By world I'm assuming you mean NATO countries, and they aren't really standing up in meaningful defiance. The rest of the region reacts pretty strongly whenever Israel does anything. They way I see it, the legitimacy of Israeli foreign policy kind of ebbs and flows, sometimes they place nice and sometimes they dont. Example: they concede territory to the PLO peacefully with a lot of international support...then they bomb the living s*** out of that territory like they're trying to win it back. I think it might have something to do with the sitting government, but I really dont know exactly what motivates them to be so Jekyll/Hyde. Either way the reaction from the West still looks like Philip Seymour Hoffman after Bunny Lebowski offers to suck the dude's cock for $1000. edit- found the video

So I'm playing drums in a ska punk Boston covers band, "Deplorable Feelings." We played our first show in front of about 10 people (give or take). Next stop: sold out Allstate Arena.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/feb/1...ck-mossad-dubai I highly doubt Israel is going to see any less support from the west just because of this one episode, but there's a trend here that Israel is becoming much less willing to mess around and play by the rules.

Forgive Student Loan Debt to Stimulate the Economy

Departments need a nice steady source of money flowing in and geneds are a pretty effective way of accomplishing it. I didn't like my general courses, I still dont... but I understand the rationale and play the game. -
I cannot beg you enough to not do this. From about 10-13 I was heavily medicated on all sorts of ADD/ADHD stuff and it kinda f***ed me up. I got next to no sleep (stunting my growth), I had insane mood swings that you wouldn't expect from a kid that age and I kinda think it had some lasting effects that linger on today. You're introducing all sorts of chemicals into a developing brain and none of it is healthy. I dont blame my parents for putting me on them, they didn't know any better, but it definitely had an affect on my personality/schoolwork at least through high school. Get him a tutor, a therapist... anything but those f***ing brain control meds.

Assuming we have a common definition of torture, no. But whether we like it or not it's probably going to happen and in very rare cases it probably has to happen, and those instances I would prefer to not even know about it. I'm referring more on an international level, our domestic political history is pretty awful.

I like America a lot, and I'm getting a little bit sick of cliched "I remember when I started to question things!" stuff as it pertains to our history. Have people lost sight of how justified we usually are in what were trying to accomplish? Defeat the brutal dictatorships of the 30's and 40's who sought to build empire through eugenics, beat the Soviet brand of communsim which proved to be a destructive force that set much of the world back 50 or so years, eradicate international terrorism that's claimed thousands of lives... these are good things for us to be doing. We've even cleaned up after some of our messes with things like the infusion of Iraqi infrastructure development and the Marshall Plan*. You all get so caught up in the means that you forget the ends; America by and large has been an overwhelmingly positive influence on the world. We've had our f***ups (Native American genocide, Latin America) but they are tiny blips compared to our successes. *our track record here is not perfect, but its a step up from previous empires who left everything they couldn't loot to die.

I'll be stopping by Egypt when I study abroad in Israel next year, its pretty safe. The State Department will tell you there is terrorism/secruity issues in every country.

I'll stop short of predicting civil war, but if the Ayatollah is actually deposed there will be a huge power vacuum both in governing a state that huge and drafting a new constitution. A lot of parties and interests are going to want a seat at the table like Hezbollah. Hezbollah is not compatible with a new democracy that we want to be pro-western so we have to keep them out. That could mean a host of problems, from war between Lebanon and Israel to US troops staying in Iraq a few more years to secure the border. See what I'm kinda getting at here? It's great for the Iranian people to finally have a real democracy within reach, but destabilizing a country that big in the region is going to have a ton of side effects.
-
One side of me is happy for Iranians, they probably deserve this. The other is not ready for an armed insurrection in a country of 120 million that happens to be right next to one of the United States' most vested strategic interests in the world, not to mention the history the two have. Here's hoping the process drags out another year or so, at least enough time for us to get ourselves out of Iraq and let the new government there secure the border. Not that I'm calling for the CIA to slow down the activists via some of their dubious means. Hell, Mossad would probably do it for us the keep Hezbollah from having another safe haven.

The Fountainhead is so much better than Atlas Shrugged though. Besides, I hear a lot of senior HS english classes have it in the curriculum (mine didn't). Roark's a pretty likable guy unlike Dagny Taggart or Hank Rearden, I think it'd be a fun exercise.

It wasn't Nels Cline that killed Wilco, it was Jeff Tweedy deciding to not be an asshole anymore.
