Swisher hitting .191 this month.
-
Our pitching actually sucks balls now. Hopefully KW can get us some pitching.

Where are all these people who were claiming Vazquez was our best pitcher just a month ago.
-
There's our best pitcher!

QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 10:24 AM) If I'm looking to deal for Halladay, I give up Vazquez and a couple of prospects. And I'm pretty sure that the Jays wouldn't be interested in that. No, they would be. Vazquez is the ace of our staff and the most underrated player in baseball. Who wouldn't want him on their team?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 08:14 PM) You had to figure they had a chance when Detroit only had 4 runs when it seemed they should have 10. Of course it didn't look good with 2 out and nobody on in the 9th. This team is winning games it should lose. You have to like their chances. They are certainly doing that in the last couple of games. I wouldn't say that was the case earlier in the season when we clearly lost games we should have won based on poor execution. I just think that stuff is just going to even out at this point. Still, as great as this win was, I'm getting concerned about the injuries piling up. Earlier in the week I was all for adding a starter, but now bullpen help may be more necessary. And with Fields needing to contribute who knows if that gets done at all.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 10:17 PM) He gets on base at about a .350-.360 clip, hits for above average power, and does so while playing pretty good defense at a premium position. That's a stud to me. It's not in Carlos Quentin territory, but Swisher's a player I want on the team for 3-5 more years. Swisher has a good OBP but he does not hit for above average power. His .763 OPS means he's at best middle of the road in hitting. He's got potential to be better of course judging by his prior seasons but no way would I classify him as a stud in a Sox uniform.

So can we trade for a reliever without using Fields? -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 22, 2008 -> 08:12 PM) Crede and Cabrera are gone next year and will be replaced with Fields/3Bbroughtinfromoutside and, likely, Ramirez. Quentin and Swisher look like studs, and Brian Anderson is still waiting to claim a spot. Age is one thing I am not worried about with this team. In what world does Nick Swisher look like a stud?

Why do our pitchers give up runs in every inning after the Sox score? It happened twice today. -
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 04:22 PM) From now through the end of the 2009 season Javier Vazquez will be a more valuable major league starter than Justin Duchsherer. That is my bold prediction for the day. I would take that bet any day of the week. Duch would have to fall off considerably and Vazquez would need a stroke of good luck. Still very possible because you're talking about a guy with basically no track record as a starter versus a guy with good stuff who's always an underachiever. But Duch would have to fall very hard (his track record as a stud reliever makes me think he'll be at worst a 4 ERA guy) whereas Vazquez would pretty much need another career season.

I agree in the sense that I would never boo my own players but I can also see why some people would. Konerko might have helped bring a WS ring to Chicago, but at the same time, he's been very well compensated for his efforts. At this rate the Sox will pay him $36M for what amounts to a lifetime achievement award because it looks he sure as hell won't be earning that money with his play.

Can we just release him? -
Whatever limited trade chips we have should be going towards obtaining another starter. If we can't get a starter then Street is more appealing but the rotation is in worse shape than our bullpen. If you're worried about Linebrink and his arm fatigue issues, then Jose Contreras should have you traumatized.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 20, 2008 -> 02:16 PM) Oh... Like Christian Guzman when he's a FA after this season? We could sign him for 2-3 years which should give Beckham enough time. Christian Guzman is not a true leadoff hitter. He's a guy with speed having a good season. -

Does Quentin even have a walk this month? Is Uribe his hitting coach all of a sudden? -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 20, 2008 -> 12:38 PM) I have a bad feeling our starting pitching will be in the bottom half in ERA during the 2nd half of the season. At this point, I am having a hard time seeing an area where the Sox are better than the Twins. Probably bullpen but that's it. -

Game over in the 1st inning. What a f***ing pathetic home effort the last few games. 3-3 before this game. If you're going to be a s*** road team, you have to dominate at home. -
There is nothing to address with Konerko. It's either they trade him somewhere or he's starting at 1B for the Sox. They're not going to have the $12M team captain sitting on the bench.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 06:33 PM) Jose is our 5th starter, and he'll rebound to an extent. He's never going to be 2005-2006 Jose again, but as a #5 starter he'll be fine. Our biggest pitching issues are getting Jenks back healthy (which sounds set to be done Friday) and getting Vazquez back on track. Javy is our closest thing to a pitching problem right now, but he's shown he can rebound from bad stretches before. Hopefully the extra several days off does him good. Also would be nice to figure out what's going on with Linebrink. I'd really like to see if we could find a decent starter. With Konerko, I'm thinking no matter how horrible he is, they're not going to pull the plug on him. I mean, the Captain riding the bench? Just can't see it. -

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 05:33 PM) I hate this f***ing team. NONE of them hit away from this joke of a ballpark not even the great Josh hamilton. Kinsler and Bradley still are pretty good hitters on the road. Check out the home/away splits for Crede, Konerko, Swisher, and Dye. Those are terrible. -
