  1. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 10, 2011 -> 08:28 PM) Hey Brewers, need a LF for a couple months? Quentin? That was pretty much the first thing that crossed my mind when I heard the news.
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 10, 2011 -> 07:55 PM) I believe Braun. I'll bet there is an explanation. There is no way this guy was using some kind of designer PED's. I'm sure it's some kind of stupid mistake. I bet he fell on a needle, which is eerily similar to the way Hamilton fell face-first into a mound of cocaine.
  3. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 10, 2011 -> 07:54 PM) I love when people automatically rise up and say.... Frank did it clean!...Paulie did it clean!.... You don't know these people!!!! You have no idea. I have no idea. It's better to just hope they didn't, but say nothing. Sorry, I had to get that off my chest. Oh, and I'd say strip Braun of his MVP, but whatever. Definitely should, and you'd assume that they would, but will they?
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 10, 2011 -> 04:54 PM) Ozzie's gone, that's supposed to be good. Walker's gone, everyone should hit .300. Buehrle gone without an offer...........great move by your standards, horrible by mine. Ventura never managed before? So what. Didn't Brenly win the WS the first season he ever managed? Will Robin be splitting the atom or something in the dugout? Do you think during the 15 years or so he played, he paid no attention? Its not like he has to install a new offense or defense. Its baseball. If it all requires years of experience at the major league level, none of us should have anything to say. This is not the hardest division to win. Mistakes were made. The two glaring mistakes costing the Sox about $26 million a year are going to be around for a while. I'm slightly optimistic with Peavy, not as optimistic as JR, but certainly feel unless he gets hurt again, he will be better. Sale will probably be good if he remains healthy, but in no way is he going to be able to match Buehrle's innings. We have a guy who can't pick players who have proven they can play making decisions. To let him chose guys who haven't proved anything yet could mean this team will be awful for at least 5 years. Where does attendance go then? If then guys can play, they have to get paid, no one is coming to the park and to think they will suddenly hop back to 2 million fans after 4,5,6 years of being totally irrelavant is beyond silly, the Sox won't be able to pay those players, so guess what, more prospects. Face it, the Sox 2008 first round pick was in the major leagues in 2009 and in 2010 you were already calling him a bust. You don't have patience for rebuilding. I think you literally named every worst-case scenario.
  5. Haha I'm the typical American in my love for watching idols fall.
  6. I would hope that we could do better than most of that list.
  7. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 10, 2011 -> 11:28 AM) Both of you pretty much called Kyle an a**hole. I don't think he weighed in. He just posted a story.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 10, 2011 -> 10:30 AM) Salivating over A ball rosters isn't much fun. The fans in Pittsburgh, KC and Baltimore are probably sick about hearing of prospects. I'm sure the few fans left in Oakland are getting a little sick of getting prospects, developing them, then dealing them for some more wondering if the cycle will ever stop. One poster thought the Sox should be more like the Rays. Apparently he didn't realize how bad for how long the Rays had to be to get to their current position. The fact is most who want this do not have the patience for it. Gordon Beckham played in the minor leagues a very short time. Yet it hasn't taken long for many to call him a bust. I don't have the patience for it. I want to get to the middle of winter with some hope on my mind, knowing that chances are I will be dissappointed at some point, but the 2 or so times a decade I'm not, makes it well worth it. Going into seasons with no hope isn't going to be good for business. Milkman will be there. He'll probably have his own personal vendors. That'd be awesome. And let's not pretend that the Rays got to where they are simply by losing and getting awesome picks. They devoted a lot of resources to finding and developing talent. I'm sure we're going to be hearing a lot about the Royals, Pirates, and Orioles for some time. I'll just have to get used to that. They're the epitome of failure, so they're the stock argument.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 10, 2011 -> 09:12 AM) You did what you should have done individually, but the circumstances you can't control didn't. Nope that is a perfect comparison to me. A better comparison would be to a manager who seemingly makes the right moves, but the players screw up and they lose consistently. It'd be justifiable to fire him. The results are what matter for a manager/GM. There are no individual stats for management (other than wins and losses).
  10. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Dec 10, 2011 -> 07:22 AM) There really is no logical reason for him to be here. It's such a fan-boy type of signing that is only meant to invigorate the old feelings of 2005. "He's a club house leader," we'll hear. Or, "he'll be a good addition with the departure of Buehrle to manage the clubhouse." No one here knows Ventura enough as a manager to trust him; but I would rather remove the temptation all together or Rowand being on this team. I just fear a scenario where he's the go-to guy when players are struggling because of his veteran status and clubhouse leadership. I swear, I won't truly be happy until every member of the 2005 White Sox team retires. I've already anticipated hearing rumors of Buehrle returning less than two seasons from now. Couldn't agree more.
