QUOTE(False Alarm @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 12:27 PM) from what i've heard of him, big boi's a good MC, which means he raps, and he's been a pretty important part of outkast over the years. just cuz andre 3000 wants to be prince doesn't mean outkast isn't (or wasn't, anyway) rap. the term "hip hop" pretty much assumes rap anyway, as i understand it. also, the attitudes about hip hop in this thread aren't really fair. the violent, thuggish hacks that compose most of mainstream hip hop are a small minority. there are, like, a kajillion hip hop artists outside of the dozen or so that get regular radio/MTV rotation, and plenty of them deal with issues other than violence, misogyny, etc. just thought i should put that out there. and no, suge knight has never rhymed. You dont see a difference in Hip Hop and Gangsta Rap? Just because Big Boi and Andre 3000 can rap, doesnt mean they are Gangsta rappers which is what i was saying. In fact, many songs that Outkast and Jurassic 5 perform completely rip on Gansta rappers and their songs. The attitudes in this thread are not against Hip hop, they are against Gangsta Rap. The violent, thuggish "hacks" may only make up a small percentage of what is out there(doubtful), but alot of the mainstream rappers came from that background. Ludacris, 50 Cent, Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, even Bone Thugs n Harmony could be considered among this group, even though alot of these guys are considered fakes because their background wasnt tough enough for the critics. The MTV generation likes the violence and thuggery, and they have a big say in top 40, whether we like it or not. I, for one, love Jurassic 5, GURU, Common, Mos Def, Outkast, etc. And you will never hear me calling them rappers just because they can flow.
  2. I see RDriesen lurking... Whats the story on the Cincinatti side? Are you hearing anything that we arent hearing? Whats your feel on whats gonna happen(if anything)
  3. QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:37 AM) Yes, that part I get, but is he saying he does or doesn't think Griffey will do that? Seems to me if Levine is saying he thinks the deal will get done b-4 Wed., he feels Griffey will go to Reds mgmt. and ask for the trade. Did he speculate at all on that? No, he didnt speculate much at all. he just repeated the same things he has been repeating for weeks. He said Griffey is talking out of both sides of his mouth(which is a pot-meet-kettle type story if you ask me) about where he wants to be. I guess the only good thing you can draw from this, if you want Griffey, is that Griffey has never come out and said he wont allow the trade to happen.
  4. QUOTE(bmags @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:21 AM) i already have it and its very good, very poppy...down like disco is quite good...awesome shoe-gaze rock... spoon, BRMC, and dandy warhols all put out real nice rock and roll records this year... The Warhols definitely have a disco-rock feel about them
  5. QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:34 AM) Well, I'm confused by this thread. There was one post that said Levine thinks the deal will indeed happen in the next day or so, and now he's saying he doesn't think Griffey will go to Reds mgmt. and ask for a trade? Bruce is basically saying that Griffey has to make it known that he wants out of Cinci to fascillitate the trade.
  6. QUOTE(bmags @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:30 AM) i think we really can win the season opener...i cry when i think i might not be able to watch most of this season and i'm gonna miss this ridiculously good defense we have (i'm at school in mizzou right now) Ha! The Rams and Chiefs rule the roost around you. In Carbondale i had to finally break down and get the NFL ticket to watch the Bears.
  7. He isnt saying anything he hasnt already said before. bruce is pretty convinced that Griffey is the only one that the Sox are pursuing.
  8. QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:20 AM) If someone can please post what's said (by Levine) ... much appreciated. Those stuck on a 2 hour teleconference would like to know! I got my teleconference out of the way at 10 AM just so I could listen to good old Bruce.

QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 10:00 AM) Laying on the couch with a hangover one Sunday afternoon the remote fell off the table and being too lazy to get up to pick it up.. I watched that also. Scary is right. Extremely sad to see that harmless little child grow up into what he is today. You know their shady lawyer, David Kenner? Currently, that guy represents Maurice Clarett. When you think about all the bad decisions Clarett has made in the past 3 years, it all sort of makes sense.
  10. QUOTE(bmags @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 09:38 PM) ssweet...i loved that doc "dig"...i really didn't listen to them until then, i'd been a dandy warhols fan for a while... i first read that as tom petty with the black crowes as like his new backing band Are you pumped about "The odditorium...." which is coming out next month? I thought that the Warhols were awesome when they came out, and have gotten progressively better each album. I still havent seen them live, but they seem like they would be really fun.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 09:08 PM) not true for all rappers. Listen to OutKast, Public Enemy, LL Cool J, and others. Actually Gangsta Rap was originally designed to bring awarness to all the bad things that were happening in the Ghetto. Outkast is more hip-hop than rap. And i dont really think LL Cool J was considered Gangsta Rap either. Suge Knight is nothing but a bully who has been in the right place at the right time all too often(business-wise). I watched the Documentary about Death Row Records(the life and death of death row). What an eye opener, absolutely scary s*** went down in that place.
