  1. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 03:34 PM) Take a look at the Yankees for what happens if you keep trading all of your prospects. They've got a lot of old guys on their roster, and no one in the minors. They have no one that can really help their major league team, and no real ammo to add another player in a trade. They're pretty much stuck with what they have. And the Sox can't afford to keep adding FA veterans like the Yankees do to replace them. Not all of them pan out, but those that do are of upmost importance, especially for a mid market team. How many World Series have the Yankees been in since 1996? How many AL Championships? How many times have they gone to the playoffs? How many times did they win their division? The Yankees have gotten the short end of the stick this year, but they have no problem mortgaging the future for the present, if the present means a World Series. Most importantly, the Yankees have put themselves in a position where their minor leagues arent as important any more because "everyone wants to be a Yankee", and they can stack their team in the offseason. I dont think the Yankees are the example you want to give when proving that you should not trade away your prospects. And the season isnt even over yet, I wont kick dirt over the Yankees until the playoffs start and the Yankees are officially out of it.
  2. I read earlier that the rosters were possibly expanding to 14 players instead of 12, is this true?
  3. This will probably get a few laughs, but I seriously think my fellow alum Darren Brooks from SIU will get a serious shot. he may be on the short side (6'3") but the kid is absolutely muscled and was a 2 time MVC player of the year and defensive player of the year. He averaged about 6 steals a game it seemed like, and he was money in the bank when the game was on the line.
  4. Even though everyone is saying Schmidt might be hurt and he was last year and this and that, look at the numbers. Schmidt still pitched 225 innings last year with a 3.20 ERA. Hernandez career high, when he was HEALTHY was only 214 innings. Schmidt is a horse, and Hernandez is a big game gamer, nothing else really. If you look at the past three years without even knowing the names, who would you want? The pitcher that is averaging 200+ innings a year, or the pitcher who didnt even pitch two years ago, barely pitched 80 innings last year, and barely 90 innings 3 years ago? Whats the point of having a "Big Game Pitcher" if he is on the DL more than he is active?
  5. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 02:28 PM) Career wise I don't know. I think Duque has a better ERA. Past few years, I'll give you the argument that he's better. As far as right now, Schmidt= or > El Duque, but they aren't far off in comparison as of right now. Nope, Schmidt has a career ERA of 3.90 and El Duque has a career ERA of 3.96. El Duque http://www.baseball-reference.com/h/hernaor01.shtml Schmidt http://www.baseball-reference.com/s/schmija01.shtml
  6. One thing about Peter Jackson, he is good at doing things on a grand scale.....well he was on LOTR at least
  7. QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 02:19 PM) well she would be hotter if not in a cubs jersey Once that paint washes off, it wont be a jersey any more, only a beautiful naked lady.
  8. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 01:01 PM) f***. Why didn;t they keep Sisco in? Pena > Buddy Bell. Sisco was the problem. He loaded the bases and Nunez came in and couldnt hold it down. Pena gave up and quit. Buddy Bell>Tony Pena
  9. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 12:57 PM) Just curious: Who won last night, Twinkies or Royale's? Twinks. Some alien named Leo Nunez couldnt hold them down and they had about 6 hits in a row in the 7th or 8th.
  10. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 12:51 PM) Conteras only shakes off pitches if you put anything but the forkball down. If you use the forkball sign like 90% of the time. He wont shake off any pitch. You know what pisses me off about that is that Contreras cannot understand that calling his own game and doing things his own way are the reasons that he hasnt had the career that he has expected. Put 2 and 2 together, Jose, it aint hard. Cooper should make a deal with him: Let AJ call the entire game, no questions asked. If you get lit up, we do it your way. If you dont, then you do it our way.
  11. Thats my hottie. Leave Marisa Miller alone, SI made her a Cubs fan.
  12. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 08:50 PM) http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/national/20...aths050628.html American comparison at link as well However, deaths due to heads being cut off by crazy neighbors with chainsaws and swords have increased dramatically.....
  13. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 12:26 PM) No to Politte closing. He wasn't too successful in Toronto at it anyway. If ain't broke, don't fix it. He's been one of the most dominating setup-men in baseball this year. I hate to say it, but we should Shingo a shot. If he fails, then we have many other options. Dustin I dont know how this applies really. he wasnt good at much of anything with Toronto, closing, relieving, whatever. Sometimes players take longer to get where they need to be.
  14. Would Vizquel perform better if put onto a potential playoff contender? Sometimes all it takes is a kick in the ass in the form of a trade to a contender and players perform well beyond expectations. Although Vizquels age and contract are definitely something to take into serious consideration.
