  1. You're assigning value to human life based on how its lost, which (at least to me) is a little f***ed up.
  2. Why? Why cant I point out the real truth here? If two teenagers wrapped a V6 Mustang around a tree and got themselves killed it wouldn't get this attention, if two 10 year olds in the cancer ward passed on the same day it wouldn't even make the news. But a couple bombs go off with similar results and we cant help but be enamored by it. I generally wouldn't care about people's reaction to this, but I think it carries a price to immerse yourself so much in these stories. We get scared and we want something to be done to make us feel more secure. So because the first two Americans to be killed by a bomb in this country since I-dont-even-know-its-been-so-long an entire city is on lockdown and people have found a whole new reason to be scared to live their lives. That's really all I wanted to say, I think someone should say it.
  3. Well yea, two of them shared the same date on purpose (Waco and OKC). I will say this, its sad that this happened but people just seem so desperate for something to be scared of or to be sad about. Two people are dead. That's about the same number of Americans that died in ways completely unrelated to this bombing in the time it took me to write this post. We cant get worked up over it. This isn't 9/11, this isn't Oklahoma City, this is not some overwhelming tragedy that should grip the nation the way it is right now. Our lives really are short and fragile, s*** like this kinda goes to prove it, so why do we ruin them being afraid of things that have an almost 0% chance of affecting us directly? I dont know. I dont get it. Hope the injured people wind up OK and they catch the guy who did it.
  4. I went to two games this week, including Opening Day. Its really not a very good time when its cold, I basically am forced to buy bleacher seats which aren't nearly as cheap and kinda suck just to stay in the sun. Come mid-May and/or June when the weather finally turns and kids are out of school and numbers will increase. Making rash judgments about April attendance is just as bad as making rash judgments about April play on the field.
  5. Yea they did. Its kinda like that Ken Burns Home poem except instead of being halfway inspiring you're just struggling to understand what the hell is being said. It sucks, I really loved the old intro. I'm going again Thursday, hopefully its back and this was some one-off for Opening Day.
  6. I just bought a car (1994 Mazda Miata HELL YEA) and came --->THIS<--- close to buying these. I ultimately chose not to because a) I would have to mail a money order to Springfield, risking a Kafkasque experience with the Mother Of All Bureaucracies and b) I had been driving for 3 days without any plates and just wanted to walk out of the DMV with some. Now that I'm all set I'll probably do this in the next few months. I did want the plates to read RAMPAGE but apparently that's taken.
  7. The new intro video at the park is pretty awful too. It's some incomprehensible voiceover that's impossible to understand, I hope it was just for Opening Day.
  8. Of course, you made up your mind a long time ago about this and aren't letting go.
  9. But nobody got hurt, except for the guy who wound up with a couple black eyes and probably a mean little headache. And notice how the guy who started the fight didn't initially come at them with the gun, his wife actually pulled hers out first when he was getting knocked around. Part of responsible gun ownership is not behaving like that when you have your weapon on you (you really shouldn't behave like that at all, but skip that point), I agree. But fights like this happen all the time and sometimes people really do get hurt, in the right spot a punch can be lethal, however once a gun was brought into the picture nobody wanted to fight anymore. The guy and his wife took off, the kids freaked out and backed off and the whole thing went from escalating like crazy to suddenly diffused. Emotions were definitely running high, the guy was so amped he (probably) accidentally discharged a round into the pavement. But he didn't shoot anyone. His wife didn't shoot anyone... even this example of a wildly irresponsible gun owner who lacks both trigger discipline and judgment didn't end up the way liberals envision every confrontation culminates to. What you should take away from this is that if that bozo didn't light anyone up then over-f***ing-whelming majority of responsible gun owners sure as hell wouldn't either.
  10. Yea totally, what tragedies have befallen us at the hands of North Korea in the past 10 years. If only things had been different, THERE COULD HAVE BEEN PEACE.
  11. Those were some savage f***ing teenagers. Look, I already know what's being said here. "HAHA p**** CANT WIN A FIGHT WITHOUT A GUN", "START A FIGHT, LOSE, THEN GET UPSET ABOUT IT AND PULL A GUN?! HAHA GUN OWNERS ARE LOSERS"... but hey when wifey came out strapped the teens stopped pummeling the dude. It ended the fight, suddenly everyone turned polite (relative to what it was before, with the punching and all) and it ended with a couple black eyes* as opposed to what could've been pretty nasty injuries considering the way that guy was getting smacked around. Guns worked, not the most ideal set of circumstances but it defused the f*** out of that situation. *Yea someone discharged a round. Looks like the dude did, that was stupid and should result in charges.
  12. That depends on your definition of waste, fraud and abuse. In your world giving a crackhead a living wage in the form of welfare checks isn't waste, others may not share that view...
  13. This game shows how poorly the tournament is seeded. Temple was seriously a f***ing 9 seed? That was one hell of a team, they play almost any other team in the country that well and they win.
  14. Oladipo just kind of righted the Indiana ship there.
  15. Of course the criminal justice system should never aim to do any of those things. They need to prosecute and sentence without regard for deterrence, public safety or minimizing the number of criminals.
  16. Might as well have just kept Urlacher and spared all the uncertainty about the locker room and pissing off the fanbase.
  17. You willfully cede your 2A right when you go out committing f***ing felonies.
  18. I've got Wichita State over Gonzaga.
  19. Let's skip for a second the idea that the Nazi's very well could've lost had we not gotten involved anyways. Or that it was a matter of when and not if we got dragged into that war (Japan had to force us out of the Pacific and unrestricted submarine warfare was going to bring us in sooner or later). Should we have invaded the USSR under Stalin? China? Mao and Stalin were worse than Hitler you know. Or would those wars have been one of those "uncomfortable" wars where all the 18 year olds on your block dont come home and you cant buy chocolate? Too much hardship to bear to save those ~80 million people. However if the government can mitigate the impact of being at war at home by borrowing money and only killing a few thousand (as opposed to a few hundred thousand) American kids it'll seem like a no-cost all-benefit joyride where we get to blow s*** up, save some people and come home rockstars. We tried it. It failed. Let them burn whats left of their "civilization" to the ground.
  20. For better or worse the guy was about as football player as they get. Tough as nails, I'll miss him a lot. Its just not going to be the same with #54.
  21. You make the choice to commit a crime. You have to live with the consequences of that choice, an it only gets worse the more crimes you commit. I know liberals hate personal responsibility and that anything bad that happens to anyone cannot possibly be that person's fault, but can we please at least keep some amount of accountability for people who make a conscious decision to harm others?
  22. We should have stopped Hitler because his ally bombed a naval base and killed a few thousand Americans. Then Hitler, the next day, declared war on us which meant inevitable U-Boat attacks on American ships. That's justification for war, being attacked and having someone else declaring war on you. Being selfless is not justification for war.
  23. World War II destroyed their cities, that was a major difference. I'm aware of other Syrians. Sucks for them, its not our responsiblity, its not our war, its not our f***ing country. They have to fix these problems themselves if they want it to get any better, it cant just be a waiting game until the US and its pets inevitably get involved. That accomplishes nothing for us and it does nothing to serve Syria's long term interests. Wah wah wah we cant stand idly by while innocent *cry cry* <holocaust reference> what if we didnt stop Hitler (help people plz). Not our job, it never has been, every time some dictators acts like a piece of s*** around the world we cant be the police officer. We cant afford it, we dont see any gain anyways so even if we could afford it wouldn't accomplish anything.
