  1. Go with Shields to build up his trade resume. Naming him the opening day starter might help make a team or two still think he has value.
  2. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 12:57 PM) I'll take the under. How much lower than 8 would you rank him? I don't see him as the best or even 2nd best RFer yet. Maybe 3rd or 4th best?
  3. Buster Olney just released his rankings for RF on espn.com and Avi is regarded highly. The article is an insider feature, so you can't see the whole thing unless you subscribe. However, here's what he had to say about our future HOFer...... I can't wait to see him battle for MVP awards in the coming seasons! So glad the organization had patience with his development and we are going to be so rewarded over the next couple of decades.
  4. You can't trade Avi unless you are getting a s***load of a haul. It's tough to get future HOFers and you don't give them away. Be smart Rick. He's an integral part of our 2019 World Series championship team.
  5. QUOTE (Tony @ Nov 5, 2017 -> 05:26 PM) You contradict yourself in the same post. In my eyes, there is no reason to extend Avi right now. We have 1400 AB's that tell us one thing, and 500 that tell us another thing. I'd want about 400 more to give me a better idea of who Avi Garcia is. If the Sox can "easily afford him" now, they should still be able to afford him in August of 2018 when he still has another year left of control and is hopefully sporting a .900 OPS. He's probably a $15 million / year guy now and is price tag will likely go up to about $22 million / year if we wait until the next offseason to sign him. Why bet on him to fail? I've seen enough to be convinced he's a future HOFer and we need to lock him up now for the next 6-8 seasons.
  6. Just give him an Italian beef sandwich and a deep dish pizza. He'll be as good as signed once he tastes Chicago food.
  7. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 1, 2017 -> 11:57 AM) Barring a pinch hit appearance, Garcia's final numbers are: 136 games, 561 PAs, 518 ABs, 75 R, 171 H, 27 2B, 5 3B, 18 HR, 80 RBI, 5 SB, 33 BB, 111 SO, .330/.380/.506/.886, 137 OPS+, 9 HBP, 1 ASG, and the potential of a silver slugger award (Trout/Judge are very likely, and the other is probably between Avi/Springer/Davis). He should finish top 10 in MVP voting as well.
  8. Any update on Avi? I hope its nothing serious that affects our chances of winning the 2019 World Series
  9. I've been saying all season that Avi will be a perennial all star the rest of his career and a future HOF inductee (maybe first ballot). If our rebuild is to be successful, we must sign him to a long term contract (unfortunately, the organization has probably cost itself 50-75 million by waiting til this point)
  10. Jason Heywards best BA ever was .293 while Avi is currently batting .325. Jason's best SLG in his career is .479 while Avi's current SLG is .495. Jason's highest OPS ever is .849 while Avi currently has an OPS of .868. And Jason's career best in these 3 categories were in 3 different seasons while Avi is doing it all in one year. I'm not sure how anyone can claim that Heyward has ever had a better season than Avi is having in 2017. Really, I don't understand this hatred for the guy among our fanbase. We should be happy that we have one of the best young players in the game wearing our uniform and yet many want to get rid of him. SMH
  11. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 4, 2017 -> 12:32 PM) WTF? That's crazy. He's having his first decent season and still has shortcomings. On one hand, he has a .368 wOBA and a wRC+ of 132. Solid season. He does have a crazy high .392 BABIP though. He's not a defender and only has 14 homers while being relegated to an OF corner. He's just always a guy that contending teams will be looking to replace in my opinion. Some of you need to accept the current value of MLB players today. The Cubs signed Jason Heyward to a 8 year / $184 million dollar contract just 2 years ago (and he supposedly turned down 2 offers of over $200 million). His lifetime stats are a .262 BA / .412 SLG / .756 OPS. Avi has career stats of .273 BA / .410 SLG / .734 OPS. Avi is a younger player than Jason was at the time and is having a far better season than Heyward has ever had in his career. The numbers I quoted would still be a good deal for the organization. We would have been wiser to sign him long term earlier in the season for less money (as I advocated), but if we don't sign him this offseason, it will take even more a commitment to keep him on the southside for the bulk of his HOF career.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 3, 2017 -> 11:50 PM) You don't think he's worthy of that?? That's peanuts today. That's Melky money. Are you saying 5/75 is way too much? You would go for 5/50? 5/60? He's not worth 10-15 mill a year in today's economy? Is that based only on the advanced stats? These figures are all low....I don't see anyway he's signing for less than $20 million per year. Perhaps start with an offer of 6 years / $108 million with the intention of settling somewhere in the neighborhood of 7 years / $154 million. And you don't trade him.....I'd hate to see him enter the HOF wearing any other cap than the White Sox.
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 4, 2017 -> 09:05 PM) I was thinking straight up for Meadows in Pittsburgh myself That would have been a better move than keeping him
  14. Regardless of what happens in this game, I still wish we would have traded Clippard for a couple more top 100 prospects
  15. I understand why he's not ranked high on many lists, but I think that we'll look back 7-8 years from now and Dunning will be the biggest pickup from any of these deals.
  16. Now if Engel had bunted, we could have the start of another 9th inning rally
  17. Engel should lay down a bunt damnit! These guys are so stupid!
  18. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jul 9, 2017 -> 04:05 PM) Because that would be s***ty The hitting by the Sox has been s***ty thus far. Gotta try something different.
  19. Why are none of our guys trying to bunt for a basehit????
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 24, 2017 -> 12:37 PM) Obviously you have something against Avi with your troll statements about what he's worth, etc. So what guys on the team do you like? You've been here since 2005 so you must be a Sox fan. I don't hate Avi at all. As a matter of fact, I want him to be of the White Sox future when we win our next World Series. However, you can't offer someone who wins the league batting title and finishes in the top 3 of MVP vote getting only $6 million dollars per year. That's insulting and would guarantee his exit from the South Side.
  21. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 23, 2017 -> 08:55 PM) If he goes to arbitration next year, what is he likely to get? $6-7 mm? Double that and you might be close.