  15. All I needed to hear was one quote, and it really turned my stomach. "All of those people who think we are all just spoiled millionaires, well, you are all just jealous." I dont know how that could have been hatcheted and cut up by ESPN, and he clearly stated that they are spoiled millionaires with that quote. We all know that they are all spoiled millionairres, ownership, management, players, ALL of them. But at least the management keeps it at the bargaining table. Roenick is too involved in discussions and talks to be making statements as controversial and heated as they were. And then when the heat is turned on he wants to blame ESPN? f*** hockey.
  16. QUOTE(kane0730 @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 11:26 AM) I'm actually more worried about Cleveland. They are finally starting to hit. Im really not too worried about Cleveland right now. They went on a really good hitting tear and winning streak, but they did it against San Francisco, Colorado, and Arizona. Arizona has some pitching and hitting, but Colorado and SF are drudging the bottom of the league in pitching. If they sweep the Red Sox in Fenway, I will change my tune. But I really dont see it happening.
  17. I think Politte has developed a taste for closing. He is nearly unhittable when runners are in scoring position in tight games. I would trust him no problem. AND, if Politte excelled, I would consider flipping Politte and Hermanson in their roles when Hermanson came back. Politte rules.
  18. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 10:32 AM) Ha, they could've just re-signed Cairo. I love seeing these things happen to the Yankeees. If only they would happen to the Red Sox, too... The Red Sox are getting theirs still. there has been a Foulke Implosion sighting(pun intended) and they were sure that Schilling was going to be back sooner than he is going to be. The Yankees monetary arrogance is finally catching up with them though, and that is good news.
  19. The best character in those movies was Death. His one liners still crack me up. William Sadler played him perfectly
  20. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 11:28 AM) OK, Smart Guy... where does Godzooky fit into all of this?? Godzooky doesnt fit into this. Hard to believe that they made the offspring of the mighty godzilla blow smoke rings. And BTW, how was godzooky created? Was that ever explained?
  21. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 10:29 AM) There are soooo many continuity things, do you really want the run down? Yes? O.K.: The first Godzilla died in the orginal film. The one that carried on through out the 60's into the 70's (known as the "Showa Series" and named so for the Emperor of the time) was the same critter that came about in the second film Godzilla Raids Again, originally known as Gigantis The Fire Monster. In 1984 he was revived again, this time ignoring the Showa Series and starting afresh. These films are the Heisi Series, and went from Gojira '84 through Godzilla Vs. Destroyah. Then there was the 1998 Tri-Star travesty. Lowsy Godzilla movie, but a watchable giant monster on the loose flick...I guess. Toho got pissed at the studio for messing up their critter, so they came back with the Millenium Series, starting with Godzilla 2000, again, a fresh start. With the Millenium Series, they decided that each film was a fresh start, so none of the movies are connected, with the exception of Godzilla x MechaGodzilla and Godzilla, Mothra, MechaGodzilla: Tokyo SOS. The films are so disconnected in the series in fact that two of the films, Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah: Giant Monster All Out Attack and the last movie for awhile Godzilla: Final Wars more or less completely ignore a ton of stuff set-up in the history and universe of Godzilla. In GMK in fact the entire history is turned upside down and Godzilla's symbolism is even changed drastically, and King Ghidorah becomes one of the "saviors" as opposed to his normal role of destruction. No idea why Gamera flies as he does. But if you have not yet, be sure to check out the three Gamera films made in the 90's. They are amazing films with some of the greatest FX work you will ever see. The stories are great, and extremely effective. The third film even played New York a few years ago, and it was so powerful due to the extreme destruction and realism that the people in attendance actually left the theater in tears since it was too close to 9-11. Those films have a connection to GMK as they were done by the same crews. But seriously, I highly recommend them. They are: Gamera: Gaurdian Of the Universe, Gamera: The Advent Of Legion, Gamera: Revenge Of Iris. Of if you have an interest and can't find them, drop me a PM and I will gladly burn you copies. See, glad ya got me started??? Gleason, you are my hero. When i was little I absolutely loved Gamera. I always remember that Gamera would come face to face with the victim of the bad guy (whoever it was) after he saved him/her, and then fly off peacefully to his little hole. Ultraman was a favorite of mine when I could catch it on Saturday mornings, I think it was on Fox. That guy had to have been an early inspiration for the Power Rangers, he looked just like them. Now you see what you got me started on?

