  1. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 10:51 PM) Heh, I'll even admit, as much as it pains me, that I was dead wrong about the Bears. It takes a REAL man to admit he is wrong, Heads
  2. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 10:10 PM) Lose by 13 to the f***ing Bobcats? Yay for reaching complete joke status. No s***. Same script, they mail it in about midway through the 3rd quarter. And not only do they lose, but they look like 8th grade players when they are doing it. The first 8 minutes of the 4th quarter were absolutely pathetic. Tyson traveling, Gordon jacking, Kirk throwing them away, Deng stepping on the sideline while shooting a three, Sweetney getting called for a foul that he didnt commit, then committing a stupid foul 3 seconds later, Pargo throwing away an inbounds, getting another chance on a delay of game and immediately throwing it away again, Nocioni getting an offensive foul, you name it, they f***ing did it. Absolutely pathetic.
  3. The audio from the conference call on MLB.com is very interesting. KW says the payroll is expected to settle in at 95 million, and he would prefer to keep all 5 starters he has now and give BMac time to develop and put on some weight and get situated with himself. some quotes -in regards to McCarthy's role next year
  4. Happy Birthday Josh. Now own up.
  5. And what is "The Owens thing" and the rumors about Owens?
  6. QUOTE(SnB @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 05:35 PM) tejada is coming and going to play center AND be our 7th starter.
  7. LOL, yeah we should trade some prospects for Rowand before the season starts.
  8. I think this gives the White Sox a great opportunity for the first half of the season next year. Everyone is worried about the WBC taking its toll on the MLB players, so the White Sox get a chance to actually go with a 6 man rotation until the trade deadline if needs be, and move one of 6 pitchers to fortify the rest of the team. Kenny is awesome, no doubt about it.
  9. QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 12:27 PM) At least he doesn't seem to pissed about sucking it up here. I dont really see what he would have to be pissed about. The guy fumbled the first time he touched a ball in a bears uniform, and he never stopped. He knows somewhere in his brain what he did wrong. He just cannot admit it.
  10. QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 12:32 PM) Was this guy good during his playing years because i think i am too young to remember or know who he is. He was really nasty in his prime, but he hung around for about 4 years too long. He didnt have much left in his arm when he finally retired. He had a crazy slider IIRC, and a power change. drop down/sidearm delivery.
  11. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 12:34 PM) scoop's ok with me, but he's a pale imitation of ralph wiley. There will never be another Ralph Wiley
  12. QUOTE(JimH @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 02:34 PM) You said it better than I could have, nice job. Not sure about Tejada but I think there's another trade in the works. A player like Garland always has more value if they're signed. Is Garland tradeable? I thought teams had to wait a certain period of time before trading a player after signing him or extending him
  13. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 02:32 PM) BRAVO KENNY!!! Now lets see if Garland can repeat his outstanding performance of last season now that he got his money. statement of the month around here. Many people on this site pegged Jon to fall back to his "Judy" Garland days and just be happy being mediocre because he got paid.
  14. Yay! Now VAFan can move onto obsessing over keeping another player! LOL, he must be dancing a jig in VA.
  15. QUOTE(Fingish @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 11:17 AM) Bedard and Who? Bedard for Zito seems to be a bad deal for the A's... Cubs rumors dont have to make sense. They just have to make sense for the Cubs. Stop being silly.
  16. QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Dec 27, 2005 -> 07:52 PM) Isn't he a basketball writer? Sure is, he made his mark in SLAM magazine. This is just like ESPN though, they try and make every announcer/commentator weigh in throughout the year, regardless of affiliation. I dont know if anyone remembers Dick Vitale July 31st this past year in a trade deadline rundown, He couldnt stop talking about the Yankees and Red Sox. Stephen A Smith is also a classic example of someone completely out of his element when he is doing his show "Quite Frankly". SAS understands basketball very well, but he just doesnt understand every sport equally, and ends up sounding incredibly misinformed when he makes comments on his show.
  17. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 12:35 AM) Stupid if it's two. Angelos needs to fire the GM. How many times can the Angelos blame his GMs. He doesnt let them make moves without his approval, he is basically Dan Snyder in baseball, hoping to be Steinbrenner. But he just doesnt have the baseball knowledge. Its really sad too, this used to be quite a competitive organization when it came to Free Agents and players coming through the system.
  18. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines what kind of personal la-la land was Bobby Wade floating around in? How did he not understand why he got cut, why he wasnt the 3rd WR in Lovie's eyes, why he had to make the team as a special teams player? Its like he doesnt recognize that his punt return yardage doesnt mean s*** if he coughs up the ball at the end of the run. Yay Bobby! You led the league in punt returns after you returned one for a touchdown. Then you preceded to fumble 8 more times, making your touchdown return MOOT. moron. :headshake
  19. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 02:13 AM) Oh really? The Bears in 2005 have given up 11.2 points a game, 274.2 Yds/G and have 24 INT's and have forced 18 fumbles. In 2004, the Bears gave up 20.7 points a game, 336.9 Yds/G and only had 17 INT's and onlt forced 14 fumbles. Their defense is better in EVERY category this season. That's why it's become elite, and why that argument you've said is flawed. The way Orton handled the offense? Ok then. Rex throws a better deep ball and more receivers such as Justin Gage and Bernard Berrian have become involved in the offense, which can only open things up for the running game. But guys, let's try to keep things civil in here, while we've got a fairly good discussion going. what is this common sense bulls***? Who do you think you are?
  20. QUOTE(Y2HH @ Dec 27, 2005 -> 02:09 PM) Wear your brand-new White Sox World Series jacket. touche!
  21. I have been thinking about this alot lately. What are some of the possible after-effects of what was referred to as the "Steroid Era", a period of time in the mid/late 90's that stretched into 2004 in which many offensive numbers were outright obliterated. Im curious to get some feedback of what others think will happen. I see many league offensive averages dropping, most notably runs per game and batting averages, also number of homeruns hit per game. But I also see other facets of the game being brought back to the forefront, like the ideas that shape "smallball". Stolen bases, sacrifice flies, sac bunts, more strategy brought back to the league(commonly referred to as national league style ball). This is really an incomplete thought on my part, and I think discussion will probably bring out more points that i have thought of, but cant remember at this time. Thoughts and points are welcome.
  22. I dont mind trading marginal second basemen to the Rockies. It worked pretty well the first time.
  23. http://abcnews.go.com/Sports/wireStory?id=1445577 "The Beard" is on house arrest, seems like he didnt save much money from his playing days. j/k The circumstances surrounding the arrest are actually sad.
  24. Good Article by the most frequently muted player on ATH. Pretty humble article by his standards.
