  1. Let's just cut the s*** and call them the Disney Marlins.
  2. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 13, 2011 -> 01:51 AM) Fine. Wait, you originally cut out the hot chick on purpose? QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 13, 2011 -> 06:05 AM) Just wondering, how did Mark become indebted to the organization that he should give a hometown discount? Isn't that like the employee buying the owner a gold watch? For me, it's all about him being a hypocrite by signing with certain teams.
  3. Rowand, Russ, Heads, How are you guys not 300 pounds? QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 13, 2011 -> 04:26 AM) Damn, you caught me. But drunk head may seriously be the greatest thing ever... Fixed.

    Catapults

    Haha, that's pretty damn funny. I have never heard of a flaccid asshole before, though.
  5. QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 12, 2011 -> 09:07 PM) The first responsibility is to be certain no further abuse is happening. I believe that has happened. The victims are not Penn State students. Shutting down the program would not prevent one of the employees from further abusing a kid. Unless I missed something, it seems like the most attention should be on the foundation, not Penn State, to prevent further abuse. This was a former employee using a facility. Is it really much different than shutting down a hotel he might have used? Or did I miss how he was accessing 10 year-olds through a University? Now if new evidence uncovers additional abusers at the university, then they need to be prosecuted. I just do not see how firing secretaries, trainers, media liaisons, travel secretaries, ticket agents, grounds crew, all who had nothing to do with this will help anyone. Who the f*** is saying to do that? It's being talked about firing the people who actively took part in keeping this a secret, not the guy who paints the end zone that never heard any of this. QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 12, 2011 -> 09:12 PM) BTW, based on what I have read so far and believing that at least 5 employees are involved, I would be in favor of no bowl games for five years, reductions in the number of scholarships, substantial payments to the victims and to child abuse prevention organizations. Wouldn't that be hurting the students who would have gotten those scholarships by making them pay a greater portion of their education even though they had no part of it?
  6. QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 12, 2011 -> 09:13 PM) Yup. Has nothing to do with the hundreds of millions of dollars being offered. If the Pirates were offering the same contracts, they'd be getting the same amount of interest.
  7. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Nov 12, 2011 -> 08:45 PM) It's no "Thad", of course, but it's alright. Thad is right behind Nancy in the "manliest names" category.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 12, 2011 -> 05:35 PM) False. Because then he would be angry all of the time. By now he would be a serial killer. How do we know he isn't?
  9. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 12, 2011 -> 04:48 PM) Shut up Herbert. Herbert is a classy, classy name.
  10. QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 12, 2011 -> 07:04 PM) What about Victoria Falls? It's perdy.
  11. QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 12, 2011 -> 06:57 PM) I'm starting the list on my first day off. Hopefully Monday. Unacceptable. I demand it be completed by Monday, at the latest.
  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 12, 2011 -> 04:11 PM) No one is saying anything has to be rushed. Throughout the entire thread I have been pushing for people to reserve judgment until more of the facts are known. But when you start having recruits come forward saying Sandusky was at their spring game last year, that implicates the entire program in a much darker cloud than had previously been the case. I'm still in favor of letting the facts sort themselves out, but it's getting more and more apparent that this could be one slimy, sick mess. Finish the games this year, for all I care. Then suspend the program and do a full-scale investigation, collect the facts, make a measured determination of what needs to be done to make sure this never happens again, that it could never happen again, and then you implement it. One would assume it wouldn't happen so quickly as to not miss a beat, but who knows...It's not a matter of punishment, Tex. It's a matter of responsibility. That would be a fine way to go about it.
  13. I honestly hope the NCAA finds a reason to ban them for a season.
  14. QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 12, 2011 -> 03:12 PM) Agreed. Although I don't think it would take a year to replace a coaching staff. All my comments are based on what we know today. I am trying to learn from the Duke lacrosse case. Many were screaming to close down their program. That's quite the difference. As I know it, the Duke lacrosse thing stemmed from a hooker lying. In this one, children were raped and the guy responsible was on the PSU campus as recently as last week and possibly still recruiting for the school this year. And I would think it'd take at least a year to set up an entirely new coaching staff and "front office", for lack of a better term.
  15. QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 12, 2011 -> 03:06 PM) And I believe punishing hundreds or thousands of innocent people is wrong. It will not help the victims, only create more. You kill the program for a couple years and you will kill the program for much, much longer. Plus do irreparable harm to innocent people. I want all the guilty people punished, but not the innocent. And if a large number of people from the football program are guilty, that would all but necessitate the program being shut down for a while to replace all of them.
  16. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 12, 2011 -> 01:27 PM) What is a realistic haul from the Rangers? The Sox would not be able to get Perez, Holland, or Ogando obviously but Texas has one of the best farm systems in baseball. Assuming the Sox would want pitching in return some options could be: Scheppers, Miguel De Los Santos, Kirkman, or even David Perez. Jurickson Profar, SS, would be a dream probably and they do have a load of OF prospects and 3B. What are everyone's thoughts on a potential deal with Texas? I swear that names in baseball, and probably in general, are getting more and more ridiculous. It's like everyone is trying to outdo everyone else.
