  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 25, 2014 -> 12:57 AM) If they announced it at 9 a.m., Tuesday, nothing would have happened at 9 a.m. The Army would have had all day to prepare for nightfall. A whole day would have passed. This is just f***ing ridiculous setting the city on fire. The announcement and presence of all the media at nighttime was setting it up on a tee, just daring the people of Ferguson to, on cue, pillage the town. Very very sad. I don't know why I bother with you, greg. Clearly you do not read anything you respond to. If they announced it at 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning, the rioting would begin at nightfall on that very same day. The national guard already had days to prepare. Nothing would be different. But this way, innocent people had plenty of time to get to their homes.
  2. I assure you that if they waited until morning to make the announcement, the riots and looting would begin when nighttime rolls around. They announced it at night so that the innocent people who work or go to school would have ample time to get home safely before it began.
  3. Greg, the real issue is that most departments offer bonuses to any cop that gets into a shooting. The bonuses grow if the person is paralyzed or killed. And some even have kickers that depend on the age of the person shot, often increasing on either end of the age spectrum.
  4. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 17, 2014 -> 11:03 AM) The first 120 minutes of Interstellar were the best movie I've ever seen. Then it got weird. B But I want to see it again. Man, you are full of hyperbole when it comes to movies and TV. At no point during Interstellar did it ever cross my mind as one of the best in any way, let alone best movie I've ever seen.
  5. I dunno, I'd lean towards 3.8422333 for Lucy.
  6. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 27, 2014 -> 08:54 AM) I think it wrapped everything up nicely, so it was satisfying as much as it could be. I still think it was a mistake to end it so quickly and with a shortened season. We could have gotten at least two more seasons with Capone and Luciano. Although I guess I can understand Winters' concern that Nucky didn't have much story left. IMO they could have made him more of a secondary character and the show could have continued with him as the "main" guy but not leading in screen time. Focus on Chicago and New York with the occasional check-in on Nucky trying to become more legitimate while his rivals were doing everything but that. I do like the twist that Tommy didn't kill in revenge for his father, but in revenge for his grandmother. I guess that wasn't really a twist so much as me not reading that situation properly, but still, I liked it. It made sense. Also for those interested, Sepinwall did an interview with Winter about some lingering storylines/issues: http://www.hitfix.com/whats-alan-watching/...e-series-finale Definitely should have been a full season. But they way they ended it, it just seemed all too convenient. Like they tried to be too tidy with the Darmody kid. It felt forced, to me.
  7. Loved the show, but that finale was weak.
  8. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Oct 20, 2014 -> 01:22 AM) Next week is the series finale of Boardwalk? Wow. So obviously Nucky and probably Eli and most of Nucky's gang is going to die. Not sure yet what will happen with Will, or with Gillian, besides being saved by Nucky. Also, I feel like this Joe Harper person has to come back and play some role. No way he is just gone now. I've seen some rumors online that think Joe Harper is actually Tommy Dormody. But the timeline for that would make Tommy 13 or 14, and Joe Harper looks to be around 18-20. I guess Joe Harper is the name of a character from Tom Sawyer, so people think Joe Harper from Indiana is just a fake name. Would have been really cool if it was Tommy, but the timeline just doesn't add up. Pretty sure he's just a kid that reminds Nucky of himself, so he sent him away to prevent him from leading his life.
  9. I think Strange and bmags have sufficiently proven that they're some of the good white people
  10. He was an actor that portrayed a reverend, not a reverend. Don't overreact.
  11. Finally a Boardwalk Empire episode this season that wasn't boring or terrible.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 4, 2014 -> 02:44 PM) When it's finally announce no charges will be fired against the heinous cop, what's going to happen in Ferguson? Still there are disputes almost every night with the cops/protestors. I found it interesting the police chief apologized for keeping Mike Brown's body in the middle of the road for so long. It's disgusting that a few weeks after the fact they acknowledge how big and disgraceful a f***-up that was. So many cops should lose their jobs over this tragedy. You're a joke, greg.
