QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 22, 2017 -> 01:22 PM) They just won a World Series, and they're set to be the favorites in their division for the foreseeable future. I think that's literally everything you can ask for your team to give you. If the Cardinals are able to steal Avi Garcia from us, the Cubs will not win another division title for a very long time.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 18, 2017 -> 05:37 PM) 8/120?! No way he accepts anything below 12/360. Let's be serious. The market will not give him Bryce Harper type dollars yet (this may change in a year or two if he's not locked up long term) I really think an offer of 8/120 is about FMV at this point and I think he may take it for long term stability. Avi is a future HOFer and I'd hate to see him enter Cooperstown representing another team besides the White Sox.

It may be too late as his value has gone through the roof, but I'd offer him an 8 year $120 million extension. If he takes it, he's the centerpiece of our rebuild. If he doesn't, trade him if you can get a package as good (or better) as we got for Sale.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 08:26 PM) Basically, the Samardzija deal. I still think they're going to wait until the end of the season. I watched Mark Teahen hit like this for four months in Kansas City, but not for the full season, he fell off. Just like Beckham his rookie year. Let's not be ridiculous. Mark Teahen couldn't carry Avi's jockstrap.

The stranger thing is that we haven't even talked renewal with Avi. I suggested a while back that offer him a 6 year / $72 million extension. His market value has probably gone up $3 million per year since than and if we don't do anything soon, he'll be out of our budget.

That was nice
-
He'll sign with either the White Sox or the Cardinals for a s***load of cash
-
Carrerra still hitless after leading off the 7th with an out. He may get one more shot in the 9th.....but chances running out.

Only one division in baseball with 4 out 5 teams above .500.......the toughest division in the game top to bottom is the AL Central.

Sign Avi to a long term contract?

We are 25 games into the season and Avi is still leading the league in batting average. It's time for people to realize we now have one of the best players in the game. His cost has probably risen to about $14 million per season since this thread was posted, but it would still be to our advantage to sign him long term now before he gets $20+ million on the open market at the end of the season. Hurry up Hahn and make this your #1 priority! -
White Sox have "set" Luis Robert market

I think we need to work out a long term extension with Avi first. If we have enough money leftover after this to make a successful run at Luis, lets do it! -

QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 10:53 AM) Dan Hayes @CSNHayes 20s In his first 11 1/3 IP with #WhiteSox, Tommy Kahnle walked 14 and struck out 7. From Aug 11 forward, he has 30 Ks and 7 BBs in 21 2/3 IP. #ReliefACE $20 Million a season for Avi after a great 2 weeks, and I'm not being sensible...Trolling is fun. But Avi has always shown us he had the tools - it was just a matter of putting the pieces together. He's hitting .423 now.....so lets say he does slump a little and ends up only hitting .375 for the season with 30 HRs and 110 RBIs. That would fetch at least $20 mil per season in the winter. If we could sign him now for 6/72, it secure a major building block and save us a ton of money. -

QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Apr 19, 2017 -> 05:17 PM) If he's the next Trout why stop at 6/72? Why not give him Pujols money since he's gonna be better, gotta keep him locked down thru his prime and past! Then extend our relief aces Putnam, Jennings, Ynoa (hell, throw Kahnle a bone too) to a Chapmanesque contract and we'll be set!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Be sensible. There is no one in that bullpen that is worth extending to be a part of our potential championship teams 3-4 years from now. However, Avi's bat can be a cornerstone and help make that dynasty happen. If we let him play out this season and hit the open market, its likely going to cost $20 million a season to keep him. If we could get a deal done now at $12 mil per, it would give us $8 mil more to work with on annual basis. -

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 19, 2017 -> 04:25 PM) I have always wanted the Sox to stick with Avi Garcia. He is 25 years old and IMO he has always fit in the long term real plans Finally someone else who agrees with me. Let's hope Hahn is on our side. I'd love to hear them announce a deal soon and think the figures I mentioned to start this thread would be fair to all (6 years / $72 million). -

QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Apr 19, 2017 -> 09:53 AM) Yeah, why not? After all, the Tim Anderson extension has worked like a charm so far. Also, lock up Davidson for another 5-6 years, while we're at it. Davidson has to prove himself a little longer. He didn't have to suffer under the Ventura regime which held many players production to 70% or less of their capacity. It's clear now that Avi was the biggest victim of Robin's "leadership" and I hope we can keep "Little Miggy" in the fold for a long time as he blossoms into a first ballot HOFer. -

Those of you poo-pooing the move will regret it if he fetches $25 million per year in the offseason. This could be our chance to lock up a Mike Trout or Bryce Harper type talent for half the dough. It could be instrumental in building that 2020 World Series championship team. Waiting is suicidal. This a move that needs to be made now before its too late. -
With Avi becoming one of the best hitters in all of baseball, should we make the move now to secure him long term? I think we could get a good discount based upon his performance of the last several years. Perhaps something like 6 years / $72 million? $12 million a year could still be a steal for someone capable of winning a triple crown and he's still young enough to be an integral part of our team when the prospects mature. I know some may say I sound crazy......but you have to roll the dice sometimes and this may be a good time to gamble.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 16, 2017 -> 08:48 AM) Should have traded when you could. Now we are stuck with him. He really has only had 2 bad innings. He pitched well last Sunday but the Sox scored 1 run. He was awful in the first yesterday but pitched decently after that and wasn't going to win anyway since the Sox could only muster 1 hit. Despite some big performances the Sox offense has been mostly brutal. They have a game they scored 11, one they scored 10, and have averaged 2 runs a game in the others. It looking around the league there are a ton of players with crazy awful offensive numbers. I think Q had a different routine this spring and peaked for the WBC, and it will take him a bit to get back to normal. He had something to pitch for in the WBC. He has nothing to pitch for now. He figures he isn't going to be on the team by the end of the year and its not going to affect his income at all (option years are low enough they will be picked up as long as his ERA is below 5). It actually benefits him to pitch poorly as his new team will be able to hold onto prime prospects when acquiring him. People can say this is BS all they want, but motivation affects 100% of people in how they perform and he has none. Hahn handled this poorly and we'll unfortunately pay a price.

Avi may bring back the biggest haul of prospects from any of our players if he keeps this up!

Shields has to be one of the top candidates for Cy Young as of now.
