What to do with the abreu/vaughn/sheets/burger logjam in 2022?
Greg Hibbard replied to Dominikk85's topic in Pale Hose Talk
But every team plays bad teams, in and out of their own division. It’s ridiculous to take those wins out and run some hypothetical scenario. Do you think the Red Sox win 90 games only playing the 9 best teams? Of course not. They even beat a team in the ALDS that they struggled against during the regular season to be in the ALCS and in a position to win. The White Sox certainly need to improve where they can, but they aren’t a bad team because they can beat really bad teams. -
RON IN 2019: Thinking of cheering for the Cubs next year
Greg Hibbard replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yeah, but why allow a dude who obviously hates the white sox and is simply here to troll real fans continue to be here? It’s one thing to have some dude be “weird” sometimes. This dude is a troll. Again, What’s the point of moderators? -
RON IN 2019: Thinking of cheering for the Cubs next year

Ban him. This has gone way too far. The troll posts about Abreu year after year after year, and now a troll post about becoming a Cubs fan? This is so dumb. If moderators sit by and continue to tolerate this behavior year after year I seriously don’t know what the actual point of having moderators is. He’s laughing at everyone on this site, and pissing all over Sox fans with every post. -
I still think Eloy has the most value and the jury is way out on him. Similar to your assessment of Vaughn, I think he hit a wall after coming back from the injury. I just think there was a giant hangover effect, and despite Eloy's abysmal end of the year, he's still a 3+ WAR player per season already, despite awful defense. He is still averaging close to 40 homers per 162 and that's insanely valuable to a team that doesn't hit homers. Again, as we saw with Moncada and Anderson, it's dangerous to conclude definitive value after less than 2 full seasons of plate appearances. Eloy has about 1.5 seasons total of plate appearances so far.

To all of those who want to write off Vaughn after a bad last 22 games (because that's what it was - he had a .797 OPS as of August 19th) - Do you remember Moncada and Anderson took several hundred at bats to round into major league caliber hitters? Andrew Vaughn was amazing in 2021 all things considered. He was asked to play defense at three positions he'd never played and handled the bat just fine for a rookie without any minor league experience. He will be great in a couple years.

ALDS Game 4 - HOU @ CWS - 1:07 pm CDT
Greg Hibbard replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in 2021 Season in Review
Sox record against AL central - 44-32 (.579) Sox record outside of AL central 49-37 (.569) So is it really that we "rolled over" a bad division? -
If I'm another team, why wouldn't I want Kimbrel to remain on the Sox, where he hurts my opponent more than he would potentially help me? I cut bait. I know it's not financially the best decision, but my logic is that he won't get $16 mil on the open market and what I would get in return is not worth wasting time with. Use the $16 mil on a GOOD FA.

I guess I would just say I had nothing but an empty feeling about the 2000 and 2008 post mordems. I knew 2000 was a fluke and 2008 was probably not enough. I simply don’t have that feeling about 2021 because it’s the beginning of a very good window for our team.
-
The 2021 White Sox couldn’t beat the 2021 Astros. Just like the 1990 bulls couldn’t beat the 1990 pistons.
-
Ok, but what about the QO? What if they get him back? What if Lopez turns into a quality fifth starter after all? Tons of variables in play and the Sox have a ton of depth. I just can’t be doom and gloom on the team when we have this much talent on our roster that is young and under control.
-
I get it. You don’t think our young players will improve. I do.
-
This. Exactly this. The Sox sucked at Minute Maid and sucked vs the Yanks. We did fine against the Red Sox and Rays and might have been able to beat either of them in a full series. Yeah, but meanwhile …meatball pessimists want to show up to 35th and shields with pitchforks and torches for this team. It’s baffling. This organization generally has gotten this rebuild right and have been moving in the right direction for three seasons. I think we will look back at this season as a turning point. I truly think Eloy and Vaughn and Moncada will be better next season and Robert is going to be MVP caliber. Fuck Cesar on his way out of town, let’s sign a real second baseman, QO rodon, and let’s avoid injuries next year. We can improve without a lot of moves.
-
From August 1 to the end of the season the Sox had a .561 winning percentage. I don’t get why people think we had a shitty second half. We had a shitty second half of July.
-
Jimenez has gotten much better at LF this year, and Vaughn has shown he can play right and he’s your first baseman of the future. Yes Vaughn can play left, but if Jimenez can play there just fine now, I don’t have an issue.
-
You said the magic word - immature. So many of these players still need to mature. I feel as though Cease, Jimenez, Robert, even Moncada still have their best years ahead of them and their process of maturing will make them better next year. Plus Robert and Jimenez clearly had aftereffects of their injuries that they were navigating.
-
Just terrible takes in this thread. Sox won 93 games despite 4 major injuries that cost us a few games. They got outpitched, outhit, and outdefended by the class of the AL and somehow they’re garbage? Nah. They’re still the third best team in the AL, and IMO would have beaten the crap out of the wildcard but drew the absolute worst matchup in Houston and got flat out exploited. Stop acting like emotional children, put your big boy pants on, and grow up. We lost. We will be back next year and better.

ALDS Game 2 - Chicago @ Houston - 1:07pm CDT

JFC can someone please account for what RF that Hahn would have acquired would have won game 1? Or today’s game? pitching lost us both games. The Sox have a chance to win two games at home - where they play much much better btw - and if they do that anyone can win one game. -

Ok - what deadline acquisition would have solved McCullers yesterday or prevented Lance Lynn from coughing up those runs? what deadline acquisition would have stopped Giolito from walking guys today? maybe - just maybe - and I know this is stretch - maybe the other team just fucking beat us. -

Its extraordinarily amusing to watch people who think their emotional knee jerk reaction in a game thread is some sort of sage wisdom regarding what should happen immediately in a process that takes years and millions of dollars. maybe your hot take should be limited to “this sucks” or “I’m frustrated”‘ instead of “burn the entire organization down” This team was ahead of schedule last year and this year, outperformed their injuries, and are simply getting beat by 1 of the two best teams in the AL. have some goddammed perspective for fucks sake -

What a waste -
I would rather try to move Burger to second than move Yoan back.

Moncada has been all over the map. He’s only had 50 PAs this entire season batting 6th.
