QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 27, 2012 -> 01:20 PM) I think people are being overly pessimistic on this team. I don't expect them to win just 70 games. I also don't expect 95 wins. This team could win anywhere from 85-88 games and will probably fall somewhere closer to that 78-82 win range. Just my humble opinion. So you're saying that they can max out at 88 wins? I don't think that qualifies as "shocking the division" at all. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Mar 27, 2012 -> 01:35 PM) I'm not sure that I want to hear any talk from players about how we've got everybody just where we want 'em after a season where they finished 16 games out of first place with essentially the same team minus Buehrle and Santos. I think a good rule of thumb for the next two months is just play. Sox attendance has steadily gone down year after year since 2006 (which granted got a bump from the 05 World Series win) and is down 20% from '08 which was the last time we won the division. Enough talk. Just play. Agreed.

QUOTE (TitoMB @ Mar 27, 2012 -> 12:41 PM) So does this line him up to make his annual 4/20 start (do we even play on 4/20 this year?)? EDIT: Yes, we play on 4/20! I'm not sure what you mean. He always starts on that date? I don't recall that joke at all.

Danks and Floyd still available?

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Mar 27, 2012 -> 10:36 AM) Even Booney "Two-Toes" Clark, the best Hawk's ever seen at running halfway to second on a fly ball with 1 out!?!?!? I s*** you not, I had to Google that person to see if he was real. It honestly could have been a story mentioned by Hawk. -
I have a theory, and I hope I don't offend any of you guys. Jenksismyb****:TV shows::danman31:movies::TheCritic:wrestling I think you are all the same crotchety old man. I might be one of you as well.

Balta, that sounds awesome. QUOTE (danman31 @ Mar 27, 2012 -> 02:59 PM) I just saw it a couple days ago as well. I thought it was OK, but the soundtrack and the opening credits gave it too much of an 80s feel. It was very strange and seemed to be too dominant. I could see it being much better as a book because it's probably better not to actually see 'Driver.' Reading about him constantly being referred to as Driver would add to the mystery of him. I thought he was more of a characteristic personified than an actual person and weird things like that work better written. What do you mean?
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 27, 2012 -> 06:23 AM) That was incredibly confusing.

I watched Drive yesterday, thought it was really good. The soundtrack and the font of the title sequences gave it an odd feel, though. EDIT: It seemed to be over pretty quickly, which was a good and bad thing. It didn't drag at all, but it felt like it could have been more enjoyable if it were longer. I have to agree that Albert Brooks was awesome and seems to have been snubbed for an Oscar nomination. His character was a lot more complex than he seemed in the trailers.

QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 25, 2012 -> 07:32 AM) I'll see it if the reviews are good. I just don't see the need for a reboot so fast. There was like a 15 second teaser for the last Twilight movie in our showing. I let out a quiet rasberry and got some laughs, a la George Costanza, from the people around me. Again, that's the same thing we were all saying about First Class, and that was awesome. I also hope you went out on a high note with that joke.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 25, 2012 -> 01:44 AM) Yeah, she wasn't too attractive in the movie, but when I looked her up...damn. She's much better looking when blonde. Have you seen X-Men: First Class? I think she makes Rebecca Romijn look like crap in comparison.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 25, 2012 -> 12:36 AM) Maybe it's better to read the book afterwards. Everything in the movie seems a bit stale and repetitive if you've already read the books. It's always better to use your own imagination when reading the book...if you see the movie, it's hard not to imagine Jennifer Lawrence, Stanley Tucci, Elizabeth Banks and Lenny Kravitz in those roles. I know that kind of goes against the idea of reading the book 2nd, but it would definitely have made the movie a lot more interesting if I didn't know exactly what was going to happen in advance, particularly the ending (and I suppose that's true for any book adapted into a movie). For example, the girl from District 11 is played by a young African-American girl. Even if it's subtle, it changes the perceptions based on the choice of actors for certain parts. Once again, there's this "Magic Negro" element, where the black person brings companionship and insight and perhaps makes the hero look better in the process. Maybe everything is too politicized these days, and politically correct. Or maybe it's because having Zoe Saldana in the co-hero role in Avatar was refreshing, but again, the Na'vi people were essentially saved in the end by the white guy. Earlier in the movie, there's a "news highlight/footage" reel and one of the most brutal killers, I think the one who used a brick as his weapon, is African-American, too. Maybe it's because of this whole Treyvon Martin thing that's causing me to look harder for something that's not there, at least not intentionally. I love you, Caulfield, but you are the king of tangents.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 24, 2012 -> 07:42 AM) It changed? It's been the same since the show started. And by that I mean brilliant. There's obviously 90% of the story that carries over from episode to episode, and sometimes you have a single episode arc. Season 3 has been all story building and completely brilliant. Even in the pilot, the case helped build for the future. For at least the first half of season one, it was (seemingly) a procedural police drama where the main character happens to get into a draw at some point each episode. That's why I stopped watching, but apparently they started to carry over storylines as soon as I decided to give it up

