  1. This is still pretty woeful.
  2. Avisail Garcia is not worth 2.5 years of Jake Peavy. He's not even worth a half season of Jake Peavy. 3 middling prospects doesn't swing the deal back in our favor either. Failure of a trade for the Sox simply because we should've gotten more or just kept Peavy. Detroit is a massive winner in this, they dumped an overrated bum (that they know is overrated) on a division rival, shored up their IF defense and ensured they dont have to face Jake Peavy a bunch of times the next few seasons. Pretty damn smart.
  3. There's maybe 3 cars made in the USA right now that I would spend my money on. Besides, our president made the forward-thinking move of scrapping a huge chunk of the used car market right before a massive spike in gas prices and a huge recession so its not like anyone pays attention to that s*** anyways.
  4. You cannot go anywhere in London without being filmed. The Watchful Eye. Its basically 1984, they get spied on in the UK more than we do. In any case, I dont get in the business of comparing the US to other countries. It's just stupid, you really want to go as far as to say the US is as violent a place as Lebanon? Stats have this habit of blinding our common sense, particularly when you're comparing countries' on opposite sides of the world. Sorry for misunderstanding your original post.
  5. You actually look at the past 30 years and say we were more conservative then than we were before? Then blame the past 30 years for you bad statistics. I mean even if I dont believe policy really has an effect on class mobility that much. Fostering laziness does, and I guess policy can do that, but that's a cultural problem as well that we cant legislate so its ignored.
  6. On a Civic? If you its an automatic you'll have to rebuild the transmission, if its standard you wont. The things last forever (250k before things start going wrong IIRC was my quote). It also gets like 50 mpg. But you say poor burger flippers deserve to have a minimum wage that accounts for a brand-spakin'-new car. I think that's stupid.
  7. Alright, I have a lot of problems with this post because it is really bad. 1) When I said "big bulk" I was anticipating the # to be closer to 30%. Which I thought was a pretty incredible number, but FOURTY-f***ING-EIGHT. Holy turds. That's an unreal amount of violent crime in this country that comes from gangs. It seriously astonishes me. And then you scoff at it. I mean, wow. Implicitly stating that we really cannot solve 48% of the nation's violent crime so it doesn't matter but for as long as I've read your posts about gun control you'll go absolutely bananas over a dozen or so people getting shot by one dude in an isolated incident that happens maybe twice a year. 2) There is a really nasty assumption that can be carried with your post. Let's say gangs either just lost influence or law enforcement finally figured out a way to snuff them out. Fantasy world? Sure, but its nothing compared to the lala land you call home. 48% of violent crime !GONE! Hooray, mission accomplished! America is safe again! Right? According to you, no. You say the other 52% of violent crime is still a problem that requires addressing. And if dropping violent crime figures by 48% percent wouldn't even phase you I feel pretty safe in assuming the only true measure of success for you is no violent crime ever in the United States of America. I mean, you have no idea what that would require. First, the Bill of Rights would have to be torn up. Freedom of speech causes fights, 2A lets us own guns (TOOLS OF KILLING INNOCENT CHILDRENS OH NO) and whole bunch of amendments protect the accused, and you'd have to convict 100% of people accused of violent crimes and lock them away forever just to snuff out the repeat offender dynamic (cruel and unusual punishment). Oh, and the one that keeps soldiers from living at our homes? Kiss that goodbye too. A cop in every house, just in case someone raises a hand at someone else. Constant spying, something totally out of Sci Fi, like an army of thousands of precogs given full verdict and sentencing power with no trials or dissent. It woudn't be a free country anymore, it'd be one (very safe) but ultimately brutal place to live. But that's kind of my problem with all the liberal dream worlds, the means never seem to justify the ends. How do we fix proverty? Take away rich people's money, destroy class mobility and ruin the economy. How do we stop random acts of spree violence? Freak the f*** out and put metal detectors and security officers everywhere. It all requires this massive amount of autocratic nonsense to happen, it erodes the s*** out of what freedoms we have left in this country. If that doesn't mean anything to you that's fine. I get it, you're one of those. But I really suspect you value the rights were given here and judging by posts like the one I just read you should probably start thinking about what it would cost to free our country from all of its ills.