  12. QUOTE(WSNS-TV44 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 09:36 AM) Agreed. He's a great RB,but like someone said, the offensive line is paper thin.Jones is not great, but good enough. Ced Benson, glad he signed. But now,he better get his ass in gear.He already did his Curtis Enis-like holdout,I hope he doesn't play like him too. No, the O-Line WAS paper thin. I dont believe it is anymore. In fact, I think its gonna be very good this year.
  13. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 09:22 AM) He really seems to just absolutely make things up...and he is respected by all these stations and networks...unreal. name me a credible baseball guy who has the same, or similar job as Bruce Levine. All those guys get the same rap, they throw a bunch of s*** against the wall to see what sticks. Its what they do, every single one of them. Bruce is no different, he is the Cubs version of Peter Gammons(without the salmon colored suits). Sometimes he is right, but it is few and far between, just like Gammons.
  14. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 09:20 AM) im not sure we couldnt at least get the deal considered again if we wanted to take his whole contract. Desperate times call for desperate measures. KW and JR have to want the best team available for the playoffs. Come on JR, Win or Die Trying.
  15. Did he have elbow or shoulder surgery with the cubs? Either way, he hasnt been close to the same as he was before his surgery since it was performed. I remember when the White Sox went to Atlanta, I think in 01, They lost I believe 3-2 to Greg maddux. Remlinger came in for the 7th, and just flat out dominated everyone who stepped in the box.
  16. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 09:01 AM) If you look at my total posts, I have not even come close to 1 billion posts. I don't see how it is possible that I have posted that even close to 50 billion times along with the other sane individual. by the way, Griffey isnt coming to Chicago! /insert rimshot
  17. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 08:17 AM) Well Thomas Jones is Thomas Jones, he's not in the top half of starting RB's in the league, hence why they drafted Benson. And yeah he could be good enough to be the 2nd coming of Tomlinson, no-one's seen him in a NFL game yet so it's a bit early to be maing judgements, but Tomlinson was the #5 pick, Benson #4. With Ron Turner going with a power running game, Benson will probably be the starter by mid - season I'd think. Jones is quite injury prone, so that can't be ruled out either. If Thomas stays healthy(which is a big IF for any running back, and a little moreso for Jones) I predict a big year from him. He almost made 1000 last year and he missed alot of time.
  18. You guys are crazy if you think that Benson is just going to push Thomas Jones to the backburner. I think Jones is going to be getting 80 percent of the snaps for the first half of the year, and Benson will be eased into getting 40 percent of the snaps towards the end of the year. Benson clearly hurt his value to the team by missing so much time, and unless he is the second coming of Tomlinson(doubtful), I see no reason to expect so much from him so soon. To all of you fantasy footballers who drafted Jones as a serviceable RB, I wouldnt be hasty to dump him right now. I actually think he molded himself very well to the offense. Not to mention that he is fast and strong, and as quick as a waterbug. It will be nice to spell Jones with a powerback like Benson, but I think it will be a little while.
  19. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 05:51 PM) How much clearer can he be? Some of you are living in some serious denial, he's not coming get over it! QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 07:22 PM) kill me now, God. I cant wait until its over. Then I can stop listening to you two whine about everyone talking about it. Seriously, if you dont want to think that its possible, than stay away from the thread. You have made your point, you both dont believe its happening, I heard it the 1st 50 billion times.
  20. I have read Kodee Kennings stories many times. But I thought it was more of a deliberate hoax, i never thought any of the stories were actually written by a little girl whose father was in Iraq. Its a shame that everyone was duped, and apologies were necessary.
  21. Im going to Soldier Field to see the Rolling Stones when they are coming into town. ** **tentatively, if my Dad happens to catch on with a girlfriend by that time, my ticket is forfeited. I understand though.
  22. Dont forget about the Fry Guys! And who is the Duck girl, I cant remember her either
  23. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 04:12 PM) Felix is going to run through this line up of ours ANyone else share this fear? :banghead this thought shouldnt be typed
  24. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 04:08 PM) Wow! Talk about overexaggerating. If you really would be upset if the Sox traded Matt Smith for Nomar, is that a personal attack? Im not sure you should be pretend-hitting me with a chair. I live vicariously through smileys. it wasnt so much an overexageration as it was a point. I dont really think Nomar's positives outweigh his negatives anymore. Of course, anyone can have a comeback in their career. i just dont think Nomar is worth much at this point, and the Cubs should have to live with his contract.
  25. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 03:22 PM) I usually hate Curt, but this time is different. I applaud him for these comments. Can i ask why?
