  1. OK, but you don’t think the FO wants to stay out of “historically bad” territory? This signing could in fact help in that regard. I’m betting these early results had the FO a little nervous.
  2. Yes, that small of an improvement is going to mean a lot to a first-year GM, especially at that low price. It will likely mean a lot to an owner who has to be noticing that nobody is buying tickets. Throw in this terrible start to the season, and they’re both probably getting a little worried. I’m not defending the move. I really don’t care what they do. I’m just explaining the logic of it from their standpoint.
  3. Seems like you’re looking at it as a no-win situation. I feel like the Sox see it as a no-lose situation. If the rumored dollar amount is accurate, the Sox are getting him for almost nothing. They know what to expect out of him on the field and in the clubhouse. If he performs similarly to last season, that’s a nice return on investment even without trading him for minor leaguers.
  4. Yes and no. Although the difference between 40 something losses and 50/60 something losses doesn’t really matter to most fans, the FO definitely doesn’t want to have one of the worst records in recent history. I imagine they saw how badly these first four games went and the overall malaise regarding the team, and they are maybe panicking a little.
  5. That’s really all they need him to do. If he can eat up 150+ innings, it will do worlds of good for every other pitcher on the team. And if he’s somewhat good, he helps to keep the Sox away from the historically bad record the FO is probably concerned about.
  6. Being as upfront as possible about this, why should the Sox care why no one else would take him? He seemingly wasn’t a clubhouse issue last year, and he pitched pretty decently. That’s all the matters for the Sox in this decision. He was on the team last season, so the PR hardly makes a difference to the franchise. Anyone who left because of him is probably already gone. And they’re not gonna be drawing much of a crowd no matter what they do this season. It seems like an obvious signing on the part of the front office to me.
  7. Well, it will certainly be interesting if you are right haha. To me, they look just about as bad as I expected. And I figured them for something around 58 wins.
  8. I will say that the negativity is a little over the top after just four games. They’re bad, but they’re upper 50s to lower 60s wins bad. Not historically bad.
  9. This might actually get them over the 60-win mark. No joking.
  10. So we’re not even pitching 4 starters between Crochet starts?
  11. The real April Fools are those of us who watch this game.
  12. I have a not-so-great back. Never had any injuries on the level of Moncada’s. I hurt different parts of my body by sleeping. Can’t imagine what the torque of a baseball swing must do the that man.
  13. And I’m not even saying either one is wrong in this thread.
  14. The only thing I know is that, if someone doesn’t step in to end this argument, this thread will go on forever. Balta and WestEddy are not known for their ability to admit they’re wrong ?
  15. Isn’t it well established that Eloy blows off stretching before games?
  16. Did he pick up English? Because if he did, that’s awesome and I’m impressed.
  17. Man, we are hitting the negativity hard and early. Not that it’s unwarranted. Just shows how jaded and beaten down this fanbase is.
  18. Same. Before I even did it, I thought it might be a joke. Now I’m sure.
  19. You think the Sox will score 16 in any given week this season?
  20. Is the Vikings logo racist?
  21. This right here. I was wrong on how the start would go. I expected a much earlier exit. I didn’t think he’d crack 60 innings this year, which I may be wrong about again since he’s already a tenth of the way there. But I still expect his season to end in injury.
  22. That “chocolate” on the rim is definitely just part of the glass and not actual chocolate, right?
  23. My school is pretty good in hockey, but I don’t follow college at all. I barely know anything about the NHL. I’ll follow more when the Hawks are good, but nothing more than fair weather. Yikes. I remember people making that argument with USC football in the mid-2000s. It was dumb then. This seems even dumber.
