2011-12 White Sox off season catch all thread
Milkman delivers replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Nov 29, 2011 -> 04:10 PM) Doug Padilla White Sox replace Ozzie plan for season tix with a "Pick 14 Plan." Went on sale today. Indiv. game tix go on sale in Feb. For those who were wondering! I like how they don't call it the "Paul Konerko plan", so they can still trade him. -
QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ Nov 29, 2011 -> 04:42 PM) 1. Thornton could absolutely bring a nice return - if Kenny is patient. That is the whole key and the whole question. He's never been patient in the past. The best trade returns come as the FA signings near then end and the left out teams become desperate. As far as Thornton goes the Sox are in a great position because the Yanks are in dire need of someone just like him and the Red Sox need any kind of good pitching. Also, prices for relievers has been going up so much so that Thornton's contract is not prohibitive at all. 2. A blind man can see that the Sox need to rebuild. Would they do a complete rebuild job ? I don't believe it for a second. I don't think that there is any way that KW or JR has the patience for it or the balls to say to the fan base that we plan to compete again in 2 or 3 years. Expect a half-ass gutting and a few additions meant for 2012 so management can say come out to the ballpark because we can win in 2012. KW said " we are looking for ML ready talent". He didn't say "the best prospects". So sad and true.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 29, 2011 -> 03:20 PM) SI_JonHeyman Jon Heyman #yankees have no visit currently planed with cj wilson, despite his agent's request. has he overpriced himself for yankees? I'm glad that teams aren't being taken to the cleaners like before. Players' demands were getting way past ridiculous.

I just realized that my #3 is also a real life person, and a few of my others as well. I know for a fact that #3 is very much sensationalized, though.
-
QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 29, 2011 -> 12:53 PM) Those two are a re-imagining of a real life people. Goethe was Goethe. True, but I'm sure the character was re-imagined to an extent. I'm just grasping at straws here!
-
QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 29, 2011 -> 12:29 PM) Technically, Goethe shouldn't have counted because he was a real person. Dracula/Vlad the Impaler and Dr. Szell/Josef Mengele?
-
Oh s***, wow. I thought all that stuff about him dying on the most recent roast was a joke.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 29, 2011 -> 12:05 PM) The picture emerging is of every asset not named Konerko or Ramirez being available. Which means paulie is probably available too. If its going to happen, no half measures. If you deal one piece, look to 2014 and move anyone you can't keep until then, and anyone else you get a great offer for.
-
The Sox should trade off anyone they can for as much value as possible. Next season, I would fully expect bounce-back years from Rios and Dunn if the team isn't in contention. And then we're suddenly able to deal them.

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Nov 29, 2011 -> 12:19 PM) Milkman and I think a lot alike in terms of movies. I began to notice it with the Sports movie list. And now we're the only 2 to pick Dr. Szell and Amon Goethe. It's creepin' me out. From what I recall, you're an older poster, correct? I've been told thousands of times that my taste in movies/music/etc. is way too old for my actual age...and that I'm like a grumpy old man No matter how this list ends, I'll never be able to understand Amon Goethe not being #1 on every list, let alone not even on 14 lists.

QUOTE (The Critic @ Nov 29, 2011 -> 09:37 AM) If only there was a reason to get half that excited about electing the next crop of politicians, instead of always having to try to figure out who is the lesser of two evils, the country would be a way better place. Amen.
-
Only two votes for Dr. Szell? I'm disappointed in 14 of you.
-
I'm really excited for this list. The first few already have multiple votes, so I'm guessing there will be a good amount of overlap in there. Thanks again for doing this, Knight. And in regards to Max Cady: http://www.cracked.com/article_19536_6-hap...es-hero_p2.html

QUOTE (danman31 @ Nov 28, 2011 -> 03:09 PM) I think that's just because there was little progress in the season until the last 5 minutes of this episode. I was thinking 'oh we finally have some story progress and you go on break, awesome.' The first season had a lot of story progress, but focused less on character development so the cliffhanger was relatively weak but it kept you interested throughout. Hopefully that they've got a lot of character development out of the way they can have a strong finish to the season though. Exactly.

Sox have not talked to Danks about extension this winter
Milkman delivers replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Don't talk to him about an extension. The guy had absolutely no interest in extending for years, as his mouth was watering at the huge payday awaiting him once he hit free agency. Now that he's basically proven that he'll never live up to that "ace" potential, and even took a step back, he'd probably be willing to negotiate. But f*** him. Trade him for the best package possible. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 28, 2011 -> 02:27 PM) If this happens...if somehow this happens, you say a couple prayers of thanks and you immediately cut bait and run from Dunn, Peavy, and Rios, and you save as much money as humanly possible. If you can get talent back great, but if the awful contract 3 are playing well enough that they can be moved at a small loss or no loss, get rid of them immediately, and go into next offseason with no bad contracts on the books. Exactly. He described it as a worst-case scenario, but I was reading it like it would be the best possible outcome. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 28, 2011 -> 02:33 PM) SI_JonHeyman Jon Heyman hearing #cardinals aren't moving up from 200-210M for 9 they offered albert before season. still the team to beat tho Good. No player deserves or needs more than that.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Nov 28, 2011 -> 02:24 PM) If you watch the Talking Dead after show the writer said that Herschel referenced that Otis was that one that rounded them up, so he was the only one aware of who was in the barn. He's dead and isn't able to connect the dots for the group. That said, I was still hoping for a 'we may never know' cliffhanger for realism, though they seemed to write their way out of it pretty well. Well, there you go. That about packs it up neatly. And while a "we may never know" cliffhanger would have been good, that finale does so much more for the plot and characters moving forward. Rick really needed something to separate him from the rest of the group, something definitive to show his "superiority" (for lack of a better word). This did it. The way this finale went, I'm looking forward to the next part more than I was after the previous finale, despite this season as a whole being worse.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 28, 2011 -> 12:18 PM) Lol, this guy is great: videogum.com/421311/the-walking-dead-s02e07-season-finale-sort-of/tv/recaps/ That website seems like they don't have anything good to say about anything. I'm not surprised on their take.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 28, 2011 -> 11:00 AM) Mark has a fear of NY since 9/11? Um, huh? Seems odd, and I've never heard about it. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 28, 2011 -> 08:10 AM) 26 year old reliever, 6.06 ERA last year in 25 appearances, came to the M's in the Cliff Lee deal, faced rape and sodomy charges before pleading to lesser offense back in 2009. This might come off as offensive (who am I kidding, might?) to some, but how do you plead down to lesser charges of rape and sodomy? Surprise butt sex?
-
QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Nov 28, 2011 -> 11:07 AM) Agreed. I liked how they handled that. I also was not expecting Sophia in the barn. When it was clear there was another zombie left to walk out, I thought it was going to be Herschel's wife. I'm really surprised they didn't make a point to show her getting put down along with Herschel's reaction. Oh well. Well, it'd be sort of difficult to do that, as we don't know which zombie was his wife. It might have come off as contrived if they tried to make one stick out of the pack as his wife. I finally figured out it was Sophia when you could hear another zombie after the pause.
