  1. Javy looking good which is the best thing about this game so far. He might even get through 7.
  2. How the hell was Cabrera out by a mile on that play? Was he not running or something?
  3. Beautiful job by Uribe. Too bad Cora isn't coaching 3rd on that play.
  4. Damn it. So close. Can't strand another runner here guys.
  5. Twins Punch and Judy hitters and Vazquez are sucking all life out of this game. Crowd sounds dead and I just caught myself yawning.
  6. More runners stranded. Bleh. Let's hope Javy gets into a grove as this game's going to played at just under 6 hours at this rate.
  7. Sweet K there. Out of the inning. I don't like how this game is going. It seems like we're always on our heels. Hopefully we can get a lead and maybe Javy can be more aggresive. He seemed to be more accurate with his breaking pitches to Young.
  8. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 08:49 PM) They will eventually hit, but if they can't improve their bullpen, its going to be tough for them. It's not even their bullpen, although that sucks too. But after Verlander they don't exactly have much depth in their starting rotation either. Rogers is old and coming off injury, Bonderman (who I liked) is up and down, N-Rob and Willis both blow.
  9. I'm hesitant to do it to another team, but if it were the White Sox starting 0-6 with that pitching, I'd probably be writing us off at this point. Detroit looks f***ed with a capital F.
  10. LOL at Dombrowski having to answer questions while his team is imploding on the field.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 01:13 PM) Contreras has no business still being a starting pitcher in the AL. He'll be out of the starting rotation soon enough. Who's going to replace him?
  12. QUOTE(zenryan @ Apr 2, 2008 -> 05:43 PM) difference between our team and good teams is 2 out hitting. They also have a pretty competent bottom of the order (notice I didn't say good). Our bottom guys hack, pop up, and strike out. They're not very good fundamental hitters.
  13. I'd consider this team much more of a contender with Garland as opposed to Cabrera. As much as I hate Uribe, I think you lose much more in going from Garland to one of Danks/Floyd than you do in going from Uribe to Cabrera. I'd like Cabrera much more if the Sox had acquired a true lead-off hitter allowing O-Cab to settle in that 2nd spot. Ideally, the Sox could now deal Konerko and fill a couple of holes that way.
  14. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Dec 14, 2007 -> 11:29 PM) So tell us how you would have accomplished it. He did everything in his power to accomplish it. What would you have done differently to get these deals done? Whether or not these deals could or couldn't be done is irrelavent. Kenny Williams, knowing our payroll and prospect situation, thought he had enough to get both deals done. That was his plan. It's not necessarily his fault another team outbid him for Hunter or gave up more prospects for Cabrera, but he should have seen those possibilities coming. So it remains to be seen if Williams swung and missed on a couple of deals or got caught with his pants down. The former is excusable but the latter is not. He's still got time to get some things done. The problem now is the free agent market has dried up in terms of impact players and, unlike Cabrera, I can't think of many players available through trade who would really be worth giving up our best prospects.
  15. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 07:35 PM) Glad we have Cabrera over his ass. I would gladly take Eckstein at $4.5M for one season AND Jon Garland as our #3 starter/trading chip over Cabrera. Plus, we wouldn't be worried about adding a leadoff hitter.
  16. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 03:25 PM) Frankensteiner, don't take this the wrong way, but what happened to you? Early in 06, when the Sox were winning, you were completely against the grain, and I didn't agree with ANYTHING you said. Unless you have been totally sarcastic the last few months, ever since the middle of this last season, you have been completely level headed, and a real solid poster. I dunno. I guess in '06 people were generally positive because we were coming off a WS win and all that. But our pitching was pretty bad that season, and I saw our offense overachieving 1st half, and I didn't think we were as good people here were making it seem. Hence my negativity. However, now that we're coming off a 72-win season, I think people are overreacting and being overly negative. This team is not as bad as they showed last season. We had guys underachieving across the board. This is not a WS contending team either at this point, but it could be a pretty good team with a couple of good moves and some luck (which is a staple of every WS team, imo). And I still think we have time to make some moves seeing as how it's early December. I agree with you that rebuilding is absolutely ridiculous, though. We waited all this time to be a big-market team and now we're going to give it all away? That's just dumb. Although I will admit that if this is the roster going into the season, I will be pissed.
  17. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 07:26 AM) I'm so f***ing sick of the "Firesale" post. It's more unrealistic than the posts "Lets trade Crede for Haeger for Lincecum". Having a so called "firesale" aka Marlins style would probably be the WORST thing this organization could do. You can't just trade Konerko-Dye-Thome-Vazquez-Crede-Jenks. You do that, and some of you are going to get your wish. The Sox will be exactly like the Marlins. Suck, and have about 500 people in the stands. Like it or not, the organization is still working off the World Series, and will for as long as possible. If you were in the same position Williams-Reinsdorf, or even Boyer is, you would do the same thing. You need to have players to sell tickets. It's a business. You make the proposed deals in this thread, for the next 3 years this team wins 50 ball games a season. By the time the Sox got back to respectability, assuming that even happened, there wouldn't be much money for a payroll, considering the terrible attendance that would surely happen. Saying "Lets have a FIRESALE!!" is easy, but it just isn't realistic, or even very smart. The Sox need to continue to spend over the next few years, but at the same time, re-commit to the the farm system and scouting, which it sounds like they are going to start to do, while also not getting tied down in terrible contracts. Huge 5 year deals need to be avoided at this point. They still need stars to sell and have fans identify with. Your sig is f***ing joke. This is probably the best thing I've read here in the last 6 months.
  18. It wouldn't be a terrible idea, but how are we more likely to find our CFer of the future next season? Is there another good crop of CF free agents? What we really need is like a 4 or 5 year stopgap.
  19. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 11:24 AM) Let me ask you folks this. Everyone here seemed to throw up in despair yesterday and declare the season horribly, horribly lost. Let's imagine this, we do a Fields and Gio for Bedard swap (just accept the principle for a second). We also sign Rowand, blowing $30 million a year on keeping those 2. Does that make us an AL Central contender to your eyes? How much better does that make us that what we have right now, and is it worth that kind of money for those upgrades? If people are so insistent on believing that KW fouled up and we're screwed no matter what this year because the Tigers and Indians are so good, then wasting money locking ourselves in to long term, piecemeal upgrades is not going to solve that problem. Replace Rowand with Fuku and I like that team as much the Tigers or Indians, but I doubt most people here would agree.
  20. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 10:23 AM) I said the Red Sox and the Yankees stockpiled draft picks and made good decisions even thought they never went through a set of losing seasons aka a bad period. I think the problem for the White Sox in regards to their minor leagues is talent evaluation more than losing a couple of draft picks.
  21. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 10:14 AM) Well I am so glad that the franchise decided to play the likes of Pods and Erstad trying to win meaningless games in September that killed our draft. The minute september 1st showed up, they should of told every vet hey we are going to see what we have. 3 less wins and we are right in the middle of the Alvarez sweepstakes. We should be attempting to gain as many draft picks as possible. This is how good teams like the Redsox and the Yanks have rebuilt their system. They never went through that bad period like the Tigers that allowed for the low draft picks. They made some good decisions, and amassed draft picks. The currency today is prospects. We need a complete replenishing over the next 3 years to have enough chips to compete. The Yankees and Red Sox went through a bad period like the Tigers?
