  1. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 05:16 PM) Do people not realize this? The Giants were willing to give up $15 million just to never watch him play anymore and they have one of the worst offenses in baseball. He's bad and steroid testing isn't gonna end anytime soon. HE WAS NEVER ON STEROIDS. STEFF TOLD ME SO.
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 02:38 PM) I dont think the Tigers are "incredibly strong" at all. And I think the Sox have enough as it stands right now to compete in the division. It is the CONSENSUS on this board that this was an underachieving team last season correct? Well, what if under a new voice in the clubhouse that they actually played up to their ability? Here is what the Tigers trotted out this year, and obviously some of them are gone like Maggs: http://espn.go.com/mlb/team/lineup/_/name/det/detroit-tigers This seems like the same thing we hear each year. The Sox might have just enough talent to win this division, as long as other teams don't play to their abilities.
  3. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 02:33 PM) Jim Bowden: Seattle is the front runner for Fielder Richie Sexson, Adrian Beltre, Prince Fielder?
  4. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 02:36 PM) The 5 teams on the final list for Buehrle Marlins - 1,216 miles to St. Louis, MO Angels - 1,821 miles to St. Louis, MO Rangers - 650 miles to St. Louis, MO Washington - 816 miles to St. Louis, MO Mets - 952 miles to St. Louis, MO Thank god the Cubs, Det, and Minn are not on the list.. U.S. Cellular Field - 298 miles to St. Louis, MO As we can see, being closer to home and retiring early to be with family are clearly the two biggest priorities for Mark Buehrle. Oh, and money. Lots and lots of money.
  5. This move most likely wouldn't hurt, but can't we simply sever all ties to 2005 soon?
  6. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 03:49 PM) I can usually come up with a few things that I want simply because I never manage to actually go out and buy them for myself for some reason. This year I want the new Stephen King book that just came out, a new Sox hat, the Family Guy Star Wars Trilogy and a small hatchet to chop up firewood when we go camping. On BF I picked up a 72-piece drillbit set for $20 at Lowe's just because it was too good a deal to pass up. My wife is wrapping it up and putting it under the tree for me. And to keep the kids in line. Don't lie.
  7. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 01:05 PM) The Usual Suspects is the most overrated movie ever. Out of curiosity, what are some of your favorite movies?
  8. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 02:06 PM) I think I've said this previously, but Winter's Bone is quite literally the worst movie I have ever seen. Just awful. You say some ridiculous s***
  9. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 01:30 PM) Allegedly. EDIT: Meant that for Boeheim, not Paterno. That why I had a part in parentheses.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 12:11 PM) And much celebration was had. Yayyyyyy...
  11. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 12:09 PM) Is Nestor the only piece? I would have thought you could squeeze another fringy piece in for Santos. That was my first thought, but I like the trade anyway.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 11:10 AM) So you are thinking it will take 4-5 years of sucking now? I don't know how long it will take. I do know that the current format isn't working, so any amount of time it would take would be equal to the number of underachieving seasons going forward we'd have with the current way of doing things.
  13. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 10:54 AM) He says that now, but if did come back and won the Superbowl with the Bears, he'd be the first in line buying his f***ing jersey and slobbing his knob. I heard this same crap out of the Vikings fan base before Favre went there, too. I'm sorry but winning is winning. It's not your money they'd be spending, so why do you care? Anyone on this board pretending they'd rather lose than have Favre win is a moron, and it's what classifies you as a "Da Bers" fan, versus a Chicago Bears fan. They're not winning either way. It's far too late in the season for him to make a difference, let alone lead them to a Super Bowl. And I'm hardly a Bears fan at all, let alone a "Da Bears" fan. I hate those people.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 10:45 AM) People here are talking about 2-3 years. I think that's the people against the rebuild saying 2-3 years.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 08:24 AM) So in other words, resigning Mark Buehrle does nothing to prevent the Sox from rebuilding. Now we can put that silliness to bed. But that wasn't the argument. You asked for a team that successfully rebuilt, no?
  16. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 06:25 AM) And the point he's trying to make still evades you. Milk, like myself and many others, want to see change. We want to see a new direction. A new method of attack. The imposed method has not worked for this organization. We, because we're big boys and don't react to the word rebuild the way a 5-year old reacts to the so-called boogeyman or the monster hiding under the bed, can tolerate a few down seasons (i.e. still going to games), or to be more specific, 2-3 seasons where we go into April appearing not to have a chance on paper, if you're ultimately working towards something better and sustainable down the road. He understands, he's just trying to manipulate what I said. Everyone on this board knew my stance last season, as I repeated it ad nauseam.
  17. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 12:29 AM) Or you could say this.... It makes sense to give daily playing time to many young guys while Rios and Dunn ride out their contracts. You hope that they turn it around at some point and if they do - you trade them. If not, oh well - by the time that the injected youth matures - we'll be primed to pickup a good DH and CF in the free agent market. Hell, by that time - we could draft for those slots now and have a replacement there. And I'd wager that both Dunn and Rios perform much better on a team with no expectations. This, in turn, would make them moveable.
  18. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 09:24 AM) I would like to see him stay You just despise change, don't you?
  19. QUOTE (MAX @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 01:06 AM) I'd consider slicing my penis up at the deli in a meat slicer and eating all the pieces before rooting for brett farve. Poetry.
  20. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 10:23 AM) typo maybe? Most likely answer.
  21. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 10:29 AM) No idea. My grandma whose house I've been at for every year of my life on Christmas just passed away last week. All I know is I will be watching the Bulls and Aaron Rodgers, don't really care where at. Sorry, man.
  22. QUOTE (Tex @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 10:18 AM) And that is probably the difference. I viewed him as a literary villian because I think of the books first. You think of the movies. Definitely. And when the first movie came out, I was 16 and had no desire to see them. 101 Dalmatians came out decades before I was born, so I grew up seeing that movie.
  23. So, we've acquired two guys to evaluate talent from teams with good minor leagues so far? I like.
  24. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 5, 2011 -> 08:04 PM) The Cardinals barely made it to the playoffs, got hot and won it all. The Sox had the talent to do something similar. It just didn't pan out. I see what you're saying, but still it could have been done. Great, this argument again.
  25. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 5, 2011 -> 07:52 PM) If you paid for 0 tickets in a year where we had a record-setting payroll and appeared to be serious contenders to start the season, then I seriously doubt you'll go to 15-20 games when we suck major balls. Having said that, there's exceptions to every rule. I knew very early in the season that this team was crap with no passion, led by an (intentionally?) inept manager. People on this board will attest to that. I swore I wouldn't pay for another ticket as long as Ozzie was managing. I did go to few games with free tickets, though. And I've been going to a dozen or more games a year since at least the late '90s. So I was going even when they sucked. I'll show up if they are cellar dwellers.
