  1. QUOTE(JimH @ May 23, 2005 -> 01:49 PM) Just to stir this pot, any chance Konerko's comments were made tongue in cheek and this board is overreacting? Since this isn't the first time PK has called out a teammate, then I don't think we're overreacting at all. And about there being an unwritten rule, if one actually exists, it gets broken a hell of a lot.
  2. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ May 23, 2005 -> 01:24 PM) Read only part of the thread but Uribe's play was a baseball play and Konerko should either shut his mouth or take it to kangaroo court and keep it private. Konerko is overplaying his hand here. It wasn't a dirty play and he shouldn't be trying to cause trouble with his tenuous hold on a roster spot beyond 05. It's not tenuous, he's all but gone. No way we pay him what he's going to want. He's not even worth the 8 mil we're giving him. I think we'll see Durazo, Huff, or a minor leaguer at 1B next year.
  3. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ May 23, 2005 -> 01:18 PM) It will be a feast of s*** spread across golden tables for their family & friends to consume! Nice, I honestly laughed out loud at that.
  4. QUOTE(Steve Bartman's my idol @ May 23, 2005 -> 01:14 PM) Remember a couple of years back, when I can't recall who the pitcher was, faked to 3rd and thru to 1st to pick off Mark Grace, I can't believe our pitcher deceived Grace like that either. Sean Lowe, I believe. And to answer LosMediasBlancos, I assume the media interviewed PK after the game and that's when he made his statement.
  5. QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 23, 2005 -> 12:54 PM) But that doesn't quite answer the most important question... WILL THEY EAT s***?!? That's a dumb question. They will, of course, partake in the eating of s***, just as the long line of s***-eaters in whose tracks they follow.
  6. QUOTE(gettysburg32 @ May 23, 2005 -> 12:54 PM) Oh well, no big deal either way, Paulie should've kept his mouth shut, and obviously Ozzie doesn't give a f*** how the media spins anything. Couldn't this hurt the team chemistry? The team leader calls out another member for helping the team with a trick that is used a lot in baseball. The last thing they need is to hurt the chemistry. IMO, Pauly was way off in his statement.
  7. QUOTE(rangercal @ May 23, 2005 -> 12:51 PM) If that play were in a disney baseball movie it would have been ok. And they'd call Danny Glover a genius.
  8. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ May 23, 2005 -> 12:45 PM) Ouch! I like Konerko and everything, but it's true. He can hit homers and that's about it. He's the slowest runner I've seen in my life, he doesn't hit for average really, and he's good, at best, in the field. He's already making $8 million, he's clearly going to want more. This team can't afford to waste about 1/7 or more of its payroll on him. I think Pierzynski is the team leader of the future.
  9. QUOTE(HSC's Biggest Fan @ May 23, 2005 -> 12:40 PM) Has anyone seen a quote from Uribe on this? My feeling is that he actually thought it was foul. Anyway what is wrong with doing what he did???? Nothing. This kind of thing happens all the time in baseball. I'm mad that Konerko opened his mouth. He probably realizes he isn't getting re-signed after this year. He'll want too much money and we won't give a one-dimensional player that much.
  10. http://www.suntimes.com/output/cubs/cst-spt-cub23.html Konerko is the leader of this team, we all know that. Should he have said this in the media or in private? The thing about rocks kind of sounds like he's saying that he is trying, but Uribe isn't and is just playing dirty. What does everyone else think about this?
  11. QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 23, 2005 -> 12:18 PM) Are you serious? Look at his game log. In 17 outings, Vizcaino has given up a run or more in 9 of them. That is awful. Well...yeah...b-b-but...he didn't give up a run in 8 of the outings.
  12. QUOTE(Southside hitmen @ May 23, 2005 -> 12:03 PM) That pitch that Viz gave to Dubois would have been an out in any other stadium... Im not going to blame the guy for a wind blown homerun.. I guess Prior sucks as well since he gave up 3 homeruns yesterday... some of fans on this site are a bunch of crybabies... Exactly what Jabroni said. This guy has sucked consistently all year, so let's cut him another break.
  13. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 23, 2005 -> 11:58 AM) As far as bullpen arms go, Baj and Jenks could both close some innings in relief for the big club. You really think Jenks is ready? Everything I've heard says that he's going to need a year or two in the minors.