  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 10, 2011 -> 09:13 AM) Having let it soak in, and having seen the photo, I do have a lot to say. Most of it is profanity laced, so I'll keep that 3/4 of it out, best as I can. These 3 posts generally sum up my reactions. Two people CAN be hypocrites in the same exact situation, because there are multiple ways of interpreting the situation. The only thing we can do is base things off of context. Buehrle mentioned multiple times that he had intentions of retiring after this previous contract. I do not blame him for taking the $58 million from the Marlins and the 2 years he'll be stuck with that loudmouth Venezuelan of a manager. I do call him a hypocrite for taking it, considering it is probably the furthest away he could get away from the Midwest (which, as an assumption with some mediocre inferences within quotes along the way, is where he wanted to end his career). However, I do not call Kenny Williams a hypocrite. I do not recall him saying that resigning Buehrle was a priority, nor did he make it a priority. Instead, I would say Williams failed miserably at his job over these past 2 weeks. Resigning Buehrle should have been at the same priority as resigning Konerko was, if not more so, yet he did not have the funds. His biggest (and only move) was trading the cost-controlled relief pitcher for a guy who might be Jose Contreras out of the rotation and will hopefully be Jose Contrereas out of the bullpen (dude does look good). I'm more pissed at Williams because it's going to take a cold day in Hell for this team to win more than 85 games next year. More likely, even with good years from Beckham, Rios, AND Dunn, this team is going to win 83 games and spending like $20 million on a bullpen, which might give the Sox 300 innings (if they're lucky) when, instead, he could have dealt Danks for the best offer received, dealt Thornton for the best offer received, and NOT TENDERED FRASOR A CONTRACT, the Sox could have actually made an offer to Buehrle (I would not have been surprised to see him take 4/$50 from the Sox), they'd have some pieces for the future, and we wouldn't have to see Buehrle pitch in the worst uniform in all of Major League Baseball. Williams failed, and not only on Buehrle. He had, by far, the most disappointing Winter Meetings of any and all GMs. This should have been his litmus test. I hope, and I really, really do hope, that it was. And I hope he failed. Williams needs to go, regardless of whether he is a hypocrite. I can't not agree more. I do love Buehrle. I saw him make his first career start and get his first career win - in Minnesota, July 19th, 2000 - and I will never stop loving him. That doesn't matter to me. As a White Sox fan, first and foremost, I want him on my team, and when he is not, I do not wish for his success. I genuinely do not care how he performs with "Miami." He burned a bridge at which he will not ever care to look. It matters not to me. I won't care if he wins a Cy Young or is Barry Zito Jr. Mark Buehrle is Mike Pelfrey as far as I'm concerned. Unfortunately for me, I also agree with this. Thank you.
  12. Haha, I love reading scientists' relatively simple explanations for things that UFO freaks think must be UFO's. Besides the scientist explaining it away rather easily, the fact that the guy on the other end of the argument is just a YouTube user makes this pretty a pretty open-and-shut case.
  13. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 11:12 PM) Unfortunately, that's sober greg. You wouldn't want to witness a drunk greg. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. He sometimes accused chestnuts of being lazy.
  14. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 07:26 PM) Congrats buddy, enjoy it, seriously, f***in enjoy it. Just get worse from there.
  15. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 04:52 PM) IMO, I don't think its pretty damn cool to be making jokes about the Penn ST scandal or any child sexual abuse case... If people want to make sick jokes about child sexual abuse, I am sure there are plenty more websites that can fulfill people sick minds but lets talk about the White Sox on this site. I thought the initial post was a joke until I read this.
  16. It's funny seeing everybody talk about all of the secret ways to get to games. I literally walk.
  17. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 02:23 PM) I may do that a few times this year. I've been so close to the action its very hard for me personally to go back up top unless its Cubs/Sox. This yes I think we will be able to sit wherever you want for many of those games however. I used to do that at Reds games, they were 10 bucks for the top 10 rows and we always moved all the way down. For years, that's all I ever did at Sox games. Grade school through high school. Those were the days.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 12:16 PM) This is the fan equal of saying that a guy with 16 wins and a 5.50 era is better than a guy with 10 wins and a 2.25 era. I think that comparison is crap, but have it however you'd like it.
  19. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 12:12 PM) I believe with a better MGR, we would have been to the playoffs a lot more I won't disagree there.
  20. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 12:23 PM) I was going to say it was like the rich getting richer, but really who scored here? The yankees didn't do much, but will as they pursue that Japanese phenom and many of the competing teams other than the Angels pretty much stood still. LA-LAA land had the money I guess. Miami did too. Don't know where they got it but they did. There are still some pitchers like Edwin Jackson on the market and no doubt he will get a pretty good contract from somebody. I know our guys will be in demand. I just hope KW stands his ground and doesn't try and make a deal just because he has to keep his reputation. I can think of worse things than moving ahead into the 2012 season with our nucleus intact. Those big non-performers we all talk about need to rebound. That happening is just such a big question mark though When are people going to realize that Japanese players are never anywhere near their expectations? You're lucky to get a good season out of a Japanese pitcher, and only two hitters have been very good. I can't wait until baseball catches up and they stop paying ridiculous amounts just to negotiate with them.
  21. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 04:56 PM) I dunno. I think 10 would have been plenty. Nobody died, nobody got physically injured, and nobody lost their life savings because of what he did. Nobody's going to be "safer" with him in jail, and he never actually profitted from the Senate seat scheme, or much else. Hard to feel sorry for him, though. I think corrupt politicians are the worst people on Earth, behind only serial rapists and murderers. They f*** over large groups of people, and usually it's their day-in/day-out activity.
  22. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 04:54 PM) I laughed. I wasn't sure if people would get it or just assume I was making up some serious hypothetical.
  23. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 12:04 PM) Wait a second here...the 2006 team won like 90 games...and that was not his fault that they failed down the stretch...they had the second best record at the ASB. Obviously in 2005 there was a WS... The 2008 team won a division... The 2011 team had every chance to win and the players and the manager just s*** themselves... That's 4 teams in the last 7 that I felt very good about, and honestly, the 2009 team had every chance to win. The 2010 team KW and JR agreed to let Ozzie have things his way. I can understand the discontent and the desire for change...but I'm not ready to turn my back on KW just yet...I want to see him function with someone that isn't bats*** crazy for a year or two... I'm OK with him having another year or two. In my mind, he deserved to keep his job more than Ozzie. But if they fired him, I would have been fine with that as well. No playoffs for 5 of 6 years is a failure. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 12:05 PM) Everything is fun about drinking and eating at the ballpark. I don't have to drink for each game, but I'm definitely going to want some ballpark food. That's part of the freaking experience. It's right there in the song for crying out loud. Eating before and bringing water with you sound like a damn chore.
