  1. Moncada has an OPS that is 150 points lower during day games. Just sayin'. Weird.
  2. Maybe we can end up with a better pick after all...
  3. At least the slaughter rule is almost in effect
  4. James “Big Inning” Shields living up to his 2016 reputation
  5. Great game all around with a ton of positives
  6. It's really fascinating that he's been so hot when he's been healthy, when all of us thought a huge regression was in store considering his 2017 BABIP. Is there a chance that his career numbers are now good enough for us to consider a long term contract? I just don't know if a .752 career OPS is high enough for a corner outfielder, but if we consider his last two years to be more indicative of his next 5... Would something like 5 years, 40-55 million a year make sense? I have no idea what average salaries for outfielders are these days.
  7. If Moncada finishes the year at .250/.320/.430/.750 and with 35 2B, 9 3B and 23 HR I don't know how anyone could call that disappointing for a first full season. If his trend is mostly real, he's basically on pace for that.
  8. I have also sat through some other terrible games. I went to opening day in 1991 and attempted to rationalize a very poorly conceived ballpark while the Tigers thrashed us 16-0. In the same era, I watched Dan Pasqua break up a David Cone no-hitter in the 8th inning with a meaningless double, down like 8-0. I believe it was raining and cold most of that game. I'm saying this was the worst game in the WORST SEASON. I can't imagine it getting worse than this right now.
  9. Of course they are. But I'm saying Leury and Yolmer are two of the BEST guys on this team right now. In the last 28 days the TEAM has a sub .700 OPS and a 6+ ERA.
  10. Last night. I realized it as I sat there watching Abreu take terrible swing after terrible swing in one of the final innings, clearly deep in the worst 37-game slump of his career with no clear end in sight. ...as I tried to root for Palka, Tilson, and a host of other filler guys do anything resembling exciting. ...as I realized two of the best guys on the field wearing a Sox uni last night were probably Yolmer Sanchez and Leury Garcia, two guys who might not make it onto the roster of half of the MLB clubs. As I realized the most exciting thing that happened outside of that Tim Anderson double was an outfield assist that prevented the Cardinals from actually plating 15 or 16 runs in regulation instead of 14. ...as I watched the White Sox fall to 31 games below .500 in early July for the first time since? Ever? I am totally onboard with this rebuild, but last night was really really rough, especially in person. There must have been 2/3rds Cardinals fans in the ballpark. BTW I never really mind Cards games as usually the vibe is congenial and their fans are typically pretty well behaved in our ballpark.
  11. Can we please stop batting Moncada right handed in any situation
  12. Again, I really don't want some "dry/boring" broadcast. IMO, Hawk and Wimpy were great together because they complimented one another. Hawk's over-the-top style didn't completely overshadow the broadcast at that time because Paciorek knew how and when to fill in the rest of the broadcast. It worked. It was not by the numbers. Similarly, I feel Pat Hughes and Ron Coomer aren't some dry/boring broadcast, they have a genuinely organic rapport and they play off of each other in ways that ameliorate the overall broadcast. I'm not a fan of the Cubs but because I listen to the score for their shows, often the Cubs will be on for a few minutes and I'll catch some of the broadcast. I always know exactly what's going on within 2 minutes of tuning in.
  13. Come on man, this is a strawman. I'm not really interested in some milquetoast radio broadcast either I tune into the radio broadcast to have the action described to me and to get the gist of what's going on in the game. Often times I'm sitting in my car for 5-10 minutes wondering when I'm going to even get a score while they jab at each other about some minor detail of a previous play.
  14. I went through the announcing thread, and it's mostly about Hawk and Jason Benetti. I really need to vent about this. These days, I find our radio broadcast absolutely EXCRUCIATING to listen to. Every time I tune in, I feel like I'm listening to a White Sox game through the awful filter of two men constantly trying to 1-up each other in some stupid game that is for no one's benefit. My read is that they just have bad chemistry between them, but it oozes out of the airwaves. I simply don't get this. It doesn't make for an enjoyable broadcast, it's not technically good, and I can never get a score or an idea of what's going on except their inane competition about whether something was a good play or not, whether it was a hit or an error, who was right last week about some stupid thing, etc. Does anyone else feel this way? I wish we could do better.
  15. I think it's also worth pointing out that his ISO over the last 28 days is still not horrible given his .165 BA over that same time.
  16. Soxfan is right, but to be fair, there really is not a chance Yoan Moncada will be out of the league in 5 years unless he suffers a horrific career-ending injury. The dude is in a really bad slump and still has 41 XBH and 10sb and 56bb in 523 ML PAs I think at worst he'll be an above average MLer
  17. I guess I wonder if people would have the same reaction if Moncada's career line was for just one complete rookie season from April to September.
  18. Right now it really is his K rate that is the problem, and I agree it's his looking-at-third-strike tendency that needs to be vastly improved upon I think people are largely ignoring the fact that years of service rookie/non-rookie/number of PA's aside, the kid is still just barely 23. It could be he hits his stride at 24-25.
  19. The glaring difference is that Cano had a .232 BABIP that month whereas Moncada has a .324 BABIP this year with a .221 avg.
  20. Yeah I'm not making any conclusions until after 1200 PAs.
  21. How does a guy with wheels this slow have three triples in 30 AB? ?
  22. Ah, I didn't go back enough pages.
