  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 26, 2011 -> 06:51 PM) That my teacher would say that or that it's factual and that made a mess of things? (I really don't know the Civil War all that well so I don't know if it's right). That it'd be a mess.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 26, 2011 -> 06:37 PM) One of the things my teacher told me was that even though they tried originally to produce uniforms for each side, the uniforms didn't last very long, and usually a unit anywhere near the front would be wearing some mixture of everything, including the other side's uniforms, pretty quick. That's just confusing.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 26, 2011 -> 11:03 AM) Why was your license suspended? Be careful with your newfound license freedom. John Law is always out there. Merry Christmas one and all. I'm at Midway Airport right now, terminal B in case anybody wants to come and punch me for my years on Soxtalk. I can even buy you a meal in the foodcourt.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 25, 2011 -> 02:06 PM) Nothing I enjoy more than a cold beer on a hot Christmas morning. Nice.
  5. I really liked The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, but man did it feel long. It was almost like two movies sewn together.
  6. Dr. Beardface is in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. He has no lines and is there for a grand total of maybe 5 seconds as a passenger on the same plane as Daniel Craig. He's unmistakeable, though.
  7. QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Dec 26, 2011 -> 12:21 PM) Maybe it was the uniforms? It was certainly more fashionable than the drab uniforms of the South.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 24, 2011 -> 12:00 PM) You might well be able to get away with that argument starting in about 20 years, when the people who are just starting right now wind up having their bodies collapse under them. The ones who retired 10 years ago though, I can believe that a lot of them really didn't understand the kind of long term damage they were doing mentally. I'm just saying that they knew it'd have negative effects on their bodies later in life. Understanding that they could be paralyzed and accepting that, but then getting angry about brain damage because they didn't expect it. Sorry, I'm not feeling sorry for them. As I said, they'll probably win their case. It's like me deciding to smoke knowing full well that I could get lung cancer. But then I find out that smoking gave me testicular cancer and being pissed. I knew there were risks to my body and I took it anyway.
  9. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Dec 24, 2011 -> 10:45 AM) http://uk.finance.yahoo.com/news/Man-build...1514084024.html Pretty amazing story and ultra cool. That is f***ing cool. I just hope it's up to code for the sake of his kids.
  10. I'm not sure it matters whether or not they knew the exact repercussions of concussions. For a living (and a damn good paycheck), they played a sport that required them to beat the living s*** out of themselves and others. They had to know that there would be long-lasting effects. That obviously won't hold up in a court of law, but in my mind these guys took a risk they understood.
  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 24, 2011 -> 11:05 AM) This is an oddball question, but I'm trying to buy tickets for my dad as a Christmas gift, but also as a family gift, and I have a soon to be 1-year old nephew. I would like to see the White Sox at Target Field, but have no idea what the hell they do with infants. It may be different between stadiums, but I imagine it's pretty much the same throughout. Anyways, does anyone know the Sox policy on this? I imagine the Twins is the same, but want atleast a little confirmation. It's a little known fact, but the Fun-damentals deck actually has a row of cages, similar to a kennel. You drop off your kid and $20 bucks, they handle the rest.
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 24, 2011 -> 09:24 AM) Glad to see we're doing the "x team will totally regress this year. The division will be terrible, if we can just get to 88 wins..." It was totally predictable though.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 24, 2011 -> 09:41 AM) AAARRRRGHHHHHHH!!! Cooper did say earlier this offseason that he thinks Stewart's long term role is in the bullpen. But even if that's true, it's crazy to start him in the pen this year. Even as a reliever, he'd benefit from starting in AAA and piling up innings, in terms of getting practice on his offspeed stuff. Furthermore, if there's a 10% chance he turns into a successful starter, a starter is so much more valuable than a reliever it's silly to give that away without at least trying. You move him back to the pen for a year, that's it, he's never leaving the pen again. I don't know why this made me laugh as much as it did.
