  1. There's plenty of blame to go around for this pathetic hitting. Thome, Konerko, and Swisher deserve their share. I don't think these guys can be replaced other than Swisher. On the other hand, I don't think it's a coincidence that pretty much every player wearing a Sox uniform the last few years has a long, loopy, lift & pull swing. I don't really understand the reluctance to part with Walker. It can't get worse. It could get better.
  2. QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 1, 2008 -> 10:25 AM) The only thing is its not like BA is hitting the crap out of the ball either.Your offense is sad when people get excited over a guy who is hitting .240. BA is hitting .240? He's hitting .221 with no power and a low OBP. I hate Nick Swisher as much as the next guy, but nothing infuriates me more than talk of the magical Brian Anderson MVP Express that will save the White Sox season. Anderson is all glove and no bat. The more you see him hit, the less you like him. With Swisher, there is potential he can regain his previous form. With Anderson, the best you can hope for is that he might hit enough to justify a stay on the major league roster. Swisher has been adequate in CF this year, so it's not like you've got Mackowiak playing center for you where it's just a total embarassment. As such, I'll take the drop off in defense for the hitting potential. Maybe I'm in the minority. Swisher's not going to get better with his ass on the bench. I would not mind Anderson playing if they want to DL Paulie, though.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 31, 2008 -> 07:30 PM) How about the Tigers? The Tigers have scored 261 runs to our 238. What is your point?
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 31, 2008 -> 07:26 PM) Yet you offer no names for a replacement. The problem is not the coach. Its the mix of hitters. It took KW a couple of years before he figured he had to do something serious with the bullpen. He has been just as slow to react with the stagnant offense. The mix of hitters would be fine if they were hitting up to their potential. I would like to see a more balanced lineup but it doesn't mean the Sox should be languishing near the bottom of baseball when it comes to hitting. None of these guys have close to the right approach. Maybe it's not all Walker's fault but if he's so powerless to do anything about it, why even have a hitting coach at all? If I had access to KW's information, I'm sure I could come up with a competent list of replacements. Are you trying to say there's only a handful of guys fit enough to be hitting coaches in the majors?
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 31, 2008 -> 07:24 PM) If the hitting coach needs to get "s***canned" because the team got shut down by Shields and Kazmir and Andy Sonnenstine... and Jered Weaver... and Joe Saunders.... and Aaron Laffey... and Dustin McGowan ... and Jesse Litsch... and Shawn Marcum ... The Sox seem to get shut down more than any other team except the Royals.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 31, 2008 -> 07:17 PM) Eddie Murray got fired because he was a miserable schmuck. That's also why Walt Hriniak and Gary Ward got the boot with the White Sox. Walker is highly respected and liked by the players. The only name anyone mentions is Baines. He won't be the hitting coach. Any other names? The fear of the great unknown. I too am worried the Sox wouldn't be able to maintain their 26th best hitting pace without the steady hand of Greg Walker.
  7. QUOTE (Wanne @ May 31, 2008 -> 07:59 PM) The DBacks fired hitting coach Kevin Seitzer...and went on to win their division. Just sayin....... It's not like teams don't do this all the time. Eddie Murray got fired in Cleveland in '05 and the Indians stormed back from under .500 to almost catch the Sox. Hitting coaches are hired and fired all the time. Unless Greg Walker has bought you dinner, I don't see why anyone here would support keeping him. Our hitters look clueless at the plate.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 31, 2008 -> 08:03 PM) Who should be the hitting coach? Not Greg Walker.
  9. Kenny better do something with this pathetic hitting offense. And I'm not talking about a speedy 2nd baseman either. I think that's the least of our problems. Outside of Quentine and Dye (sometimes) this team has zero run producers. Please get some.
  10. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 31, 2008 -> 06:31 PM) That's essentially the ball game. No. Game was over in the 4th when Tampa got the 2nd run.
  11. Well, I complained about us not hitting with RISP yesterday. So naturally we've only had one guy reach 2nd base today.
  12. QUOTE (Capn12 @ May 31, 2008 -> 06:15 PM) Really? Let me know what that is...because I'll take Andersons upside (the top notch defense in CF) anyday over Nick Swisher right now. Swisher's upside is he can play like a high level baseball player again, (sor of like he's done the last 2 season). Anderson's upside is that he might stick as a backup outfielder.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 31, 2008 -> 06:13 PM) I'll bet his numbers would look significantly better than Swisher's if he was playing every day. Innocent until proven guilty.
  14. Next person to suggest Swisher should be benched in favor of Anderson should just.............. At least Swisher has an upside.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 31, 2008 -> 06:58 PM) There really isn't much he can do at this point. The guys who aren't hitting have pretty much moved themselves in to the "Unmovable" category with their lack of hitting. I think Swisher is movable. Thome and Konerko not so much. But it doesn't mean we have to keep running them out there if they're hitting .200. There will be some bats available. I don't think you can let this type of pitching go to waste.
  16. I want to cry after watching this team hit. KW needs to get to work.
  17. I am going to say 2 groundouts right side and a strikeout.
  18. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 31, 2008 -> 06:39 PM) in their defense, the sox have been hitting the ball HARD Maybe the last two innings. We had 2 pop-outs and 2 strike-outs in innings 2 and 3.
  19. I'm about ready to throw in the towel on today's game. Rays score another run and it's over.
  20. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 31, 2008 -> 06:12 PM) that's my hope, keep it a one run game and get into that pen. Yeah, maybe we can make some contact against Al Reyes' high 80s fastball tonight.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ May 31, 2008 -> 06:09 PM) What happened? Dove for the ball and tried to make an out. Ball got by him. So he basically turned a single into a double which lead directly to a run.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 31, 2008 -> 05:50 PM) Honestly, I'm happy. I was honestly starting to think they'd send BA down and hold on to Wise to keep the LH bat. I think I would rather have Wise.
