March ******* (Basketball Thread)
Milkman delivers replied to Texsox's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Understood. I went to a smaller college, so that’s never been an issue for me. More or less just poking fun. Just ignore me haha. -

To be clear, several of you are actually watching the women’s tournament and not just pretending to in order to have something to discuss? ? -

Soxtalk gotta be the only site where you can discuss the White Sox and get tips on how to correctly commit fraud. Gotta love it. -
We do have to hope that Grifol is thinking what we’re thinking, and that he’s not just gonna throw anyone out there all season even if someone steps up and proves he can close.
-
Agreed. As far as we know, none of these guys are able to close, but maybe one of them can. If we just assign it to, say, Kopech right out of the gate and he blows it over and over, we’d never find out if one of the other guys can do it. We’re not competing, so might as well try some trial and error.

You have work in the morning or something?

To be clear, I don’t care either. Gambling is ubiquitous now, and I know a few guys I would consider degenerates. The problem is that the government cares. -

I assume these bets were made through an illegal bookie, not through a sports book. That’s the real difference. -

The biggest legal issue is that these are bets made through a bookie, not through like Draft Kings or some s%*#. That’s nothing to overlook, especially in the millions of dollars. Although I understand where you’re coming from. -
The new Ghostbusters was pretty forgettable. It did not stack up at all to Afterlife.

Seems almost everyone agrees that Ohtani was gambling. I’m sure we all also agree that the MLB will do everything in their power to ensure he isn’t touched. It will look pretty bad when a marginal player is caught gambling and he’s thrown to the wolves. -
M. Emmet Walsh - 88. Great character actor. You definitely know him.

OK, I hardly ever look at the screen names of people, basically go by the avatar. I thought the last bunch of posts were one guy having a conversation with himself ?

Why the asterisks? Does Soxtalk blur out the word “madness” or something? Edit: Nope. So is “madness” one of those unacceptable words now? -

I’m not a gambler. I don’t care about others gambling, but this kind of thing seems like the natural endpoint of all these leagues, teams, and individual players/celebrities getting in bed with the casinos/websites. Now the leagues will have to walk a tightrope when these incidents come up. They will have to decide who gets punished and who doesn’t, which will lead to conspiracy theories like the above posts. There will be accusations of hypocrisy. And you know what, they deserve it. Can’t have your cake and eat it too. -

Uh, that’s the Air Force. NASA was too busy faking moon landings to be bothered with that. -
White Sox fans #29 in "hope," down 20 spots in 2 years

This is what stuck out to me. Seeing the Sox at #29, I thought the A’s were surely going to be #30. I suppose the possibility of moving and starting fresh offers the slightest bit of hope? That’s my best guess. -

What is the most innings he’s pitched in a game, including college? Sorry if this has been answered already. -

He definitely is, but he’s just never gonna be healthy. It just is what it is. And I believe you’re absolutely right about Sheets. -

Dude, you’re getting way too upset about this. People are mocking a non-story. It’s not a big deal. -

I’m guessing you meant to quote WestEddy? My opinion of Crochet is that he’s already been ruined and the best we can hope for is a marginal major leaguer. -

None of that is surprising at all, yet it’s still incredibly depressing to see the drop put into numbers. -

How is it a “fun development” though. He’s simply the only option that’s been on the team. We have no ace and we don’t even have a #1 starter by any decent team’s standards, so you go with the guy who’s been on the team the longest. You are correct that it’s a lost season. That’s why the reactions are mostly people who just don’t care. The ones getting upset or defensive are likely just doing it as a coping mechanism due to the repeated failures of the franchise. The people upset about it are Randy Quaid in Major League. The people who don’t care are all the empty seats around him. -

I don’t have strong feelings on this move one way or the other. I will tell you one thing though. The Sox were funny/entertaining bad last year. I was beginning to think this year’s team would be more untalented bad, as in they’d play decent defense and the basics, but they would be outclassed by more talented teams. I’m beginning to think they’ll be funny bad again.