  14. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 24, 2011 -> 01:22 AM) 1. Gordon Gekko 2. Darth Vader 3. Michael Myers 4. The Joker 5. Scar 6. Jafarr 7. T-1000 8. Samuel Norton 9. The Queen 10. Cruella De Vil 11. Jigsaw 12. Captain Hook 13. Sauron 14. Jabba The Hut 15. The Wicked Witch of the West 16. Freddy Kruger 17. Magneto 18. Jason Vorhees 19. Ghostface 20. Two-Face 21. Alonzo Harris 22. Hannibal 23. Emperor Commodus 24. Chucky 25. Edward Rooney 1.) Amon Goeth (Schindler's List) 2.) Gus Fring (Breaking Bad) 3.) King Edward Longshanks (Braveheart) 4.) Little Bill (Unforgiven) 5.) Curley Bill/Johnny Ringo (Tombstone) 6.) Bill Cutting (Gangs Of New York) 7.) Dudley Smith (L.A. Confidential) 8.) Warden Samuel Norton (The Shawshank Redemption) 9.) Captain Hook (Hook) 10.) Juror #3 (12 Angry Men) 11.) The Shark (Jaws) 12.) Hedley Lamarr (Blazing Saddles) 13.) Frank (Once Upon A Time In The West) 14.) Dr. Szell (Marathon Man) 15.) Ozymandias (Watchmen) 16.) Semyon (Eastern Promises) 17.) The Lions (The Ghost And The Darkness) 18.) Tommy De Vito (Goodfellas) 19.) The Joker (The Dark Knight) 20.) Verbal Kint (The Usual Suspects) 21.) John Doe (Se7en) 22.) The Emperor (Star Wars) 23.) Dracula (Bram Stoker's Dracula) 24.) Long John Silver (Treasure Island) 25.) Annie Wilkes (Misery) I still don't believe Longshanks didn't make the list. He was cartoonishly evil in Braveheart.
  15. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Dec 23, 2011 -> 11:24 PM) If you want Quentin you gotta take Rios, otherwise GFY. I hope that's KW stance on the issue. I never heard that acronym, but knew what it meant immediately
  16. I chose Palpatine over Vader, and I stick by it.
  17. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Dec 23, 2011 -> 11:52 AM) Very. Surprised at some of those that were seemingly so significant that I have never heard of Same here. I had to look up a few because I had no idea whatsoever about them.
  18. QUOTE (Tex @ Dec 23, 2011 -> 07:10 AM) Milkman, in a different thread, I mused that a couple ex Oz players have followed him to Miami. It was quickly pointed out that those players just took the highest contract offered. May have been the same with Danks. For an extra million or two I would even work for you But there's no way to know that with Danks, as he had no ability to test the market.
  19. QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 23, 2011 -> 08:07 AM) For those who seem to feel that Quentin is of little value, and was a "one hit wonder" in 2008. It might be revealing to know that, even if you throw out 2008, his numbers over the last 3 seasons are still very impressive: If you combine all of his stats over the years 2009, 2010 and 2011, and divide by 160 games per season, he has produced at the following rate: 31 doubles, 32 homers and 100 RBI's per 160 games. I suspect that there are plenty of teams that could use that kind of production. Now, can he stay healthy? That is a question that every GM would have to address. I've personally always worried more about all of those "Hit By Pitch" numbers. Except for the Plantar Faciatis, his injuries have pretty much been a result of hard play, and do not suggest that he is 'fragile'. Of course, his contract status is another thing. How someone can describe Quentin as anything but fragile is beyond me.
  20. QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Dec 23, 2011 -> 04:55 AM) Do you have any info on his stuff? All I can find is his fastball tops out around 96, but that was in an article from years ago when he was still with the Braves. His K rate seems to get better and better each year, but that walk rate is downright scary... I did find a video of him pitching this offseason: Scary good or scary bad? I'm guessing bad.