  13. Like I said, I didn't watch the video. I was responding to the way it was phrased by Alpha. On a completely different tangent, in Illinois, physically hitting someone is a battery. Assault is a threat.
  14. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 24, 2014 -> 04:46 PM) While I realize that cops have a dangerous job, and they were told that there was a possible active shooter, from the video that was released, it looks like they just shot first. You see the guy's head turn and then he is down. Also, the person who called in the shooter to 911 has been accused by many of 'swatting' the guy. If I was the family of the dead guy I would be trying that avenue of relief by going after him. Didn't watch the video, but do you expect the police to allow him to shoot first?
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 17, 2014 -> 02:40 PM) What do you do if somebody's cell phone is not on vibrate and rings? That's just rude behavior whether the student is paying for education or not. If I was a teacher I wouldn't be able to stop myself from saying how rude that student was at that moment. Or is that cause for teacher suspension by the administration? You think a teacher could conceivably be suspended for telling a student that they're rude? What kind of soft-ass world do you live in?
  16. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 5, 2014 -> 03:20 PM) Personally I think that was when the show jumped the shark. I watch and like the show but it really took something out of it that they were not able to replace. It had a wow effect but it had no positive impact on advancing the show. It was an overreaction to the (correct) fan reaction to all of the previous seasons. Fans were getting upset that they refused to kill off any of the popular characters when it would flow naturally with the plot. Instead, they would have a ridiculous swerve at the end of every season where they basically just hit the reset button right back to how things were at the beginning of the season. I had given up before this part, though. I swore I'd stop watching if they did it again and they proceeded to do the whole . As to Boardwalk Empire, I'm disappointed that we won't get to see the Rothstein assassination and maybe a couple more, depending on exactly when they pick up the series in 1931. But, they also might cover it in a flashback.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 02:43 PM) This Stephen Colbert guy is not funny nor is he talented. These ISIS bastards are brutal and I don't find it terribly funny what they've been doing. His jokes and delivery are not entertaining. Did you see England has issued a "severe" terror threat at home? These ISIS guys are so brutal it's beyond belief. https://screen.yahoo.com/popular/isis-panic...00660.html?vp=1 Wrong on both counts, but I'm guessing this isn't the first time you've been told that.
  18. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 25, 2014 -> 01:25 PM) I remember that from history books in school. There's a movie about the split Roman Empire out there. They had two popes and two emperors. That's why there are Orthodox and Roman Catholics. They split the entire early Christian world in half. The maps encompassed much more than just the schism, though.
  19. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 12:44 PM) 40 maps that explain the Roman Empire http://www.vox.com/2014/8/19/5942585/40-ma...he-roman-empire Between that and opening a new Wikipedia page from something I read in almost every map, I spent about 1-2 hours on it yesterday.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 12:05 PM) The facts will never be out there. So many versions of the "facts" are out already that literally anyone can paint any version of the story they want and be right based on the "facts". I'm about 100% positive there's more that'll be out sooner or later.
  21. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 11:53 AM) In a perfect world, to me, they would have waited another few seconds or a few more feet. Again, it was a shoot first response, which doesn't seem entirely appropriate. I'm not even sure they warned him first. They just kept saying stop. Ha, you don't have to say "stop or I'll shoot". The order is enough. It could help to say it, or it might not.
  22. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 11:51 AM) Cops don't get paid well enough to take risks with crazy assholes on the street. I don't particularly care for police officers, to be completely honest. But I certainly don't expect them to mess around with the lunatics they encounter on a daily basis. Love you, too, shack
  23. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 22, 2014 -> 11:50 AM) When he was teenager, my cousin was pretty prone to rage and fighting with his parents. In one incident, he threatened his dad with a knife, and I think he had already hit him a few times. Police were called, but weapons weren't drawn. They talked him down out of his rage and ultimately left with a "boys will be boys" shrug because his parents didn't want to press any charges. I don't know how things would have turned out if the police rolled up and immediately pointed guns at him, but I can only think that it would have increased the chances of something awful happening. Maybe, I don't know. It's a case by case situation, but the officer would never be unjustified in having his weapon out in those situations.
