  1. In terms of qualified plate appearances on ESPN.com's mlb stats page, Juan Uribe is 87th out of 87 players in AL OBP. 86th (Aaron Boone) has an OBP of .284.
  2. a .272 OBA for a major leaguer is inexcusably bad.
  3. Uribe has a BA of .236 and an OBP of .272....and 11 errors at shortstop, 7th most in the league. Since he's not necessarily stellar defensively, don't you guys think it's time for Pablo to see more tick at SS? Is Uribe's power potential that much more vital over Pablo's speed?
  4. QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 09:23 AM) My guess is that we stand pat. If that happens, that really sucks.
  5. QUOTE(Wong & Owens @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:28 AM) Wasn't Foulke one of the guys we got in the Alvarez-Hernandez deal? If so, he's hardly a nobody: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/multimedi.../content.9.html Bob Howry, Keith Foulke, Mike Caruso and Lorenzo Barcelo were all part of that deal, and all four spent a season + at the ML level and one's an allstar and another (Howry) is still in the majors eight years later. The other two, Ken Vining and Brian Manning, never made it.
  6. QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 10:10 AM) Two games against Cleveland are all I see scheduled in Octoer. I'm talking about the playoffs
  7. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 09:57 AM) This team also hasn't had an off day since the AS break until today. All of our pitchers have been on 4 days rest for quite some time...some less (buehrle) with the AS Game. I think the extra day of rest will do these guys, especially on the mound, some good. At least I hope so. There have been a couple times this season where I've been worried that we were going into a slump, that we were just treading water, that we'd been stuck at x games over .500 for what seemed like forever, and every time I have started thinking that, this team fired off another 8 game winning streak. I think they know they looked bad in their last few series, and hopefully some of them will start to pick it up. There was really only one other comparable poor stretch this season, and it's when we went 6-8 from May 14th-May 29th. The difference is that that stretch was maybe one of the toughest all season. It was the last two games against Baltimore when they were still in first, Texas at home when they were at or near first, at the Cubs, at the first place Angels, and then at Texas when they AGAIN took the division lead (and NOBODY was beating them). The stretch now? We lost 2/3 against 4th place detroit? Lose 2/3 at 5th place KC? It's not comparable, sorry. Those two in particular are inexcusable, as is giving away a game vs. Boston who is playing poorly right now. It's one thing to run up against teams that are buzzsawing through the entire league, but it's quite another to be playing poorly and losing to teams that have no business being competitive against the Sox. I hope you're right about them rattling off another big winning streak, but honestly, with the way this team is playing right now, with the injury to big Frank and the dog days and brutal August schedule approaching, I don't see it happening.
  8. Thomas might be done for this season. If he is, we need another slugger/obp guy.
  9. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 08:53 AM) It's July, not September. We're playing like crap right now and we've still managed an above .500 month thus far. Unfortunately every team goes through a tough stretch and right now this is ours. I hear you, but next month is BRUTAL schedule-wise, and I'm afraid we'll be under .500 and people will say "well, that was just a tough month on the schedule" October is a pretty tough month on the schedule too, and one that we can't afford to be under .500 in...
  10. I think these last three weeks have proven that this team CANNOT stand pat. We need to address several things.
  11. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 08:43 AM) Remember when everyone was fawning over Gload and talking about how we had to get him up here? Some of us argued that he wouldn't make that much of a difference because he wouldn't be playing very often, and that could be a problem? Well this is Gload after the game yesterday. I know he is pissed, but I don't like seeing guys who are the 26th man on a 25 man roster complain about playing time. If it wasn't for Frank's injury, he wouldn't be here in the first place. He is lucky to be on this team. It is his job as a bench player to stay fresh by taking grounders in BP if that's what it takes to keep him sharp. But him playing 1B only every couple of weeks is what we need him to do. Konerko is going to be the everyday starter, and if Gload can't handle what we ask of him, by the words out of his very own mouth, then we need to find someone who can. I saw that quote too, and my initial reaction was the same...but then I thought I was taking it out of context. I now think it was more of a "christ, they put me in once every two weeks and I screw up the one time I'm in....I suck"
  12. 12-11 in July... treading water? Isn't this exactly what happened in the second half of 2000? If we lose this Baltimore series we could be just .500 for July...or worse, if we get swept we'd be under .500 And July wasn't even a tough month....
  13. I'm officially volunteering to kidnap vizcaino and drive his ass to a remote nebraskan cornfield and leave him tied to a tractor
  14. why have your biggest pull hitter and worst runner hit in this spot? Even though he's IBB'd it's still a questionable play...
  15. JUST PLUNK SWEENEY NEXT TIME SEND A f***ING MESSAGE, OZZIE.
  16. seriously, sweeney better be diving out of the box after the first pitch to him in the next at bat.
  17. Seriously, why do the sox keep pitching to sweeney. 1 man on, two men on, tying run, winning run, I don't care. PLUNK him. He is the only proven ML threat in that whole lineup. If Berroa or Stairs beat you, so be it. Please never let him beat us again. I'm so sick of his ass hitting like .800 vs. the Sox in the past several years.
  18. how the f*** do you not plunk sweeney every time he's in the box. He is the only major league threat in that lineup.
  19. I grew to accept Wills, but never liked him. His Cubs-bashing was embarrassing, and his schlocky "gonna suck down a miller lite before hopping in my dodge ______ from South Oak Dodge" was horrible too. Anybody is better, but Dolgin ain't good, that's for sure.
  20. I'm not looking for a fight. I just didn't appreciate someone saying I was essentially the worst thread maker in history without adding anything in terms of content to the discussion. Moving on...
  21. You regulars are seriously more anal about thread space, organization and posting style than possibly any other bulletin board in the history of the universe. I understand many of you have a certain way of doing things. When I have a thought, sometimes I put up a new thread before sifting through every single post in every thread on the first page. To me, a thread is no big deal. It's just a thread. If people don't like it, I expect em to ignore it. To some of you, it seems a new thread must be of a certain standard to be worthy of being in this forum. To my way of thinking, that's just not what boarding is about. On any topic.
