  1. QUOTE(fathom @ May 18, 2007 -> 03:13 PM)
    He's "in-between" because he tried to rebuild during the offseason instead of going for the title one more time with the core group of players.

    I 1000% agree with you.

    It's a "half-rebuilding"

    I feel like a f***ing Astros fan or some s***

  2. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 18, 2007 -> 03:08 PM)
    I doubt we will ever have the "real" Podsednik for the remainder of his Sox career...it's not unlike Cubs' fans hoping for the return of Prior and Wood.

    Right, but we will ADDRESS his roster spot at some point this season, via waiver or via trade

    you can make damn sure of that

    the real problem here is that Kenny is in between, and it's what I was saying all offseason. This team is about good enough to win 84-87 games, which means we have to stand pat with major pieces all year because we are never more than 4-5-6 games out, but never much closer. He acquired just enough pieces to "contend" but not enough to compete with the two or three other juggernauts in this division.

    Still, we're in better shape than I thought we'd be right now given the circumstances.

  3. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ May 18, 2007 -> 03:07 PM)
    Im trying to be patient. But its almost 40 games into the year and we have not one guy hitting over .265 and are four hitter is batting .191

    Its just a little nerve racking.

    "nerve racking", in my humble opinion, is an 8-19 start to the 2001 season coming off of a division title, watching big frank go down with a possible career-ending triceps injury, and watching the biggest offseason acquisition David Wells go nuclear, then go injured

    all in six weeks

    this is the friggin' kiddie pool compared to that s***, people

  4. QUOTE(fathom @ May 18, 2007 -> 03:03 PM)
    I never once used the avatar, thanks! And to say that team didn't choke over the last two months of the regular season is a nice case of hindsight.

    I do think that team choked over the last two months of the season

    to say that anyone could've managed that team during that freefall is utterly revisionist and ludicrous

  5. QUOTE(fathom @ May 18, 2007 -> 02:59 PM)
    No, but we won virtually every close game we had. We probably have more blown saves this year than we did in all of 2005. My grandma could have managed a team well with 3 lights out relievers.

    Is this coming from the same guy who basically invented the "choke" avatar in 2005?

  6. QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 18, 2007 -> 02:52 PM)
    Wow. You guys are totally freaking out.

    Honestly, this site is almost unbearable these days, and I don't understand it at all.

    We keep winning series and some people will never stop being negative about every little thing no matter what the sox do in terms of the big picture.

    Seriously, things like "this team is finished" and "might as well not bother showing up" and "fire kenny and ozzie right now" should be reserved for times when we are:

    a) losing 7 of 10

    B) in 4th or 5th place

    c) losing series

    d) losing a single series this month

    e) losing series

  7. "He would get at bats from Thome"

    ????????????????????

    Help me out here soxtalk, I was under the impression that if you started a game with Pierzynski at C and Hall at DH, that if the catcher goes down and you have to use Hall as a catcher, that your pitcher now has to bat for himself.

    Are we gonna carry three catchers?

  8. Detroit is nowhere near Cleveland and Minnesota, guys. One year does not a rivalry make.

    And actually, I would say Minnesota has got to be our biggest rival because they are the only one of the three teams who were in the old AL west (although back then our biggest rival was Oakland - there's still no team I hate as much as the Athletics).

  9. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 17, 2007 -> 01:22 PM)
    OK, now a nice fly ball here Pablo... That's all I am asking.

    Gametracker is wrong

    1st and 2nd nobody out, pablo is attempting bunt

    just did, now 2nd and 3rd 1 out

    what happened in erstad's at bat was deemed catcher's interference, no at bat.

  10. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ May 13, 2007 -> 03:30 PM)
    There are going to be a lot of these loser threads in the next week, so get used to it. With the Cubs throwing two lefties and Zamboner at us this weekend, we may as well not even show up at Wrigely to save ourselves the embarassment. The only way we win a game this next week is if KW pulls his head out of his ass and decides that some changes might necessary. Maybe he should consider prying his ass cheeks apart and parting with one of out "elite" pitching prospects if it gets us some offense in return. If Sweeney is the best that our minor leagues have to offer, the downslide has only just begun. I know the offense will come around. But to those that say that, I say "Excuses are like ass holes, we all have them, and they all stink."

    overreact much?

  11. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ May 13, 2007 -> 03:05 PM)
    have you actually WATCHED this game?

    Actually, no, I just got back in town a few minutes ago and saw the score

    but I've seen plenty of bad games that the white sox have played over the years and every once in a while they are going to have a game where nothing goes right

  12. QUOTE(fathom @ May 13, 2007 -> 03:05 PM)
    Well, if our starting pitching can have an ERA around 3 all season, there will be a lot of us eating crow. It doesn't matter though....we're barely over .500, and there's two terrific teams in our division. We have to play significantly better than .500 ball in order to have a chance to make the playoffs.

    in my opinion, we never had a shot to go to the playoffs this season with the offseason moves that were made, so maybe that contributes to my current optimism. The division is too tough and we didn't improve enough. However, I do think now we have a chance to stay in the race most of the season and it will be at least exciting this year. I figured we might be 8-9 games back at this point and a couple games under.

  13. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 13, 2007 -> 02:56 PM)
    I feel like I've said the same damn thing all season long. "If we can go five hundred on this road trip here... If we can go five hundred in this next stretch..." When the hell is this team going to make a that puts them above five hundred?

    I don't want an answer to that question.

    this team is over .500

    reading this thread is really depressing. this team is winning series despite its offensive woes, so obviously the sky isn't falling

    I just can't understand so much negativity when the team has a single bad loss after four straight wins
