  1. QUOTE (G&T @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 08:02 PM) That may be true but it's not like he's wild. He's working his pitches. That might mean something if the Sox had any sort of decent approach at the plate. Instead, it was the same thing all game and I'd say probably 75% of our outs were popups.
  2. Anybody ever hear of Dana Eveland? Me neither. Tomorrow should be interesting.
  3. QUOTE (G&T @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 07:58 PM) Wow. People can say whatever they want about the offense tonight, but Greg Smith is having one hell of a game. The list of unknown scrubs having "one hell of a game" against the White Sox over the last few years is pretty long.
  4. Looks like Greg Walker is back to doing his job these last few games.
  5. I hope this is Buehrle's last inning. I don't want him facing Sweeny or Suzuki again. Let's get Dotel up.
  6. Wow, good hustle by Swisher but it's risky. But hey can't blame him given our hitting.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 07:33 PM) You know, reading this thread about how Bad Buehrle's doing, you'd think he'd given up like 7 or 8 runs. He's given up 2 runs through 6, and both of them are the direct result of Mike Sweeney. Well, everything is relative. But I agree it's our pathetic hitting that is losing us this game.
  8. Buehrle was throwing 88 on his fastball and 78 on his changeup to Mark Ellis.
  9. Well, we got some help early in the inning but it was still a very good inning for our hitters.
  10. Tone for this game was set early. We had runners on 2nd and 3rd with 0 outs in the 1st inning and only got one run with our 3-4-5 hitters. That was really bad. Contreras wasn't good but wasn't bad either. He's frustrating to watch but the results are acceptable. If he goes into the 7th while giving up 3 runs, that's a game you have to win if you're a playoff team.
  11. Provided there's no DP, we've got 3 chances to hit a 2-run HR. Let's do it.
  12. QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 9, 2008 -> 08:42 PM) i know its only an outing and a half, but masset looks good again I agree with that... and wasn't he considered a SP prospect at one point? Maybe he can do that at some point. On the other hand, there's certainly an advantage in coming into the game when the other team is up big. I know the Cleveland game ended up being close but I still think the other team has a tendency to letdown after getting a big lead.
  13. By the way, was Danks throwing his cutter at all tonight? I thought that was the new Coop approved magic pitch.
  14. QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Apr 9, 2008 -> 08:28 PM) Danks wasn't making bad pitches in the 3rd. The Twins just lead the league in getting ducksnorts and seeing eye singles. They nickel and dimed us to death. You can't blame Danks for that inning, he just ran into bad luck. The 1st, however you can blame him for. Come on now. The Twins didn't hammer him or anything but his location was still bad, he couldn't get his breaking ball over, and there were periods where he couldn't throw strikes at all. It was a bad outing.
  15. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Apr 9, 2008 -> 08:21 PM) I don't buy that at all. Me neither. It's pretty stupid to be talking in absolutes in April. Plenty of things can change in the next 2 months.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 9, 2008 -> 08:19 PM) that won't happen....we're living or dying with this starting 5. Well, do you think this starting 5 can get us to the playoffs? I think Danks/Floyd/Contreras are all good #4 and #5 starters but I don't know that you can get away with having all 3 of them in the same rotation.
  17. I think much of this season will ride on whether or not the Sox can squeeze out another starting pitcher by trading away prospects from our lowly farm system.
  18. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 8, 2008 -> 04:27 PM) Christ, the season is over after 7 games? Would you please step the f*** back and realize that there are 155 left? Seriously, it's April. I love that the Tigers suck, but they aren't going to go 0-162, and they aren't going to finish in last place (barring some more injuries to their lineup). I don't think it's too early to write off the Tigers. Bad pitching is bad pitching whether it's 10 or 110 games into the season. They're a .500 team or slightly above that if they start hitting, and even that is questionable. Last year's team had a bunch of guys at their career bests, not unlike 2006 Sox, so it's not out of the question their offense will be worse this season (not "last place" worse, but middle of the pack).
