally starting to get worried
-
what about that one hot dog guy on the first level 3rd base side who you can hear in every telecast yell "HOT DOG" in that high pitched shrill
-
Man Soo is always seemingly the center of any divisional/playoff clinching celebration....every time I see a group photo he's in the middle of the picture

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 2, 2006 -> 07:02 PM) You can. I sure as hell won't. We're not paying Garland 8 million to give up 1 run every inning pitched during starts. I guess I should've put that one in green
-
As long as he keeps it to one run per inning pitched I suppose I should be happy

I would think that a decent right handed relief pitcher would not be that hard to acquire at the deadline, no? Also, is Hermanson still a possibility? -

Fine, Politte doesn't quite have it, but I don't think that's 100% of the problem. Are we going to spend three pages nitpicking about a right handed relief pitcher or are we going to examine other issues as well? -

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 2, 2006 -> 09:37 AM) Wait, have you seen Politte pitch at all this year? He's been absolutely horrid, I'm not sure if he's even managed to strand an inherited runner all year. His numbers are trending downward since a really bad april. -
Prior to this roadtrip, Sox had gone 30-11 in their previous 41 games without even playing their best ball. THIRTY AND ELEVEN. That's a better 41 game clip than think the Sox have ever posted in recent memory. They sure as hell didn't do that last year. 2-5 is nothing to panic about whatsoever. Occasionally teams get beaten by divisional rivals on the road 3/4. Ask Cleveland about some fun times they had in KC earlier this year. Last year the Sox lost SEVEN IN A ROW and eight of nine in mid august. Some perspective, people. This team is still on pace to win 100 games for christ's sake! Yes, the starting pitching, defense, and bullpen seem to be not as good this year thus far. We can fix most of these problems, in my opinion. DEFENSE Leave Anderson in center, no matter what the f*** his batting average is. I don't care if he hits .100. We are NOT having a problem scoring runs whatsoever! We absolutely need his defense. Ozuna and Mackowiak are pinch hitters/runners. Uribe will straighten his problems out. Dye and Pods have never been spectacular defenders, but what you are seeing right now is just a case of when it rains, it pours. BULLPEN Okay, Jenks appears to be just fine generally. Cotts' ERA and WHIP are now down to very respectable numbers, and will continue to fall. Thorton had an amazing May and outside of last night, appears to be the real deal. Politte has respectable numbers. So we have a closer and three set up guys. Obviously this Nelson thing did not work. Fine, we tried something, it didn't work. Obviously McCarthy is not really that comfortable in this role some of the time, but he has shown flashes of brilliance. He is still a kid and needs a long leash. I'll take my chances with Starter/Thorton/Politte/Cotts/Jenks against anyone any day of the week, and probably win 3/5 of those games on average. So what if some relievers had a s***ty night. It happens. STARTING PITCHING Jose didn't have it last night. Fine. The guy has had it for f***ing SIX STRAIGHT MONTHS, give him a break! Buehrle has been up and down but he seems to be generally moving in the right direction. Freddy is freddy. Not too far off of career numbers. Javy has been well more than we ever could have hoped for. The problem has been Garland, Garland, and more Garland. I'm not all that concerned. Even if the guy has a total busto year he will still win 10 games because of this offense. He has the capability to be dominant at times, and I expect no less than 4-5 more quality starts from him. The only thing I'm really worried about is injuries. We are still a 100 win team EASILY, in my opinion.

Hitting is not really the problem this year. Yes, we got shut out last night, but for every game the offense has cost us this season I can find three we blew on defense. We need Anderson in center. End of story. Mackowiak and Ozuna are nice bench players.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ May 30, 2006 -> 06:30 PM) Mister Anderson I'm seeing some improvement in his swing...in no time at all I'm sure he'll be grounding out to the shortstop
-
is Hawk crazy? "Our bullpen is not near where it was at this point last year..." No, Hawk, we don't have Vizcaino giving up games once a week, we don't have Marte's unpredictable outings.... I think people forget that our bullpen was a bit of a mess in May last year...
-
ground ball would be fantastic here
-
how is that ever the right play
-
why isn't pablo stealing third with one out?
-
is there some way we can "hide" pablo in center

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ May 24, 2006 -> 08:22 PM) I'm assuming he's parodying Gerald Ford, with the West Coast Teams as Richard Nixon and the "over" as our losing tendencies against them. At least that's what I think he means.

our long regional nightmare is over
-
seriously, some reporter better f***ing get on ozzie's case about why anderson ISN'T IN THE f***ING GAME AS A LATE INNING DEFENSIVE REPLACEMENT EVER
-
outdrawing the cubs is an impossibility. The Cubs have already sold all their tickets, we'd have to average 39k a game to come close, and the park capacity is about that. We might come within 4,000 per game, but that's about as close as we'll get.