    14lb newborn

QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 10:31 AM) The Big enchilada Mom has big baby No. 3, 'Big Enchilada' By JOHN HARTZELL Associated Press Writer Published June 29, 2005 MILWAUKEE -- Weighing in at 13 pounds, 12 ounces, Delaney Jessica Buzzell isn't your average newborn. Her parents have even dubbed her the "Big Enchilada." The baby headed home Tuesday after being delivered by Caesarean section on June 23 -- a surprising three weeks early. Her family isn't quite sure what to make of her weight. The father is 6-foot-2 and the mother is 5-foot-7, and nurse Judy Nadolski described them as "regular-sized." "We're pretty normal," 34-year-old Paul Buzzell said. Nadolski said carrying the baby in her arms was like holding a 4- or 5-month-old infant. The diapers and baby T-shirts also were a little on the snug side. "It was ready for a steak," the nurse said. "It had quite an appetite." This isn't the first supersized baby for Paul and Robin Buzzell, from suburban Mequon. Their now-4-year-old daughter, Cameron, was born weighing 11 pounds, 8 ounces, and their second child, Alexis, now 2, weighed in at 10 pounds, 8 ounces when she was born. When Cameron was born, Paul Buzzell said he posted a sign on the door that said "Home of the Whopper." When their second child was born, Buzzell put up a sign describing her as "Whopper Jr." With the birth of the "Big Enchilada," the Buzzells say their family is now complete. "This will be the last one," Paul Buzzell said. The child weighs near double the average newborn. And according to the National Center for Health Statistics, less than 1 percent of babies weigh more than 11 pounds at birth. * __ Associated Press writer Ryan Nakashima in Milwaukee also contributed to this report. Ouch, ouch, ouch!!!!! And this baby was 3 weeks EARLY?!?!?! That lady had 36 pounds of newborn baby in the form of 3 children. Thats just crazy. And then to top it off, the parents arent huge by any means.
  23. QUOTE(bmags @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 01:25 AM) that was the best show i've ever been to. Great place to see a show and if you can find a band you like take advantage of it. The skyline behind the stage is awesome. Isaac and co. were on top of things tonight...pretty good setlist but a few songs i absolutely was thrilled to here (ex. broke, 3rd planet, tiny cities made of ashes) Im not a big Modest Mouse fan, but I am glad to hear that the venue is cool. 311 is playing there next month, I am thinking about trying to score some tickets even though it is sold out.
  24. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 08:44 AM) Call me crazy...but maybe because he battled a Rex-like dino in the original. Plus there was the stegasarus on the island in the original. Oh...also the Pterydactyl. It's a lost island where time stood still. Anybody here ever see the original??? I have, you are correct about T Rex. In the orginal King Kong defeated rex by grabbing both sides of his jaws and prying them apart. I am excited about this movie, and dont mind saying so. The problem nowadays is that people put too much stock in reality when science fiction/fantasy movies come out. Its a friggin movie about a humungous gorilla who falls in love with a animal 1/100th of its size and defends her. How can the movie be awful because T Rex is in it?
  25. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 28, 2005 -> 11:47 PM) Yes but if your in the ocean and a shark decides your food you are pretty much screwed, or something in the ocean your helpless.... So what? If you live in California, Florida, The Rockies, the Appalacians(sp?), a Puma could decide you are food and you are screwed. If you live in Florida, Louisiana, Georgia (any of the southern states) an Alligator could decide you are food and you are screwed. If you live in Alaska, Wyoming, (mostly northern states) a grizzly could decide you are food and you are screwed(in fact, it happened just 22 days ago http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/06/27/bear.attack.ap/index.html). A large variety of predatory animals exist around us, and being completely afraid of them and avoiding everywhere they exist just isnt part of my lifestyle. Sometimes s*** happens. Like the kid who had his leg amputated. He confused the shark, the shark wasnt hungry for human blood. The kid was reeling in a fish when the shark attacked, the fish was thrashing in the water and there was fish blood in the water, the shark just honed in on the activity. Alligators attack people in Florida about as frequently as sharks attack people.(http://www.southeasternoutdoors.com/wildlife/reptiles/fatal-alligator-attacks.html) Are you saying that anyone who is in a car accident has a chance to swerve out of the way? Thats utterly ridiculous, it is offensive to anyone who has had someone die in a car wreck. What are you basing this on? Tiger Sharks are known to be one of the most aggressive species of shark. And they are much bigger sharks, making the need for their food source to be bigger. http://www.njscuba.net/biology/sw_fish_sha...hore.html#Tiger