  8. Or this: http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/ctd/3955156294.html Which will serve anyone admirably for about $250k miles before s*** starts going wrong. Car payments are not something that should be factored into the monthly budget of the working poor, new cars are something you have to earn and not entitled to anyone.
  9. A 2013 Ford Focus which you can get for $150/mo if you're willing to learn/already know how to drive a 6 speed? Seriously? That's what someone working at McDonald's should be driving to work? If they just took the down payment for that car and bought an old Civic that $150/mo just vanishes from their monthly budget. Or they can take the goddamn bus. Unless poor people are entitled to new cars now, maybe the government will just start handing them out to the "truly needy" like they already do cell phones. I mean, how else are they supposed to get to work?!
  10. Concealed carry does not exist to keep gang members from killing each other, which is what constitutes a big bulk of the US homicide rate. Its to protect lawful citizens from criminals. It does a good job.
  11. I actually agree with you here. These are mostly just kids who are hopelessly addicted to consumerism and want more money to turn around and buy more crap with. The idea of investment in anything is foreign to them. If it costs less than $20 they'll buy it impulsively, if it costs less than $1000 they'll either save to buy it or blow their savings on it.
  12. More than offset by the $150/mo new car payment that you'd have to be an idiot to have if you're flipping burgers at the big arches.
  13. We all make mistakes, I've made tons of mistakes. Some of them with girls I've really cared about and been seeing for months exclusively where I got put in a situation I had no how to handle correctly until irreparable damage had been already been done and I blew it. Live and learn. I dont listen to female friends anymore. I dont know what it is but they always, ALWAYS seem to be wrong. I think it might have a lot to do with the way I ask them for advice, I'll often skip pieces of information and manipulate them into confirming my ideas and telling what I want to hear. They also never seem to give any sort of harsh truths, they kinda say what they think will make you happy because they want to be happy and you're usually only too happy to oblige. I personally think you got carried away thinking with your dick, and thinking with your cock is always at its worst when you dont even realize you're doing it. You'd been chasing this girl, doing mostly a good job and right when you're knocking on the door everything falls apart. Happens to just about everyone out there in the game at some time or another. You think to yourself "well I got that close, cant give up now" when the reality is you were never that close to begin with or you've been sent directly to jail without passing Go and without collecting your $200. Your dick will tell you that you really like this girl, that it could work out, that you have to get this done before you leave for college in a few weeks. Wrangle that motherf***er in, he'll only get you into trouble. And yea, social media has made things weird. I've just chosen to ignore that entire world and I go pretty far advertising how little I pay attention to what's said publicly on the internet. You dont know who the intended audience is, you start second-guessing, overthinking, and !kablooey! you're finished. Some guys clean up with Facebook, Twitter, all that other s***--I dont understand how they do it but they do it. The key thing to remember is you dont have to step into that arena if you dont want to, a lot of girls (in fact, almost all girls I've noticed) really dig a guy who looks at social networking disdainfully and choose not to participate in it.
  14. 1994 Mazda Miata, stock except for KYB adjustable shocks, an annoyingly loud exhaust (which I love) and the rollbar. I autocross it when I have time and basically am in a permanent state of epic hoonage. Go ahead, make fun of it because its gay.
  15. I put girls on ice literally all the time. I hate texting though, I cannot remember the last time I initiated some text relay with anyone other than my mother. Chillhead, if I could impart one little piece of wisdom on you is that once you've got a girl who claims to be willing to have sex with you but "just not tonight", she either wants you to be aggressive in that moment and take it (if you place a lot of value in your freedom avoid this, a legally dubious idea) or, more likely, she's playing a game. The game is pretty simple, back the f*** off and make her come to you. Be busy, or at least claim to be, next time she wants to do something. Keep her at arms length a little. Engage her? sure. Talk to her? Duh. But lay off for a little bit. She wants to make sure you aren't going to be coming on too strong, which of course you f***ing did (lol). You win the game about a week later when she's literally begging for it and you're in a position of power to govern the relationship going forward.