  14. QUOTE(TheDybber @ May 23, 2005 -> 11:47 AM) I wasn't suggesting Crede, I was just saying they could use an upgrade at 3B. Just an observation. and he's not THAT much better, depends what they are looking for. Remember, Ensberg didn't have a home run until late July/early August last year. He's batting .301 with a .404 OBP with 8 homers and 21 RBI on a team that, I believe, has had a struggling offense this year. Even if his numbers are inflated and he doesn't have as much pop in his bat as Crede, I'd take him in a heartbeat over Joe. I don't know anything about his defense, though.
  15. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 23, 2005 -> 03:44 AM) It hasn't even been 2 months of the season, and you've already made your mind up about Vizcaino. He's a flyball pitcher, who gave up a routine fly ball today, that got caught in the wind for a homer. Right now his lefty splits (which was the main reason we got him) suck. But last season, they were some of the best in the LEAGUE for a righty. He's not going to be this bad, all season long. One thing on him though, he may have a bit of a dead arm. Last year, pre All - Star 2.88 ERA in 40.2 IP, post all - star 4.88 ERA in 31.1 IP. Just something to consider. Borch can hit the ball hard. Yeah, about once in every 20 AB's. .188 AVG in Charlotte this season with a 53/12 K/BB ratio says he won't make it, at least not with us. Vizcaino was bad two years ago, there is actually reason to believe he'll return to those kinds of numbers. How long are we supposed to wait for him? It's been 1 1/2 months, and he looks just as bad as he did in the beginning. We can't continue to let him hurt us the way he has. The team needs to look for an in-house answer, and if one can't be found, make a trade.
  16. QUOTE(TheDybber @ May 23, 2005 -> 11:34 AM) Actually, they could use an upgrade over Ensberg at 3B. Joe Crede? Seriously, how is Ensberg defensively? I know he's much better offensively than Crede.
  17. QUOTE(Wedge @ May 23, 2005 -> 11:14 AM) Additionally, you have to figure that Berkman and Biggio are in the absolute twilight of their careers and that Clemens won't be there next year. I think you mean Bagwell and Biggio are in the twilight of their careers. Berkman is only 29.
  18. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ May 22, 2005 -> 09:07 PM) Unless someone pitches piss poor, BMac isn't staying with the team. How would you classify Vizcaino's pitching? I would call it piss poor.
  19. QUOTE(qwerty @ May 22, 2005 -> 05:58 PM) This has nothing to do with this but anyway... How many games had Maddux won at that point?
  20. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 22, 2005 -> 05:51 PM) IEDIT: And Jason, how about Polanco for Crede and Vizcaino... Or, Polanco + a reliever. Oh man, that would be sweet. Do you really think we could send them Crede, Viz, and a prospect or two for Polanco and a reliever? What reliever?
  21. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 22, 2005 -> 05:28 PM) No, cause you shouldn't lose Viz for nothing and he has no options left. Viz shouldn't be moved down. If they are going to do something with Viz they better trade him. His season thus far has been nothing like he has pitched for most of his career. Although I guess when you look at his stats a bit more closely he only had 2 good years, last year and than in 2002. But the Sox have the best record in baseball, a month from now, than it may be time to move Viz and add a new reliever. I understand your point, but how long are we supposed to wait for him to figure it out? It's been two months, and he's still garbage. Maybe we should somehow see how Baj will do before we decide on Viz. If Bajenaru sucks and Viz gets better, we keep him. If Bajenaru sucks and so does Viz, we package Viz for someone else. If Bajenaru does well, we do whatever we can with Viz. No matter what, we have to start looking at alternatives. I don't see any signs of him putting it back together.
  22. QUOTE(rangercal @ May 22, 2005 -> 05:28 PM) That's what I'm leaning towards Seems like the only logical choice to me. Walker has had no use here. Viz just has been sucking like no other. Timo may have friends, but he's of much less use than Willie and Ozuna.
  23. Can everyone at least agree that it should be a combination of Walker, Timo, and Vizcaino?
  24. Now it looks like the loss might hurt us. You would think that Ozzie and KW would smarten up and send Viz to the minors, but the more I think about it, the more I know Ozzie will trot LV out against the Angels the first chance he gets.
  25. I'm happy, too. I can think of another positive: maybe Ozzie and KW realize how bad Viz is and send him to the minors. That's be a huge positive. The starting staff is solid (especially with McCarthy backing everyone up!) The hitters are finally here The bullpen is solid, minus Viz (Cotts isn't great, but he is perfect for mop-up duty) Get rid of Viz and hopefully Baj can help, then we're set.
