  1. I dont see how telling people the person in the picture was ozzies son would change anyone's perception of the pic
  2. QUOTE(valponick @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 02:53 PM) The White Sox are substituting activity for performance, which is one of the last steps before "unemployment" for a baseball management team. When signing Jermaine Dye to a two-year deal is the good move of the winter, it's a very bad sign. Actually, that shorts the pickup of Tadahito Iguchi, who was kind of a Japanese Ray Durham. Keep in mind that Durham had his last healthy, effective season at 29; Iguchi turned 30 in December. Carlos Lee is now Scott Podsednik. Frank Thomas might be back in April, May or never. Aaron Rowand is presumably back, taking the place of the alien that played in his body last year. It's one thing to again hope that this is the year Joe Crede finds the keys; it's quite another to need it to be the case. The "small ball" concept should claim another victim this year. The pitching staff isn't going to make up for the falloff in runs scored. Freddy Garcia and Mark Buehrle are mid-rotation innings guys who get paid like aces. They head a rotation that's long on hope--not just one, but two Cubans with shaky recent track records exiled from the Bronx--and short on anything you can rely upon. The bullpen is better, with two legitimate studs at the back in Damaso Marte and Shingo Takatsu. Ozzie Guillen did an excellent job last year in funneling most of the relevant innings to his nine or so best pitchers, perhaps Guillen's signature skill aside from being quotable. It won't be enough to patch for what is going to be a bad offense. Projected standings: White Sox 71-91 749 856 - Joe Sheehan's Preseason Preview EDIT: If this has been posted sorry. This is why i would never be able to be a reporter or columnist for a national publication. No doubt I would write something stupid down like this, believe it, then go have to read it after the season was over and realize just how wrong I was.
  3. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 02:41 PM) I've also seen the comments comparing the fans reactions in both situations. Thing is, IMO, I can't blame the Houston fans for not getting in the way. Uribe is a big guy, and if I had him running full steam at me, on a mission, I'm moving WAY out of the way!!! Not to mention that the Bartman play completely changed the mentality of fans who are near the field of play. People are very aware now that making an effort to get the ball from a player, even if the fan has the right to the ball, is not tolerated anymore and could get you kicked out of the park. I think fans who are close to the wall now are very aware of foul balls and players trying to get the balls. I think that Uribes catch and Alou's non-catch arent comparable plays only in the awareness that the common fan has now. Other than that, the circumstances of the play were very similar.
  4. QUOTE(bmags @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 02:30 PM) what the hell... i went five pages back...i tried honestly... lol, you must have skipped page 2. It was about 4 topics from the top. Its pretty forgivable right now. Many people thinking the same things at this point

  6. QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 02:13 PM) but what's the reaction of your Cub fan co-workers? To the sports talkers? Complete and utter silence. My area coordinator sat in with me for training in early april, and ridiculed me for about 8 hours about how the Cubs were going to be better (Kerry Wood is better than Buehrle, Barrett is a better game-caller than that cancer pierzynski, Corey Patterson will be the best CF/Leadoff hitter in the game...etc.al) and that the Sox were a second class baseball team that should have moved to Tampa when given the chance, and I as a Sox fan was a second class citizen in my own town. I didnt say anything the entire year to him about baseball. i let him wallow in his own teams misery, while the Sox charged on throughout the year. On the day the Sox clinched, I sent him a screenshot of MLB.com saying the White Sox were champs, and nothing else. Today, I sent him an email with the subject heading "Did you see this?", along with an attachment of the front page graphic on ESPN.com, showing the Sox were champions. Then, nothing else. I thought I would show him a little respect, since he showed me none. I didnt rub it in, I didnt make fun of his team, I just showed him who the winner was.

  8. That almost reads like the script to Kill Bill.
  9. Yeah, Eddie the Eagle is Belfour.
  10. QUOTE(The Critic @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 10:17 AM) I try to. That song sucks, as does Bicycle Race. Well we all have our opinions dont we. I happen to think the song rocks
  11. Depends on the definition of "feared". Im sure super-agents like Rosenhaus and Bora$$ are plenty feared by NFL and MLB owners everywhere
  12. If Garcia senses a pitchers duel, he morphs into an incredibly crafty and unpredictable pitcher. His problem is now and will always be the "big-game" stigma. if he feels the game isnt as important, then we seem to get the stinkers. If it means something, then we see all of the talent and execution.
  13. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 11:03 AM) I know I gave s*** so I am ready to accept my fate..GM!! J/k.. I let the pass cloud my present this past offseason. Even though it took 174 games to do it, you admitted you are wrong. That takes alot for anyone to do, and is commendable. Now, no more 27 page threads arguing that Kenny made all bad moves in the off-season.
  14. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 10:58 AM) I actually like Jay's column today. Very, very, very well written. I agree. But he couldnt exactly rip the team, he didnt have anything left but nice things to say. So he was forced to say them.

  20. I think Milwaukee got ripped off. Desmond Mason and a 1st rd pick are worth way more than Jamal Magloire
  21. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Oct 26, 2005 -> 11:37 AM) I wouldn't be so sure of that at all. Go see the movie Do the Right thing. They are right on with this. I am currently doing a project on Neo Nazis for English (We each have to do a cult and the one i had to was Neo Nazis) and i was on that resistance Message Board trying to find info about this. One of the guys said that he was watching MNF. Why the f*** would you watch MNF if you are a Neo Nazi when half of the players on the field are either Black, Jewish, or Latino. THey look at famous black people as either not being black or not being black enough for them to hate. You are basing your opinion of Skinheads on the movie Do the Right thing and a Skinhead messageboard you went to for "research". Seriously, think about that. Unless you are a skinhead, I wouldnt go around telling people how they all think. It could get you in trouble.
