  1. memo to Freddy: Tampa Bay f***ing sucks. Start pitching like it.
  2. Well, even Freddy should be able to hold this lead. We just need to hold off the rain for another 2 and a half innings.
  3. Fossum used to be a pretty hyped up prospect with the BoSox, IIRC. He looks awful, though.
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 07:41 PM) It seemed pretty obvious. So then the question is why in the world are we hitting a guy who has done nothing against us other than possibly give us 3 free runs? EDIT: Not disagreeing with you fathom, just trying to understand what we're doing in that situation.
  5. Did Garcia plunk him on purpose? It was on the first pitch and I can't watch the game at this time so I'm curious.
  6. Let's blow this game open, guys. Don't mess around with these losers.
  7. QUOTE(The Critic @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 08:07 AM) My point is that it's unrealistic to expect a team to get to the World Series in consecutive years, and while I hope like hell that the Sox get there, I haven't expected it at any time. It depends on the type of team and the amount of talent on that team. I doubt managment or the coaches thought it was unrealistic at the start of the season, what with the greatest 5 man rotation ever and the best 3-4-5 hitters ever.
  8. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 04:18 PM) There aren't many things that the Sox NEED. Not one of our hitters is so essential that someone else can't pick up the slack. But I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that this team NEEDS Mark Buehrle down the stretch and into the postseason, if we are to have any hope of winning another WS. Great game, Mark. Well played all around. Now rest, if you remember how, and get after it again on Tuesday. Also, J4l, I wouldn't read too much into the length of the winner thread. A winner thread last night would have been much longer. Late & tight games always get the biggest reaction. Plus, it's usually quiet here on Sunday nights, tomorrow is an off-day, etc. I don't know if we necessarily need Buehrle, but we do need at least one other pitcher to give us solid starts for the rest of the season. I don't think that's Garcia (unless those side sessions actually get his velocity back up) or Vazquez, and Contreras looks terrible, so it does look as if Buehrle is our best bet right now. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 05:06 PM) My excuse is I was actually at the game. Great game. Buerhle pitched well, and shockingly when we have our entire starting lineup out there outside of Gload at 1st, we seem to win. Its time to end the Mack/Anderson platoon. There is no reason for it. Mack is a utlity guy/pinch hitter. He is not a starting CF. Anderson had some nice ABs today. If Vaz or Contreras falter early in there next start, we need to quickly insert bmac and get him up to about 70-80 pitches. Then insert him into the rotation for x pitcher. Either contreras is hurting more than he is letting on or whatever. If he bombs again, put him on the DL, then get him healthy for the playoffs. On September 1 we need to call up Tracey. This will allow him to take bmacs place as the long guy in the pen and allow bmac to start. If Buerhle gets his head on straight and pitches more like this, Garland and bmac we can still win this. 3 out of 5 starters pitching well is better than only 1 or 2 out of them. Ozzie is not going to start McCarthy. He repeated that today:
  9. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 02:45 AM) We're .500 (16-16) since his DFA if I've got my numbers right. So there you go. Don't forget Politte. Those guys were holding us back.
  10. That sound you keep hearing is the cash register in Scott Boras' office.
  11. Can we all agree the Sox should not lose more than one game next week... if they're serious about making the playoffs, I mean.
  12. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 02:45 PM) I agree, he needs to do it again, but he has to start somewhere. It's nice it's against the Twins. It's also great that we have our best D out there to prevent unearned runs. We both know it's not a permanent change so I can't get too excited about it. We might see this unit out there once next week.
  13. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 02:39 PM) I'm a heck of a lot happier about the way Mark is pitching today. The hitting is gravy. At this point, it's only one game. Right now I'm just thinking "fluke." I've seen this game before: Vazquez @ Toronto and Jose vs. Detroit a couple of weeks back.
  14. This is what our hitters live for. Flood gates open and everybody plays without pressure. It's like 2001-2004 again.
  15. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 02:33 PM) Good thing he didn't show up today. Well, at the start of this game all signs pointed to another meltdown. He's pitched very well though.
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 02:32 PM) I think he said this after the rocket double. By vintage Buehrle, he meant 8.10 ERA in August. It's a 5.10 ERA in August, btw.
  17. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 02:31 PM) Dear God, it's fun seeing vintage Mark. jinx.
  18. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 02:25 PM) It'd be a big help to the Sox if Silva now can remember he sucks balls. Add Nick Punto, Jason Tyner, Mike Redmond, and Jason Bartlett.