I hope the surprise cameo isn't Johnny Depp, as I know that's not a surprise at all.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 24, 2012 -> 01:18 AM) Hah. I just don't like how every episode is a story within itself. I prefer shows that don't start with a story/case, and then resolve it at the end of the hour. I think my buddy told me that S3 breaks away from that structure, but I'm still a the beginning of S2. Let me just put it this way, it took me almost 3 weeks to get through 1 season. It took me about 3 days to get through the first 2 seasons of Breaking Bad, and about a week to go through the first 4 seasons of Dexter. I get to the end of each episode and I rarely find myself saying "Oh s***, what is going to happen next!". I usually just watch the show when I am bored in my apartment and want to kill some time. That's why I never got into Justified. I know it changed eventually, but I had already stopped watching by that point.

QUOTE (The Gooch @ Mar 23, 2012 -> 12:08 PM) I think Timothy Olymphant might be a little busy for that now... One two-hour finale would be doable. It's never happening, though.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Mar 23, 2012 -> 12:49 AM) So, as I was leaving Pigeon Forge, Tennessee following a four day trip with the family, we stopped at this ridiculous knife store. Anyway, I passed on a chance to buy a samurai sword for $20. Fail? Without a doubt, yes.

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Mar 21, 2012 -> 03:28 PM) It's obvious that he was sent to spy on their method of producing ballplayers. Kenny operates as stealthily as a desert breeze that quietly builds up to be a sandstorm. Haha.

