  1. QUOTE(HSC's Biggest Fan @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 11:59 AM) I think my post explained why we won't get him and why the Cinninnati ownership would've blocked the deal. I did not see this here and thought it was insightful as to why we did not get him. Sorry if I wasted your precious time from railing against someone. I was responding the the post directly before mine.
  2. Timo's batting 3rd, with Blum cleaning up. They dropped Konerko to ninth.
  3. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 12:30 PM) besides the game threads, how many of the threads that you start do you think are optimistic? Here's the way I board....when the team is doing well, kicking ass, and taking names I don't really say a lot. Yesterday I did put up a thread that asked you to predict the final records of the big three starters, and I think my predictions were on the optimistic side of things. When the team stinks, I feel the need to vent more. So I do it here. That's what the place is here for, right?
  4. who the hell is panicking? our lineup stinks and we need to remedy it. In the other thread I wrote "I think this team has a chance to go deep in the postseason" seriously, Soxfan, wtf?
  5. The one where you mentioned a 4th thread? This is ridiculous. Probably over 40% of my posts are rooting the team on during the game threads.
  6. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 12:19 PM) Negative Threads by Greg Hibbard: wow, who thought it was that bad postgame whining about umpiring Isnt Joe Crede just Jose Valentin There are a fw other borderline threads like the one about the Yankees and the Sox having like the same record since like May 13th... Wow, you found three threads I composed with negative overtones. Yes, that's definitely representative of everything I've ever posted at Soxtalk.
  7. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 12:10 PM) Facts, schmacts.... Uribes Sac Fly wasn't a RBI last night? s***! The ESPN splits didn't include last night's game and they just added those stats in....updated stats coming.
  8. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 12:09 PM) Until we hit a rough spot in the season. Then the optimism seemed to diminish. I was fine through our rough spot in May when Texas was manhandling us. This is totally different.
  9. Nah, I'll stick around. If people actually bothered to do a search on my posts, they would see that I've been pretty damn optimistic for most of this season.
  10. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 12:05 PM) August 9th. 9! THE 9TH OF MOTHERCUKING AUGUST!!!! How about we wait until the 30th or th 31st to decide how we played this month? I know, Im crazy right? Yes, you are crazy.
  11. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 12:02 PM) How about, you only post if you have something bad to say about the team? That's a pretty true statement, maybe you like not be happy with the team. Ever since they started scuffling seems like you've been starting an aweful lot more topics and the great majority of them have been negative. You know usually when people have a problem with me, I tell them to ignore my threads. However, you're doing such a good job bumping this one, I'm gonna let it go.
  12. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 11:58 AM) Wow, another negative thread from "Greg Hibbard", why am I not surprised? 11 of your last 15 topics have been negative. You'd think we were 13.5 Games back instead of 13.5 games up. 11 of our last 15 games have been negative. There you go.
  13. August batting averages BA/OBP/HR/RBI (In Podsednik's case it's stolen bases and runs instead of home runs and rbis) Podsednik .138/.167/2/2 Iguchi .259/.333/1/2 Dye .222/.329/0/1 Crede .130/.167/1/1 Uribe .133/.278/0/0 Perez .200/.333/0/1 whoa....this is a serious funk we are in. I know it's only 8 games, but sheesh...that's a bad eight games. Pierzynski, Rowand and Konerko are all hitting the cover off the ball in August, but the rest of the team is seriously awful right now. Everett was hitting .286 in August when he went down... I guess the good news is that even with this funk we are 4-4 in August....
  14. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 11:04 AM) So what has changed since the beginning of the year? the club is the same, functions the same, plays the same. Whats different? No Frank Thomas = No Bench Depth. That's what's changed. Before Frank was out for the year, the feeling was that Everett was a capable major league bat off the bench who could play a little outfield too. Now we don't have that for the remainder of the year.
  15. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 10:39 AM) Well, look out, because though every team in the world owns him, Shawn Chacon is pitching tonight. Power righty whom the Sox haven't seen? It's going to be a long night... It's gonna be a long night because Contreras is facing his old squad who'll want some payback...
  16. My point is that we should not be worrying about getting every close call (pods at first) or having the umps confer about an unusual ruling (a-rod). If we are an elite team we should be KICKING THE s*** OUT OF MEDIOCRE TEAMS LIKE THE YANKEES!
  17. can somebody sticky the reasons why Griffey is not coming to the Sox so that we don't have to keep explaining it?
  18. [rant] Did anyone hear the postgame last night on ESPN1000? The phones were lit up with people wanting to b**** about Freming and Wendelstat and how we had "no chance" to win on Wednesday because Freming was calling balls and strikes. They were also going on and on that the Sox can only score so many runs per game the way this team is built. I wanted to punch the f***ing radio! This line of reasoning is preposterous. I was appalled that people are willing to accept what's happening at the plate from the Sox and blame the umps for bad calls when we don't execute anyway. I know most people here aren't accepting it, but what about the GM and the Coach? Are they on board with this reasoning that the team is built a certain way and everything should fall on the shoulders of the pitching staff and the umps while .240 and .227 hitters just get a free pass day in and day out? This is absurd. I really think we have a chance to go deep in the postseason, but the fact of the matter is that without a healthy Thomas, we have zero bench depth offensively and a questionable everyday lineup at best. Now that Podsednik is creeping back down to his career average and the rest of the team seems to be settling back in to a low-.260/high .250 team average, I'm ready to say that if we don't get offensive help, we will be hard pressed to win a playoff series against any team. Imagine if anyone else were to get injured! If we don't make a move and get a BIG bat, I feel we'll be out quickly in the playoffs...first round for sure...and this is not the f***ing umps fault! Yes, Wendelstat and Freming are terrible. Yes, they may have it "in" for the Sox. We shouldn't be relying on scoring 2-3 runs a night and relying on miraculous pitching to make it hold up! Lately we have been making schlubs like the entire Toronto staff and Joel Pineiro look like Cy Freaking Young! [/rant]
  19. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 09:28 AM) Timo not batting ever.
  20. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 04:13 PM) His ERA since the start of June is 1.73. His ERA since the start of July is 1.05. His ERA since the all-star break is 0.93. I said it before and I'll say it again....7/27/05 against KC.
  21. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 03:35 PM) If the Sox choke they won't have to. The right combo of their wins and our losses and we're the laughing stock... again. Assuming the mediocre Indians play 6 over .500 (I think 28-22 is the very top of what they can do, but whatever), The Sox would have to lose 34 of their last 50 games. I can't think of a stretch the Sox have had in the past ten years (other than possibly august of 99) where they have been that bad over that many games.
  22. Yes, I realize that the 1995 angels blowing an 11 game lead was in a three division format but Seattle was one of the best teams in the AL that year and the 2005 Indians aren't even the 4th best team in the AL...
