QUOTE(bmags @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 04:27 PM) i would say its most sports COLUMNISTS are aweful, many of the people who just cover the games are rather good at what they do. fair enough.

I spent a season around sportswriters in a Big College Sports town, and I have spent a lot of time reading and watching sports journalism. All I have to say is that most sports journalists are awful.

I made an image for our Playoff Staff.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 16, 2005 -> 07:06 PM) That was pretty f***in good when the 2nd baseman has to go to his left like that and fire it over there, that's damn hard. Bruntlett turned it so f***in fast. With Sanders and Mabry running though...

QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Oct 16, 2005 -> 06:57 PM) OHH MY GODDD Holy s*** Astros with a remarkable ending. I thought it was a pretty standard double play, not as spectacular as Fox is trying to convince us it was.

a little image I just created for Game 5.

when was the last time 3 straight starters pitched 8+ innings in the playoffs?

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 01:11 PM) I would blame Crosby because he is the centerfielder, and he is supposed to take charge in that situation and let Sheffield know it was his ball if he was going for it. The CF is supposed to be the vocal leader in the OF. Tough play thouugh, boths guys were going full steam ahead. I read that the Anaheim crowd was so loud that Sheff and Crosby couldn't hear eachother.

QUOTE(Wedge @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 11:47 AM) OK, this has been pissing me off for a bit. What about 5 1/3 IP 3 ER is an incredible outing? It's definitely not even a quality start. If you are talking about what the media is saying, I think it is deserved. A young rookie pitches 5 1/2 innings in relief in an elimination game. It is pretty incredible, how excited would you be if that happened to Chicago and Buehrle went out in the 1st and McCarthy came in and sacked up like that.
-
Agreed. It is pretty incredible that Marte has had so much success as a reliever with his fragile personality.

I guess I don't see the problem. Atleast they have something unique and original, there is something to say about that. Also, it makes a lot of noise. They also drew 3.4 million fans, so I don't think the fans or the team is complaining. I also find it ironic that a White Sox fan is telling other fans how to act.

I'm in Madison and would love to buy your tickets from you. Problem is I pulled an all nighter watching Season 3 of Six Feet Under and I'm not sure if I can get a hold of my friend in Chicago I could go with in time and drive down there in time.

God Damn it, I have Kickball Wed nights, so I was hoping it would be a day game.

Regarding "Bartman" and the Red Sox comeback. The reason those moments are memorable is because they weren't predictable. The Propability of Marlins and Red Sox winning those games was very low, not impossible. I don't see how those games are examples of stats failing, but examples of teams winning against the odds (as the stats say). I'm not against looking at potential, talent, intangibles etc when looking at baseball. On the other hand, people will claim that sabermetrics is useless. All of you use BA, ERA, splits, etc to help predict future possiblities. Even WHIP is a sabermetrically created # that is used. Stats simply point to the likelihood of something, not what IS going to happen. It is nothing to be scared of.

It was the end of an era. Before 1919, the White Sox were one of the most successful franchises. Since the scandal...well, everyone here knows about the trouble. Also, the 1919 team is the most famous team in White Sox history. I mean, lets face it: None of us believe in the curse, and that is realist thinking. Realist thinking also tells you that this is one of the sorriest franchises in sports. I still love them, but that is the truth. So, I think there is something to say when the most famous team is infamous.

I know we won't know for sure, but what are the possible dates for the ALCS games. I plan on going, but I have a NIN concert I have tickets for on Oct 13 and a 4 year anniversary with my girlfriend on Oct 12.

Idea> Find footage of Opposing Pitchers having Home Runs hit off them and turning around to watch the ball leave the park. Use "Total Eclipse of the Heart" as the song

How are you planning to watch the potential clinch

I'll have to miss it. I'll be at the Brewer game. #1 White Sox Make Playoffs #2 Brewers finish over .500 -
I don't see how El Duque can come in from the Bullpen...I think his warmup routine is just way too long. BMac has proven this year he can come out of the bullpen. So he gets the nod. I definitely keep Harris on the team....his defense is better than Blums and he can pinch run. Two very important aspects of Playoff Baseball. also, Perez hasn't played in a long time...so maybe he won't even make the playoff roster. Who knows.

Since his 2 home run game against Seattle, Anderson has started 2 games. EDIT: For Comparison, since his 2 home run game against Minnesota, Everett has started 109 games with a .238/.304/.402 line.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 04:50 PM) Funny how all those people talking about how overrated McCarthy was are pretty much the same ones now calling for McCarthy to start over El Duque. Of course, I agree that McCarthy should start, but I thought this was a good post (qwerty's). I'm guilty. I was really excited about him during Spring Training and then I wasn't impressed with him during his first call up. Now, I'm extremely impressed. I was clearly wrong. Although to be fair, he didn't show much in the first half of the year for me to remain excited and prospects can go bad very quickly. I kind of hope El Duque gets lit up on Saturday, so we don't have to see him starting in the playoffs.

Hawk & DJ sound about as exciting & enthusiastic as this team.
