QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 22, 2011 -> 07:39 PM) I love his spin job today. He totally didn't acknowledge it Of course. I wouldn't even expect anything else. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 22, 2011 -> 07:45 PM) So a team in the third largest market in the country needs that many different things to happen (you even left out Rios, etc) to contend in a division that doesn't feature any of the top 5 teams in the AL? Yeah, no reason at all to tear it apart. 80-82 it is. Nice.

QUOTE (Cali @ Dec 22, 2011 -> 04:57 PM) Must suck to be an A's fan. Even if you get the 4 best prospects from another team, in a few years once those guys make it to the bigs and produce, they'll be on their way out the door for more prospects... They should have won the Series in 2001 and/or 2002.... Bummer Find one and ask. It'll be tough.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 06:48 PM) This is why we can't let Democrats run anything, because they have no principles. Why not start negotiating with terrorists too. Maybe one day if we bend over enough we'll see eye to eye on our differences. I'm not asking for a negative action in reaction to his death. I'm asking to not be active in wishing a successor to one of the worst leaders in history, whose killed millions of his own people and keep tens of millions more in poverty, 'great success' in continuing that trend. It literally disgusts me that you think this is acceptable, long-term objectives be damned. That's a leap.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 05:42 PM) I agree with Balta. Not to mention Carter isnt the President and doesnt have any actual "power" so what possible negative could there be from this. The hope is that Jong-un is not his father and that maybe Carter could act as an intermediary in bringing NK back from isolation. Jong-un could be worse than Il-Jong,he could be better. But nothing wrong with hoping for the best. If you notice, Carter made no reference to Il-Jong's legacy, so Im not sure how you can extrapolate that he was supporting anything Il-Jong did. If anything I believe hes trying to tell Jong-un that he can be different and that the rest of the world is waiting for NK to come out of the dark. Agreed. But let's not turn this into a political discussion. It should remain as it was intended, a celebration of the death of a piece of human trash.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 04:14 PM) I hear ya. And you are right that the Sox brass understands that a full-on, multi-year rebuild isn't really possible for multiple reasons. I'm not saying I'm all excited for 2012 or anything, I am just saying... if Danks is willing to sign a reasonable extension, that changes the landscape a bit, and I am less worried than I was about how this will play out. Still want to see what happens the next month or so. I'm not jumping off a bridge yet. And as I've said, you have to realize that KW's version of a rebuild doesn't target 2015, it targets 2013 at the latest. In that view, this could be a good move, regardless of what happens in 2012. Fair enough.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 04:08 PM) Really? I suppose if after this they trade Quentin, and they are willing to stick with this level of player payroll... this team doesn't look so terrible for 2012. Danks/Floyd/Peavy/Humber/Sale with Molina, Stewart and Axelrod in the wings looks reasonably good for SP. Santos is replaced by Reed in the pen, which I think is probably going to be an even deal. Players like Dunn, Beckham and Rios all coming off almost impossibly bad years for their talent level, and I'd bet serious money at least 1 and likely 2 of them bounce back. Viciedo, Morel and De Aza developing, Ramirez and Konerko consistent. That's really not an awful looking team to me. But one random dude with the rumor, I'll believe it when I see it. I can't stress how much this mindset angers me. I can't blame JR and KW for doing what they're doing, because it takes so little to draw fans back in. This team was f***ing terrible last year, and with almost no changes (and mostly for the worst), people are already willing to jump back on board. I don't mean this directly at you, NSS, as I've already spoken to a couple of friends today about this rumor and they're all already happy to go into next season as is. If we won't demand better, we don't deserve better.

QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 04:04 PM) I can't promise this will work out, because I have no idea, but what if they felt getting a good starting pitcher in the system was more important than having Santos another year when they have a lot of confidence in Reed? If they keep Thornton, Ohman, Frasor, Crain, and Reed along with some long relief, that should be enough...and Molina will be at AA and be ready to go in 2013 at the latest. I just don't think Santos being traded is a deal breaker when it comes to the Sox competing in 2012. If the Sox planned on competing in 2012, they should have kept Santos unless they were offered a king's ransom. If they're rebuilding, you trade him for whatever he gets you. The problem is that I don't think even KW knows what he wants to do anymore.

2012 Cuban signees thread Cespedes/Soler/Concepcion

QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 02:04 PM) CQ is one of the most overrated players to ever play for the Sox.. He had one good season I think all you have to do is be a regular player for a Sox playoff team, and your legend will never die. -

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 01:14 PM) Carlos Quentin is also the one who deserves to play the most of the five. We would be better off "giving away" someone like Rios. Even if we did sign some new Cuban phenom chances are he might be in the minors just like Viciedo was. -
Just get some wine, period. You've been dating a month. And what kind of shoes are we talking about? That should give you an idea of the price for what you should give her, but that sounds like a but much anyway for having only dated a month.

Jays/Sox talking about Danks/TCQ
Milkman delivers replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 09:16 AM) Thats another factor as well. Our team may actually be pretty decent as is (even without TCQ). We all know, in the AL Central, if your decent your likely a contender for the division. I'm all for keeping Danks for the first half! -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 21, 2011 -> 08:39 AM) If Danks was having a great season but still pitching in the Cell, his ERA wouldn't be in the 2's. And anyway, as frustratingly inconsistent as Danks has been in his career, I can't fathom how he'd ever pull off a full 3 months like that. It's not in his makeup. Exactly. That scenario is laughable.
