  1. This game is going as expected. Buehrle's getting rocked and the offense will likely have trouble scoring. All that stuff about us turning a corner yesterday was nonsense.
  2. This reminds me of the Twins series at the Cell. A couple of close losses and then a blowout to end the series. I don't think this team has turned a corner, and I still expect inconsistency down the stretch. Twins and the Tigers are playing poorly, though, so maybe we can sneak in. A great performance by Jose tonight. I didn't think he was injured, just out of whack, and I believe this proves it. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 09:27 PM) Completely agree, a Tigers sweep would be huge especially if the Sox can take care of business Vs the Indians. If the Sox lay an egg against the Indians and the Tigers sweep the Twins, the Sox are still right there in the Wild Card race. If the Sox sweep the Indians to go along with a Tigers sweep of the Twins, the Sox are looking at a 3 game (in the L column) buffer on a playoff spot. There's way more upside to a Tiger sweep than to a Twins sweep. That's the way I'm seeing it. Say the Twins sweep and we end up splitting with Cleveland. That puts us at 3 back of both teams... not good.
  3. QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 08:49 PM) Even though we've been horses*** for the past couple of weeks, with the Tigers and Twins losing tonight we're still right there. That means this has got to be our year! 2003 called... they want their motto back.
  4. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 08:43 PM) Just think ... if our starters pitch like this every night the rest of the way we'll make the playoffs. What are the odds of that happening? 1000-1?
  5. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 08:39 PM) What is the pitch count for Count? 90
  6. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 08:34 PM) Well, if we only split this wknd, and then go on to struggle on the west coast, we're not going to make the playoffs. Sooner or later, we have to start winning more games than we lose. If we split and Twins get swept, we'd be in the wild card lead. And Minny has to play a slightly harder schedule than Detroit.
  7. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 08:33 PM) That's a bad loss for the Twins. To be going for the sweep, and get that type of start for Silva, that's a game they have to feel like got away. They also went a pathetic 3-3 against Tampa/KC.
  8. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 08:28 PM) This is why the Twins need to sweep this weekend. We play good ball this weekend, the division could look a WHOLE lot different. Tigers got some major problems. Eh, I don't know about that. We'll be 5 back if we hang on and win against Boston. With the way we've been playing, I don't see anything more than a split against Cleveland. If the Twins sweep, we'd now be 3 back against both Minny and Detroit while heading to Oakland/Anaheim. Plus Detroit has a much easier schedule, even if they are playing poorly.
  9. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 08:27 PM) Don't forget all the bullpen guys...Howry, Grilli, Majewski, Rauch, El Duque, etc. Well, his return did coincide with the start of their slide...clubhouse issues maybe? Maybe his court issues also? After checking, he was their #3 hitter TODAY. So strange.
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 08:24 PM) His brother got released by the Tigers today. Ex-Sox players are having very strong years, as Frank, Valentin, Norton, and Durham have looked very strong this season. Wait, Dmitri Young got released? He was their #3 hitter last week. That's a little... strange.
  11. QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 07:23 PM) JD = Frank Thomas circa 1994. I think he's more like Derek Lee circa 2005.
  12. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 01:10 PM) Anderson = Garland for 2006 They both had 2 horrendous months which fried thier stats for the season yet have picked it up substantially over the past 3 months improving thier season stats but not to the point where it's going to look anywhere near excellent when the season ends. Garland turned his season around on June 13, Anderson; June 11th. Perhaps if people ditched the lame ass "hall of fame" and "man crush" s*** and actually paid attention to the play on the field there wouldn't be the same f***ing arguments in 5 threads right now. Wow, just wow. Jon Garland going on a 12-1 tear with a sub 3 ERA is not even remotely similar to what Anderson's been doing. Garland's been one of top 5 pitchers in all of baseball during that span. Anderson wasn't even a top 5 player on his own team.
  13. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 01:08 PM) Give me a f***in break. You can cherry pick a f***in bad week for Alex Rodriguez and Albert Pujols. Oh please. The guy's got a .663 OPS on the season. That's f***ing terrible. There's no cherry picking there.
  14. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Sep 6, 2006 -> 01:04 PM) A lot of it is because he's one of the few that actually look like they give a damn in the second half. He's looked pretty clueless over the last week. I'm not sure that's my definition of giving a damn.
  15. I don't mind anything Ozzie said about Anderson because he has had a very dissappointing season, and before the cheerleaders can put down their pom poms and rush to the computer, two decent months do not a season make. I don't understand why Anderson has a Hall of Fame wing here at soxtalk.
  16. Buehrle will stay on schedule to get rocked at Thursday's series opener against Cleveland.
  17. QUOTE(beautox @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 08:17 PM) Javy giving a BIG MIDDLE FINGER to the doubters. A big middle finger to the doubters would have been a string of good performances in July, August, and September. This isn't it.
  18. A loss like this wouldn't have hurt at all in June or July. I'd be pretty excited about Javy's performance.
  19. This sets the stage for a Konerko DP to end the game.
  20. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 07:59 PM) I'll pass with every one of this butt Pods. You guys are nuts if you want to tell me that Guchi, Paulie or Uribe aren't trying. Its one thing if you want to yell and curse at them, but they play the game hard. It's not that Konerko's not trying, he's just captain retard when it comes to hitting approach. Guys should play hard and they should play smart. One of the two isn't good enough.
  21. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 07:52 PM) The only guys I feel are really busting their ass are Ozuna, Sandy, Gload, and Mackowiak. We should probably just go with an Ozuna/Mackowiak platoon in LF. See if we can dump Ozzie's buddies and invest that money into acquiring a competent SS.
  22. Konerko is a f***ing joke. I really had no problem letting him go to LAA in the off-season.
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 07:47 PM) I think Roberts is going to get a lot of money this offseason though, as his numbers are real good. I'm still a huge fan of making a run at Mathews Jr. for LF. He's slowed down the last couple of months.
