QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 04:35 PM) I think the fact that it is "found footage" ruins it for a lot of people. I like the movie, but I understand. If you are running around when a massive creature is destroying the city around you, dropping off some sort of lice/creatures that will kill you, are you going to run around continuously filming? I liked the after credits scene, but I dont think Abrams is going to do anything with it I would've liked it more had they given more of a backstory on the creature (which would be tough with the format they chose). But I just looked it up, and they have a relatively detailed description on Wikipedia. The creators had a backstory, but didn't include it in the movie. It basically covers everything, besides how it got on Earth in the first place.

Does anyone else think the allegations against Jong-un's uncle are fabrications by their government, or have I seen too many movies? The fact that he's already executed and that he was considered the second-most-powerful person over there is was made me think it.

But do they start enforcing the rule that catchers can't block the plate before having the ball? If not, this creates a huge double standard. The catcher can stand right in the way with impunity, knowing that the runner will have to go out of his way or be penalized.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 07:07 AM) He still spends two years from age 16-18 more or less in isolation in this treatment facility, where he won't be able to drink, drive, or see any of his friends. Plus, his parents are out nearly a million bucks, when it really does seem like they are root of the problem. Plus, he's still on probation until he's 26 so he has to be very careful afterwards or he's going to get a prison term anyway. I'm not sure I buy their rationale as a legal defense, but the sentence isn't as light as it sounds. He killed four people. It's exactly as light as it sounds.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 09:03 AM) I have no problem with the catcher getting run over if they are blocking the plate. It is when the catcher is in front of the plate or barely covering it and the runner aims for the catcher instead of trying to score that I don't like. But if they are going to ban collisions, they had better start enforcing no blocking of the plate without the ball or runners are going to start coming in spikes up. This.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 10:45 PM) I think Whole Foods may be buying the Dominick's in the West Loop. It won't be Mariano's, unless they want 2 stores within 200 feet of each other. On Halsted?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 11:25 PM) I'm assuming there are quite a few people who haven't seen the movie...so if I wrote more specifically, then it would get a bit confusing or I would be including multiple spoilers if you're not familiar with actual/real life case that the movie is based upon. http://www.forbes.com/sites/kylesmith/2013...or-oscar-grant/ Oh, the guy's NAME is Oscar Grant. It looked to me like you were saying something about an Academy Awards grant or something.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 07:04 PM) After doing a bit of research on the conflicting reports about what ACTUALLY happened in the Fruitvale Station/Oscar Grant situation...I think there's just no way it can win an Oscar in one of the major categories. It will definitely get some nominations, though. (Yes, the same exact debate has taken place about movies like Argo and Zero Dark Thirty, but there were 3 key plot points that the director admittedly added from out of thin air to create sympathy for and humanize the subject of the film.) I don't even understand what you're saying.

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 11:14 AM) Wish it would have worked out better for the Phillies, it felt like such an abrupt end. Still, what a pitcher. Definitely the Blue Jays FOTF. FOTF? -
Ah, then yes, that's a valid comparison.

I honestly don't know how some of you guys keep up the pace. I started out strong, but then faded huge in the stretch. Probably took me 5 years to get those last few thousand posts, I just hung around long enough to piece it together slowly. I'm like the Fred McGriff or Craig Biggio of posting. Balta and SS2K5 are like Rose and Ripken.

Thanks, everyone. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 7, 2013 -> 08:14 PM) In your honor, I will send you a poorly fashioned cane with an inscription of your 20,000th post. Haha! The good old days. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Dec 8, 2013 -> 12:00 PM) I feel like he got his 10,000th post the same way Ricky Davis got a triple double in the NBA. No idea what this means, though.

ARod suspended for entire 2014 season
Milkman delivers replied to Balta1701's topic in The Diamond Club
I'm sure that basically every clean player in that era WANTED to bring it to light. Not sure of the exact pressures on them to not do so, but it had to be an overwhelming and just disheartening feeling. -

QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 7, 2013 -> 11:33 AM) Andro hardly did anything and was legal at the time. I would guess that McGwire was using actual steroids and had the Andro around as a distraction as if to say "I got huge like this legally" I'm pretty sure I made that same argument years ago -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 7, 2013 -> 09:58 AM) No they weren't. Don't forget that Houston is in the AL now too. Haha, holy s***! I actually forgot about that. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2013 -> 12:35 PM) If you let the player choose if there is a tie, and at $20 million, every stud player will have a tie, nothing is going to change except the fee will be lower. If you go by reverse order, if a guy is coming out, the race could be on to be the worst in baseball in August and September. That could get ugly. I think they should break out the ping pong balls and have a lottery with all the teams tied participating. +1
