Another White Sox / Blue Jays trade on the horizon?
Milkman delivers replied to striker's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 5, 2012 -> 11:55 AM) I'd rather gamble that productive pitchers will remain productive than trade them now and regret it by June. This is the most helpful tip I can give, and I'm not trying to be sarcastic or condescending at all. Forget 2012. Look at it as though it will be a losing season (it will). We need to look past 2012. -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 5, 2012 -> 11:31 AM) Im not saying Nash would win, but he was in great shape at TLC last month. He is really lean. Im sure Warrior would eat his face and then cry out to the Sun god Good for Nash, if that's the case. I haven't watched wrestling in a long, long time. -

QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 5, 2012 -> 11:45 AM) But thing about that is, you can't trade Rios, Dunn, or Peavy. And they probably won't move Konerko or Pierzynski either. So this "rebuild" is a multi-year process. The way I see it, they currently have 5 starting pitchers that can go out and put up a quality start. I think they should try to win with the 5 starters, and see if the Dunn, Rios, and Beckham bats come around. If they do hit, they would regret moving a Floyd and Crain and/or Thornton out of the pen. There's no real good reason to make any more significant moves until July unless they get overwhelmed with something. Or the guys we could possibly trade (Floyd, Crain, Thornton, etc.) suck in 2012 and have no trade value at the deadline. We have to stick to the plan. This is another reason I fear that KW will make mistakes, in order to appease the fans who think everything will turn out fine as long as one or two things work. -

Is no one else already worried that we'll only get a "project" prospect and a throw-in? QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 5, 2012 -> 11:32 AM) Couldn't some of these moves...Thornton, Crain, Floyd all happen in July just as easily and with more teams desperate to add? Call me crazy, but I think there's an outside chance the current roster can win. To me, they should give this roster a few months to play, and then if they're 6 games back in July and under-.500, trade anyone you can/want. Let's not half-ass this rebuild. Stick to it or don't, no in-between s***. -

If we're going to make three trades with the Blue Jays in one offseason, we better damn well get one of their top prospects from that combination. -

I can only imagine that Warrior would destroy Nash. The last I saw of him, he still kept himself in shape. Kevin Nash, being an aging and lanky (which is no longer to his advantage with his injuries) old man, would likely get dismantled by an aging, in-shape, mobile man. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 5, 2012 -> 10:49 AM) Fred Armisen is hilarious. Agreed. I've liked him ever since Anchorman.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 5, 2012 -> 09:21 AM) Peavy has a $17 million salary, plus a $4 million buyout due after this season. So in other words if you get to the middle of the season and want to trade, the team aquiring him will owe Peavy $11.5 million for just the last half of the season. That is a ton of money. He would have to be back to his Cy Young numbers, and have no injuries at all to have anyone even think about it without getting a bunch of cash, or a bad contract, included in the deal. Wouldn't it only be $10.5 million? A measly $10,500,000? -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 5, 2012 -> 09:40 AM) It could be as simple as Dunn didn't really talk about it, or he asked people to not write about it. Who knows. Given a choice between Dunn asking people not to mention it with every media person doing it/not mentioning it once, and it being bulls***, I'll take the latter every single time. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 5, 2012 -> 08:07 AM) It is very dangerous and risky. The national team sends armed "protectors" with them anywhere they go. Players are supposed to be escorted everywhere, especially if they are alone or in small groups. If the Cuban government even suspects you might try to defect they will kick you off of the traveling teams for sure. If you try to defect and fail you will be taken out of baseball, and your family will be blacklisted. If you succeed and leave your family behind, they still face retribution from the government. It really isn't pretty. You sure this line of thought isn't incredibly outdated? I know it USED to be that way, but guys seem to defect with regularity now. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jan 5, 2012 -> 08:12 AM) But Alexei made just over $1 million in his first year and Iguchi made just over $2 million. Cespedes will be making probably over $10 million in his first year. Alexei and Iguchi were never All-Star-level players, just solid ones. And for what Cespedes will make, you can't afford for him to provide just league-average offense. And as we saw Alexei and Iguchi peaked in their first years, too. Alexei peaked in his first year? -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 5, 2012 -> 08:02 AM) Starting to put together the picture of his 2011 is interesting. We know the guy had an emergency appendix surgery his first week in Chicago. Add to that the struggles of having a sick son from the reports, plus seeing the Joe and Oney tweets about Dunn being one of the worst guys that Ozzie managed (along with Swisher and Lee). Then add in the switch to DH, which Frank Thomas struggled with himself, (and spoke at length about the difficulties during this season) and you have a short of perfect storm for a really bad season. Maybe it is just the homer side in me, but I really wonder how poised he is for a big bounce back season. He has a manager that is much more easy going, a situation he is now more familiar with, a lot less pressure and expectations, plus it sounds like his kid is better. Hopefully it all works out. Wasn't that really just one guy on this site who "heard" something? -

I would love to see Rios have a great year in 2012, just to see the same people calling for a trade of him at all costs then want to keep him because he's a proven producer and winner. -

How easy is it for these guys to defect? It seems like there are about 5 or more famous Cuban baseball players getting out every year. It reminds me of the Canadian Alcatraz on Family Guy. -

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 4, 2012 -> 01:01 PM) So you are saying KW purposely passed on significantly more value to make this particular trade? Because two "so-so minor league pitchers" is what KW got for Quentin as you said. If that isn't the true value of Quentin, then he must have passed on better trades right? That's what your saying? The reasons KW dealt Quentin are irrelevant to his value. He's worth what is right now because of his current abilities and expected production, not what players like Dunn & Rios are being paid. Your problem here has nothing to do with a lack of statistics, but simply not using basic logic to walk through the scenario. Quentin is worth very little due to his own doing and no one else's. Why is this so hard for you accept? Ouch -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 02:35 PM) The best chance at them getting back to any kind of a value is by playing them. If we are already accepting that we have no chance in 2012, we should be playing Dunn, Peavy, and Rios every day in the hopes that they become tradeable pieces again. If you move even one of those guys, or they recover back to their career norms, that is way better than them rotting payroll on the bench. The benching them for three years idea is just as bad as releasing them. You've taken quite the extreme. I'm not going to attempt to argue against it, as that is not what I said. -
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 02:02 PM) I guess my point would be that Keanu Reeves has never had a performance anywhere near as good as Farrell's in "In Bruges". In order to pull off that role he has to have some acting chops. And yeah: "In Bruges", "Ed Wood" and "Sweet Smell of Success" are my 3 favorite all time movies in no particular order, that's how good that movie was, IMO. I like all of those movies, but that is a rather eclectic list.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 3, 2012 -> 01:46 PM) Not to mention no one else in the history of baseball has ate that much in contracts. Give it up people. Dunn and Rios are here to stay. Nobody is saying to trade or release them (minus elrock). Just saying that we should play them less until they earn the spot back. -
