  1. 6 more outs and we've got ourselves a pathetic loss. Unreal.
  2. Was there anybody warming in the pen, or are we going to play another round of Russian Roulette with Vazquez?
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 01:49 PM) And the home run or nothing approach isn't going to do much when we face Santana/Liriano, etc. Exactly. Plus, Konerko's approach already hurt us in the 1st inning today. All he needed was a single to continue our rally.
  4. Vazquez practically has a staredown with the ump in just about every game. It wouldn't surprise if he was getting squeezed.
  5. 5 of Konerko's last 7 hits have been HRs. Hooray for smartball.
  6. I never want to see Vazquez pitch another game for the Sox. Never. I'll take Garcia's 86 mph meatballs over this any day of the weak. At least Freddy's got some nuts.
  7. With Abreu, I think the Yankees are clearly ahead of us right now on paper. Our bullpen is better, but that's about our only clear advantage. Their lineup might be too left-handed, though.
  8. DO IT!!! As far as I'm concerned, I would include anyone in this deal as long as it's not McCarthy.
  9. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 01:11 PM) With the Yankees picking up Abreu and Lidle, the Sox should really make a trade to bolster the offense or starting pitching. Our guys just need to pitch to their potential. They'll be fine.
  10. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 01:07 PM) The back-up CF issue needs to be addressed. I don't know how many times Mackowiak has to show you he can't play CF before Ozzie and KW realize something needs to be done about it. This is a theme this year. Vazquez has shown numerous times he doesn't deserve a starting spot in our rotation but he will likely start in some of the most important games of season. We have very stubborn (or sometimes retarded, in Ozzie's case) managment. There are no stronger bonds than the ones made on the golf course, though.
  11. Paulie picking splinters out of his ass for a couple of games wouldn't necessarily be a bad idea.
  12. Eh, whatever. This win was only enjoyable if you like seeing what you thought was one of our two good starters get pounded by a spiffty team. I guess my biggest problem with the White Sox right now is that we don't really have an identity: there's very few parts, individually or collectively, that we can depend on during the 2nd half push. We're certainly not a "pitching and defense" type team because we're really not very good at either. Garland's been dependable lately, but after a game like today, there's at least some thought that he's been pitching over his head the last 4 weeks or so. And with Garcia, Vazquez, and now appearantly Buehrle all spiffting their pants, we can't afford for Garland to be mediocre. Our offense is better than what we've seen from them post ASB, but I seriously doubt they're as good as they were in the first half. Probably somewhere in-between. With so many undisciplined pull-happy hitters (not to mention guys putting up some career numbers), we're bound to run into a couple of slumps. In that sense, I don't think we can consider ourselves like the Red Sox who have consistant, high OBP hitters and can overcome bad pitching. If KW and Ozzie are too afraid to do anything about our starters, I hope we can swing a deal for someone like Tejada or Soriano. Let's get another highly productive player into this lineup.
  13. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 07:26 PM) Sure, we're not playing very well. However, if we have to count on beating the top teams to rack up our win total, we're going to be screwed. Every one of these wins counts right now. I don't expect us to rack up our win total against good teams. Play .500 ball against them, stay competitive. 3-12 is not competitive.
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 07:22 PM) A win's a win...who cares. 2 days ago, you wouldn't have said this. Actually, I said this team needs to prove itself against good teams earlier in the week (even if they swept the O's & Royals). We're not really playing well, imo, the O's are just playing worse.
  15. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 07:22 PM) When was the last time they won back-to-back games? June? Nice DP. It was (surprise, surprise) against the Orioles earlier in July. I don't think it's coincidence that this is the only team we can beat two in a row this month.
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 07:19 PM) If the Sox were to lose this, it would be their worst loss of the season. I think already might be their worst win on the season, if there is such a thing.
  17. I'm going to bump this and eat some crow here. Willis just got destroyed by Philly tonight: 2.1 IP, 5 H, 8 R, 6 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 2 HR. He's been pretty bad his last 3 starts. I thought he was over his early season struggles but guess not. Willis looks like Vazquez circa 2005.
  18. Jake Peavy would fit in well with this group. Another pitcher above his career numbers. I can see it now, "this guy just needs to pitch up to his potential and we'll be fine."
  19. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 05:33 PM) for a guy who's been on a roll, it's only natural that he's going to have an off day. Glad to see the O supported him. I hope it's an off-day as opposed to "guy on a roll ending his hot streak."
  20. He hasn't had a good change this year, but he's been successful without in this last stretch. I don't think he necessarily needs it to pitch well.
  21. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 05:08 PM) He's not fooling anyone. Fooling hitters is not his game anyway, though.
  22. Turn back the clock night to the first half of 2006.
