  1. You really can’t go much of anywhere from the park and not pass through a dangerous neighborhood, and that includes the highway.
  2. Wow, I really have been removed from baseball. That’s the first I’ve heard of the Omar Vizquel stuff.
  3. Is that system free, by any chance? Because if the Sox have to pay a substantial amount to upgrade to it, that’s gonna be one less free agent.
  4. It was two pages by the time the game ended, I believe. I wonder if there’s ever been a game thread that was only one page.
  5. First, understand that people hide weapons all over. It’s not uncommon for very fat people to hide weapons in fat rolls. Many people have been locked up with guns up their butts (I assume broken down). I’m being very serious. People hide them wherever they can. Second, never attribute to malice that which can be explained by stupidity. If it was in a fat roll, this person may have carried a gun like that regularly and forgot about it. They probably remembered when the detector went off, but at that point most people aren’t gonna come clean. They’ll just hope they get through. This is all speculation obviously, as we still don’t know all the facts. But some of these are things I’ve seen and heard myself, or have been told firsthand accounts of by people I trust.
  6. The Rockies are really freaking good at losing just enough. Every time I check the league standings after the Sox have a rough stretch, they’re still slightly better than Colorado.
  7. Being able to walk to the games is just about the only draw for me. If it involved any type of travel, I’d probably never go. The food isn’t even much of a draw anymore.
  8. The problem is that the UC is not East of that and the area West of the UC is no bueno.
  9. Somebody will probably quote a skewed stat to say otherwise, but yes. You don’t want to be there longer than absolutely necessary.
  10. I could only guess. I live right there. The violence creeps in no matter how nice the neighborhood is. The shooters remain the same, just more mobile.
  11. These arguments are always per capita vs overall numbers. 800 murders a year is gonna jump out at people.
  12. Chicago violence is par for the course at this point. I don’t think people would even bat an eye about it. “Not surprising, it’s Chicago.”
  13. It is definitely going up, but I’d say it’s still in that transition phase. It will become safer as gentrification sets in more, but that will be an issue in itself.
  14. I’d say congrats to JR. He just found a location more dangerous than our current spot.
  15. Even just telling them it’s cancelled without there being an obvious reason for cancellation would scare the s%*# out of people. And you’re right back into the crush risk.
  16. If it came from outside, there are only two ways to avoid it ever happening again. You need a dome or a new location. Even a retractable roof would’ve been open for that game.
  17. Crowd rushes are crazy. All it takes is one person panicking and it can become a full-on stampede. People don’t just get hurt in those, they die. Sometimes many of them. I’m not defending the actions of the team because we still don’t know the whole story. I’m just giving you context. Even if they announce for people to calmly make their way to the exit immediately, people will freak the f*** out and start pushing. And you can’t predict where it will go from there.
