GT Chicago vs Chicago, 6/19/19, 7:05 CT

Haha no matter what happens in this game it was very entertaining to watch Schwarber flop around in the corner just now ? -
RF options are bleak...any other ideas?

Why is it bizarre? Tilson and Cordell were the right move at the time, but are what we thought they were. Neither were particularly highly touted and both are looking like replacement pieces. I've liked the contributions from both, but after the initial burst, pitchers made the adjustment. It's time to see what else we might have. -

Would be really funny if in addition to dominating Lucas hits a home run or something -

Accurate. Has a big role and was supposed to be a main character but is just too ridiculously bad to pass muster. -

I forgot about Jon Jay: The Phantom Menace Like the movie, he's definitely the worst and there's no plot or hero worth rooting for -
After giving extended looks to Cordell and Tilson, it appears neither is particularly Major League Caliber. Cordell fell off to .220 BA and .611 OPS in May, and is having a Palka-like June with zero power and a .214 OPS. Tilson had a decent May, but has fallen off the last few games. Do we give these two more time? Option one for Palka? Think about calling anyone else up? Could Robert be here in September?? What's the best thing to do here?

A fair and balanced soliloquy about Jose Abreu, by ron
Greg Hibbard replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He is 66th out of 157th qualified over at Fangraphs in wRC+. That’s not useless, IMO. I think the mantra we have gotten used to in evaluating players like Jose in this era is looking at how bad they are defensively and saying that they gotta somehow be completely elite offensively to offset that; ie if Jose is not a 4-6 WAR player offsetting the defensive liabilities, he’s “bad”. However, there are a ton of players in exactly his boat that I don’t think are bad. And, really, is the defensive component offsetting it that much? ”Bad defense” is also incredibly tough to quantify the impact of. Certain errors are utterly meaningless, whereas other errors open the door to runs or even losses, but also if we look at fangraphs team defensive metric stats, a lot of them make zero sense. Certain teams make up for bad range with one player with excellent range from another, ie Luis Robert might make Eloy Jimenez more passable defensively. The Twins are one of the worst defensively rated teams and yet they have that sterling record. Conversely, the Diamondbacks have the best rating in terms of team defense but they’re not much better than our Sox in the standings. jose is a 1.2 fWAR player today. If he ends up being a 3 WAR player (not that much of a tear to go on and his BABIP is still below career, and it’s not even hot out yet) I just think what you have is still a solid reliable option for 2 more years. I think is floor is certainly still heigher than a player like Yonder “Look Out Below” Alonso. -

It doesn’t take a genius to know that the Cubs regular rotation goes a certain way, but I think we have proven that Ricky is dumb as rocks and lacks vision beyond his constructing his myopic lineups to dazzle has-been kissasses as to how “old-school” he is. Moncada should probably sit out until he feels fine for a week. Maybe until after the break. -
Is it possible his projected average still improves as he gets older/better? Is there a chance he could become a .250 hitter?

Colome remains with White Sox, who always had ample interest in him
Greg Hibbard replied to Sockin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Madrigal and Robert have a lot more to do with what I would like to see done with Colome. If both continue to pound the ball at AA and make the jump to a hitter-Friendly AAA we should see both by post Super 2 next year and I think that turns us into a 2020 contender. In that case I keep Colome. -
Looking forward to Collins getting a shot. It is interesting that Machado is having a somewhat disappointing season thus far, even adjusting for park factor. Might be we dodged a bullet on that one. My biggest problem with that entire fiasco was the approach, which ultimately made the Sox just look cheap and half-assed. I would have preferred they either ponied up $300M right away or said “nah we’re good”

A fair and balanced soliloquy about Jose Abreu, by ron
Greg Hibbard replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Since this thread went up, Jose is 10/17 with 2 doubles and a homer but I’m sure it’s extraordinarily concerning to Ron that he hasn’t been able to elevate his pathetic .588 batting average to a higher obp with any walks over that timeframe -

Just wanted to say that Jose is #1 in all of MLB with 37 barrels this season, and is #3 in all of MLB in barrels per plate appearance. -
What options does Renteria have with Yonder Alonso?

The mound was lowered 5 inches in 1968. It was an extraordinarily significant change. -

I don't understand how his performance has been bad at any point in his career. His seasonal WARs: 5.8, 3.8, 2.7, 4.8 for first four complete seasons, and his next year he had 1.7 in a partial season that he was injured. He's getting killed on BABIP this season but is still crushing the ball in terms of XBH. I just can't really be negative about Abreu. -

I mean, if the argument is that he's not a leader in cumulative statistics like doubles home runs, etc. because guys like Thomas and Konerko played 15 seasons with the Sox while he's played 5 and a half, I guess I can't argue that. -

He's 9th all time in OPS or is that not a good metric for evaluating offense, in your opinion