  16. If everyone is making $16/hr in there the profit motive for the dollar menu goes away. So does the dollar menu. The better ones are pretty quickly promoted to management positions and eventually find themselves in the corporate side of the company. You read about these McDonalds success stories a lot, and they're really quite common. Besides, lets say McDonalds fires all their bad employees (I laughed writing that)... where do those people go? I mean once fast-food has dried up there's not much lower you can sink. You could work for the government I guess, but you typically need to know somebody to make that happen and if you had those connections you wouldn't have been working at McDonalds in the first place. So now you've put those people into essentially state care, sentencing all of us to a lifetime of taxes just to subsidize their meaningless lives.
  17. Why? You agreed with me saying they dont really do anything. I mean most of us are OK with that because we grasp the point that the reason the dollar menu exists (the only reason to ever eat at McDonald's by the way) is because the worthless employees aren't paid much. But take away the low-wage employees and the dollar menu goes with it, so now we expect something more than the bare minimum from McDonalds, and those expectations are unlikely to ever be met.
  18. So you think they should all be paid more?
  19. Next time you go into the lobby of your run-of-the-mill chain fast food joint watch the employees. They just kind of mope around, haphazardly throwing together sandwiches they (nor the customer) really care about. They socialize while ignoring customers at the register, fiddle with the machines... they dont really care. I dont really care either, so its not like I'm offended when I'm buying that garbage. The only way you could really think they work hard is if you're completely foreign to the idea of physical labor and think anyone who does it in even the slightest capacity must be working hard.
  20. Well many of them are seeing enough welfare to count as a second job, and since working fast food is about the easiest job in the country (next to working for the government) why do anything better? Its much easier to b****, moan and protest about how "WE IS TREETED UNFAIRLEY JUS CUZ WE GOT NO HI SKOOL EDUCASHUN" than it is to do the minimal work necessary to better yourself enough to be liberated from a life of working at McDonalds. Minimum wage is for minimum people. That's the harsh truth, and the absolute worst our society has to offer are not entitled to considerations from the rest of us.
  21. In the early 1900's most people couldn't find jobs much better than what equates to the modern minimum wage job. Today, not so much. That excuse has evaporated.
  22. Getting a second job is probably a good start. You really shouldn't be able to sustain yourself working at McDonalds, that's a job for teenagers or people who are dependent on others. If you're trying to support yourself (or heaven forbid, others) McDonalds aint gonna work, its not supposed to, its not that kind of job. Either find a whole new job or find another to add on top of it. Dont like working 74 hour weeks? Tough s***, I dont like paying taxes, get to work.
  23. And you could also get a city where 500 people are murdered every year, like that really big one we know which happens to be the only major US city where you cannot walk around the street with a gun. The results really back up your idea, there. I'm seriously stunned that people are stupid enough to get conned into caring about this case anymore. I mean its a convenient platform for a couple big liberal activism points (racism at every corner, guns) but this gets more play than anything else happening in the world right now or over the past week. Doesn't make any sense! Stop caring! Treyvon's dead, he isn't coming back no matter how much #justice he gets and getting all pissy about Zimmerman walking is like getting mad at the White Sox for missing the playoffs this year. You already knew what was going to happen, why get so pissed when the totally expected happens? I dont get it. I will say that the constant stream of race-oriented Us vs. Them bulls*** that's been crammed into our skulls is finally getting to me. I feel myself giving less and less of a s*** about blacks in general as opposed to an earlier time when I really didn't give a s*** about anyone that much and it was pretty uniform across racial lines. This bulls*** is maddening, the idea that because a black was the victim of a crime the pillars of our legal structure that have existed for as long as this country has (double jeopardy) are openly being questioned by a black AG appointed by a black president. I'm getting sick of being OK with this s***, the mountains of welfare money disproportionately spent on blacks who commit more crimes, wind up in jail more often and graduate high school less. Some of you will call me racist just for saying that, but its the goddamn truth and I wouldn't have even gotten to this point if I wasn't bombarded almost daily with anti-white propaganda guised as "progressive tolerance initiatives". But that's kind of what happens when you create an enemy to point at for all your problems, you threaten an imaginary foe into existence.