  17. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 12, 2011 -> 02:52 PM) <!--quoteo(post=2509262:date=Nov 12, 2011 -> 12:42 PM:name=Milkman delivers)-->QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 12, 2011 -> 12:42 PM) <!--quotec-->I truly think that's inevitable. What we're looking at right now is the same thing we do every trade deadline. We think we have a chance when we really don't have much of one at all. We should be focusing on the future, not clinging to a false hope that we're still in this thing. I know we're not in a good position to fully rebuild with the contracts of Dunn and Rios, but we're not in a position to compete either, IMO. We should start taking bids on every single guy that will draw interest besides guys like Sale, De Aza, Viciedo, Morel, etc. Let Dunn and Rios ride out their contracts or trade them if someone is stupid enough to take them, and continue to build up young talent. It's going to take years, but these are years where we won't be competing anyway. Imagine if we had started to rebuild with that horrendous 2007 team. We'd be on our 5th year. It's true that we might not have done a good job of it, but we also might be 5 years into a successful rebuild. We just refuse to accept the truth that we're not going to be serious contenders. I completely disagree with you. If we bring back Beurhle and don't trade Quentin, Floyd, Danks, or Thornton, I think we'd have a halfway decent shot at winning the division. Our pitching staff would have the potential to be one of the best in the league. It would also have incredible depth, as you'd have either Sale or Humber and Stewart available in the event of injury. That depth would allow you to try and get whatever you could out of Peavy this year without coddling him and if he broke down you'd have a solid replacement available. The real concern would be the offense, but if you inject Viciedo in RF and move Quentin back to LF, you'd have significantly improved your outfield. You'd also have De Aza and Lillibridge as insurance in case Rios doesn't bounce back. You'd still need Dunn and Beckham to play like they're capable of, but at least our new manager should be quicker to pull the plug on a struggling player. With some natural growth from Morel and minor improvement from Ramirez, I think you'd see significantly more production from our lineup. Now, the odds of keeping all these guys is practically zero, but as long as Buerhle is back and you only move one or two of those other guys, I think you still have a shot at the division. I agree that the organization needs to start thinking about the future at some point, but there is no reason not to go for it in 2012 if Reinsdorf will support a $115 million payroll. If next year flops, I'd be cool with a rebuild, but just not yet. That's a huge problem for me. People say this every offseason and every trade deadline. And then the next one rolls around, and they're OK waiting for the next one again. It's a never-ending cycle. And with a completely raw manager and coaching staff, it would be the perfect time to begin a rebuild. They can learn to fine tune and such as the younger players get better, so hopefully they all hit their stride at about the same time. It's like killing two birds with one stone.
  18. That was probably the first and last time most of the country was rooting for Nebraska.
  19. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Nov 12, 2011 -> 01:41 PM) So upset I forgot Gus Fring. Oh, I remembered him. And he's very high on my list. When will the first few be posted?
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 12, 2011 -> 12:23 PM) Because although Niagra is "Wider" than Angel falls, Niagra's volume/area don't compare to others around the world. I get that, but Niagara and Angel Falls were the two being discussed.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 12, 2011 -> 12:47 PM) All Valentin love aside, The City of Fort Wayne sucks. Seriously. At least now the residents will have someone they're happy to see at a local restaurant or bar.
  22. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Nov 12, 2011 -> 12:25 PM) QFT f***in Paterno and all those who covered up the sick perv's dispicable crimes should go to jail and ban Penn State, the very least they can do... Some of these guys are going to learn a new definition of "Penn State".
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 12, 2011 -> 12:19 PM) Started an hour ago on ESPN. Nebraska is up 3-0, 3:33 on the clock in the 2nd quarter, Nebraska ball. Thank you, sir.
  24. What time is this game? I want to tune in and support Nebraska.
  25. QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 12, 2011 -> 06:18 AM) Ask yourself why a university wants a division 1 football program. Is it just to allow the program to help itself and not anything else at the university? The D1 program enhances the curb appeal of the university. It enhances its prestige. When Dr. Barry Marshall accepted a position at Penn State, do you think people opened up their checkbooks and made a donation? Did thousands of students dream of one day attending Penn State? Did Marshall appear on TV every Saturday around the state in a three hour recruiting infomercial? When you build a case that the university should drop the football program, you are negating all the good an athletic program is for a university at large and agreeing with those that believe they serve no purpose except to themselves. If that is the case, then every university should drop athletics and focus solely on their academic mission. They gain nothing from an athletic program and risk losing. Why bother? To punish a music student or math major because of the failings of a few people, who are being punished, and who would not be punished any further by the closing of the program, a closing that would not help any of the victims, and extends the list of innocent victims is wrong. We fully understand what a top-tier football program brings to a school. We simply understand that it's tough s*** if a large contingent of that program was aware of the sexual abuse.