Time to change Viciedo's position again
Milkman delivers replied to macsandz's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I find it pretty hilarious that this: QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Mar 21, 2012 -> 10:12 AM) I know you like to talk a lot, but this is completely disingenuous. He signed Viciedo for nothing more than that bat. He didn't sign him to "play 3rd." Despite the "axis of evil" we have one of the better fielding 3rd basemen in baseball starting. So, uh...good post. Was followed by this: QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 21, 2012 -> 10:41 AM) He was projected by Williams and his staff to be the 3rd baseman. Look at all the comments when he signed, many were referring to his strong arm and surprising level of athleticism. We had just let Juan Uribe go, and Crede was down for the count too. It wasn't until Viciedo struggled mightily at Birmingham in 2009...leading to the trade in November of 2009 for Mark Teahen to play 3B and the simultaneous move of Gordon Beckham to 2B. You're not going to find a single comment from 2008/2009 saying otherwise. If he was signed to be the primary DH, then bringing in Dunn didn't really make any sense unless KW was so smart at that point that he knew he would trade Carlos Quentin, he of the MVP ability just one year prior, yet have the foresight to know he would ditch Carlos 2 years later and open up that spot in the line-up for Dayan. THE POINT is that we had 2 great defenders in Uribe and Crede at that position...and brought in two dubious ones in Teahen and Viciedo, when clearly the defense played on the left side of the infield in 2005/2006, 2008 and 2010 (when Vizquel replaced Teahen early in the season) were common threads to our best teams in the decade. Morel wasn't drafted with the thought he would become a more important player in the organization than Viciedo or take over the starting role as soon as 2011. And, he has to prove on the diamond that he can consistently defend like Ventura, Crede, Uribe, Vizquelo or even Ramirez/Beckham, etc. He didn't do that last year, not enough to make up for his low OBP and missing power for 4 1/2 months of the season. But please show me a quote from the White Sox where THEY (and not scouts of opposing teams) viewed him more as a DH/LF/RF and presented him as such at the time of his signing. We have one of the better PROJECTED defenders at 3B, that's it, until he proves it on the field for a full season at near Gold Glove-level. -
QUOTE (farmteam @ Mar 21, 2012 -> 12:29 AM) Agreed. Quarles is spinning further and further down. And Boyd Crowder is hands down my favorite character on television. So impeccably played. I also like the Band of Brothers infusion the show has going on right now. There's Quarles (Neal McDonough, who played Lt. Buck Compton), the US Attorney (Rick Gomez, who played George Luz) and Jed (not sure the actor's name, but he was Skip Muck in Band of Brothers). Maybe Ron Livingston or Damian Lewis will randomly show up. So, Justified:Band Of Brothers::Sons Of Anarchy:Deadwood?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 20, 2012 -> 09:46 PM) $20 is a lot for a movie, but that includes free popcorn, a comfier seating area, and free valet service, as well as the ability to buy drinks during the whole flick. Does that mean unlimited "free" drinks are part of the $20, or you just have the ability to buy a drink and get free refills, not sure I quite understand that last part... 60 positive, 6 negatives now...91 rating for THG, but wow, some of the negative reviews were really scathing...seems like there's no middle ground on this picture, other than the admiration for Jennifer Lawrence's continued evolution as a young actress I believe he means alcohol.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 19, 2012 -> 05:32 PM) We don't need this people to be Einsteins, we need them to be believably average and reasonable. Things normal people would not do: (1) remove a zombie well with a human attached to a rope after just hearing that there were 4 other perfectly fine (and zombie free) wells on the property (2) never leave the group without telling someone where you are going; or, in the case of Lori, never ask 2 people to go look for your husband and then two seconds later leave on your own to find him....and wreck your car in the process. (3) as someone else said - don't drive a) a repeatedly broken RV, and b) a loud as s*** motorcycle (little gas tank! no protection! very loud!) (4) allow a kid to continue to wander about without knowing where he is 24/7, ESPECIALLY after the other kid in the group just got killed because she wandered off (5) turn off the RV and head towards the door in the middle of a zombie attack These are just a few examples of completely moronic and completely unbelievable acts performed by these characters. Badger pretty much already covered this, but I'm going to come at it from a different angle. These people are under enormous amounts of duress/stress/fear/pressure/whatever you want to call it. When people are acting under those circumstances, they make decisions that are incredibly stupid in retrospect. They're not capable, equipped, or trained to act calmly in these situations.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 19, 2012 -> 03:59 PM) This goes way beyond the show, so it's not even a legit gripe of mine, but I always wondered how the zombies end up eating humans. I mean, zombies at some point were humans that got turned by other zombies right? So, how are any of them walking around if they're eaten to bits (ala the dude in the RV or the Otis' wife)? Or, if you say that they just eat them for a while (hence all the gaping holes and whatnot), why would a blood thirsty zombie stop if it (1) wants brains and (2) never gets full. But yes, the running/walking zombie thing is another "rule" this show has set up and broken many times in the series, depending on the writers' need at the moment. People who get bit once and get away. People who die of natural causes and become zombies. Those are two examples right there.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 19, 2012 -> 01:22 PM) Because (imo) thats not really relevant to Lori's state of mind. At first I thought Lori would be okay with it because Shane was forcing Rick's hand. But when I saw her reaction, I began to think she was feeling responsible for the whole debacle. Had she not pressed the issue with Shane and Rick, its likely that would not have been the result. But Lori had to keep messing with both of them. I think Lori was more on the fence about Rick/Shane, based on last night I almost wondered if she wanted Shane to kill Rick. That'd be an interesting route. And it'd somehow make Lori even less likeable.
