Less than 1% of shootings in the US use fully automatic weapons. They're extremely expensive and even more difficult to properly fire. Even in the military most soldiers never go full auto, 3 round burst at the most. Those who do are using weapons that are mounted or can be quickly deployed to suppress an enemy, aka keep them pinned and hiding behind cover. They're too inaccurate and temperamental to be used or even relied on any other way. EDIT- If you're just referring to semi-automatic rifles, well, those are really no more deadly than your average handgun in one of these situations.

Because government's have never abused their power when granted a sole monopoly on the use of force, right? As for the technology disparity, that's fine. In the hypothetical SHTF scenario, having to break out Predator Drones and A-10's against American citizens means the government has already totally lost control. You're bringing phrases like "collateral damage" and "acceptable civilian casualties" we associate with Bosnia and Iraq to our homes. Nuclear weapons? I mean holy s*** if the Feds ever got so goddamn maniacal to use those against Americans wouldn't the entire argument that the government is to be trusted with those weapons moreso than private citizens go flying right out the damn door (I'm not advocating private ownership of nukes btw)? The truth is in order to keep order and maintain a facade of normalcy the government would be prohibited from using their full military capabilities, or else they'd have no country to rule. Even you guys would probably raise an eyebrow at THAT kind of response. I dont trust the government. I think that if they could they would've dissolved this whole democracy thing a long time ago and gone full fascism the instant the population became too weak to resist it. Ever heard of Operation Northwoods? I mean that isn't even crazy conspiracy s***, it got f***ing declassified. You can read the memo's online. The good news is that people in this country are armed, about 80,000,000 people here are firearm owners. I dont care what contraptions the military has, or even if they can somehow convince an army of volunteers to start occupying their own homes and bombing their own neighbors, they cannot suppress that many people with guns. Its not possible. Unless of course they can get them to give them all up willingly by telling them its "for their own safety and security" and that they "promise we wont do anything bad once were the only ones with weapons".

Im willing to give up my 2nd Amendment right as long as the government gets rid of all theirs guns. I'm not holding my breath.

Austin, which is barely Texas.
-
So someone tried to massacre some people in Texas, he didn't get too far.
-
Point stands. Modern armies with all their toys cannot occupy an armed population, dont work. I mean, when has an American military successfully occupied a country with a hostile population?

Greatest military might in the world has been stuck fighting goat herders in the mountains of Afghanistan for the past 10 years.

*driving a car on public roads You can drive a car without a license on your property to your little hearts content. Its when you take it out in public, where you are given the privilege to use state-owned roads, that your right to drive a car is limited. Same should go for guns. If you want them in your house go for it dude, but if you want to take around town in public places then you have to play by a set of rules.

Violent crime is practically non-existant [ ] I can trust the government to hold a complete monopoly on the use of force [ ] ... I can trust to government to do anything for that matter [ ] There you go, that's what would have to happen to even get me to even think this is worth debating.

I'm just not going to send my kids to public school. Teachers are spoiled rotten by their unions, they're f***ing terrible at their jobs and they clearly aren't safe. Besides, all public schools really are anymore is indoctrination centers to send kids for a life in the Democratic party (sure as hell dont teach math or science worth a damn anymore). Just forsake our broken public school system and you'll be fine.

The 1st amendment doesn't say free speech extends to the internet, wanna go to the courts to clarify that one?
-
Why cant everyone just agree with me? Why cant we just stop dissenting and let the government have all the guns, because that'll be a huge improvement.

He didn't even use the AR. It was found in the trunk. Almost never are these massacres carried out with full-auto weapons (less than 1% of firearm deaths in the US are the result of full-auto weapons). This is because the lower receiver for an AR with automatic firing capabilities is like $10,000 and requires lots of practice and training to effectively and accurately fire.

I was a victim in Lincoln Park. Got roughed up a little bit and had to give up my bag to get away (luckily escaped with my wallet). I'm hardly alone, the officers I talked to about it say they've been really busy with those kinds of attacks in their precinct. For one, if you're in the midst of a home invasion you have absolutely no time to try and analyze the situation. They could be in there just looking for s*** to steal but if you startle them or get a good look at them there's no guarantee they wont severely harm you. People deserve every right in the world to defend their property and their family when they are being targeted in their home. At the very least the presence of firearms within the home serves as a deterrent to burglary and the violence that can easily ensue if a homeowner confronts burglars. And the point I was really trying to make is that gun control enthusiasts absolutely love to point out statistics about Japan, Europe, China... whatever other country they can with tight gun control and low firearm deaths. But when it comes to looking at the same statistics across our own country, they'll make any excuse they can about why cities who violate 2nd amendment rights also suffer from the most violent crime.

Man if you DONT own a gun for home defense in Chicago you're a f***ing idiot. We are living in American Afghanistan, a city held under terror by an unstoppable onslaught of crime. When can we point out that Chicago is going to break 500 homicides this year and, BY TOTAL COINCIDENCE, also has the tightest gun control in the United States? 30 is a tragedy, 500 is a war.

Family thing. My grandfather grew up with the White Sox, my dad grew up with the White Sox, I grew up with the White Sox and my kids will grow up with the White Sox.

Henry Kissinger is too old for baseball. Seriously, I like the deal. Dude never K's and should fit nicely in the 2 hole, maybe he has to be a super sub later on in the deal, but we needed a 3B and we got one who's at least OK.

Coin toss: Seahawks win the toss, they win the game because our defense was completely exhausted and incapable of keeping up with a 24 old QB running around everywhere. Bears win the toss, they win the game because Seattle had no answer to Marshall whatsoever. The NFL's overtime rules are backwards as f***, and they dont seem to care to fix it at all.
-
I mean, did the Bears prepare at all? Did they just expect to come out and beat the 49ers just because? I don't get it.
-
The only way the Bears even sniff 17 points is if Kaepernick just starts turning it over. The offense is beyond inept.
-
Bears cannot beat good teams.

Ed Reed just got hit with a 1 game suspension for playing hard.

People are really underestimating the loss of AJ. You're taking a .280 hitter with 27 dingers out of the lineup, where the hell are we going to get that production from?
