  1. Garland better sit these asses down the rest of the game. They're bad, have nothing to play for, and now are down by 5 runs.
  2. I've defended Pods numerous times, and I think he catches way too much crap around here, but these are really horrible ABs he had today.
  3. If we're worth a crap, we absolutely can't lose this game. Our hottest pitcher vs. a minor league scrub from a bad team. That would be pathetic.
  4. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 10:03 PM) Baltimore's bad, but we stayed in the game against someone who's lately been one of the best starters in the majors, and came back against someone who's been one of this year's top closers. If we were facing Rodrigo Lopez, okay. But this is pretty good, however bad Baltimore is, overall. Good point. Teams tend to be as good as their starting pitcher, and Bedard is a pretty good one, so the Orioles team we played today was better than their record on the season.
  5. I don't think we could compete with the Angels offer; Santana is better than McCarthy, and I wouldn't give up McCarthy for Tejada so I don't understand what the Angels are thinking there. Hopefully Santana wasn't really offered (see McCarthy to Nationals talk earlier in the week) and the Sox could interest Baltimore in a lesser package. The Astros offer is garbage, imo. Damaged goods (Lidge) or crappy players (Everett). They might all be major leaguers, but I'd rather take my chances with some high ceiling prospects.
  6. QUOTE(Dan Pasqua @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 09:43 PM) not convinced either. Left 9 on base. 0 fer from dye, crede, konerko until he got a bruise and had to come out. Cant count on ross gload grand slams in the 9th every game Yeah, good point. I like the win and all, but we still played spiffty in general, Garcia looked pretty shaky, and let's face it, Baltimore is a bad team. But who knows, maybe we'll look back on Gload's hit as the biggest one of 2006.
  7. By the way, does anyone else think Gload has the best approach on the team? He's a "professional hitter" if I ever saw one. Knows when to shorten it up, when to go with the pitch, and when to cut it loose. Konerko could hit .400 with 64 dongs if he had Gload's approach.
  8. Where is the Rally Gload? It's 2006, let's get on it.
  9. Bottom 6TH B:0 S:0 O:0 Defensive Substitution: Ross Gload replaces first baseman Paul Konerko, batting 4th, playing first base. Can anyone explain?
  10. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 07:44 PM) I'll blame Williams/company more for failing to move McCarthy into the rotation more than standing pat at the deadline. Exactly. If after the deadline Garcia and Vazquez are still on the team while McCarthy's rotting in the bullpen, we'll know KW and Ozzie are chickenspiff and concerned with something other than winning baseball games.
  11. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 03:28 PM) Soriano isn't coming to the White Sox. Good riddance, this team needs pitching. Seems to me we can't get pitching in trade. And Soriano offers an improvement over what we have. Why wouldn't you want him on the team?
  12. Buehrle seems like the best candidate to improve but I also thought that 2 starts ago and nothing's happened there. I am getting concerned, particularly when Buehrle himself says he's getting hit hard even after hitting his spots. Garcia and Vazquez are both done. I haven't heard too many cases of pitchers regaining their stuff halfway through August so I'm inclined to believe "Flamethrower Freddy" will continue to get killed throughout the season. Vazquez has been bad now for about 2 and a half seasons. As such, I'm not expecting any improvement there. We need to upgrade at least one rotation spot. This can mean acquiring someone like Zito, or something simple like putting McCarthy into the rotation. We'll see what happens and whether or not Kenny and Ozzie are truly interested in winning, or if they're more concerned about not hurting anyone's feelings.
  13. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 04:58 PM) Actually, McCarthy said it himself. He said it would take about 4 starts to get stretched out. Even if he can only throw 40 ---> 80 pitches in his first 3 starts, there's absolutely nothing stopping us from bringing Vazquez out of the 'pen to face the batting order at least twice and help McCarthy get through those starts. We wouldn't be burning out our bullpen.
  14. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 05:02 PM) He's playing favorites with his Latin buddies? The conspiracy theories on this site are getting more and more humorous. I'd like to ask, why is everyone so rock solid certain that Brandon would automatically be lights out as a starter, seeing as he's only been moderately successful in his bullpen role? And not the usual stock answer "well he's better than we have now", I would like to know how people on SoxTalk are able to ascertain with absolute certainty that he'd be better than what's in the rotation now. And no I am not happy with their current results, not one bit. Why is McCarthy the savior though? Sounds like the backup QB syndrome to me. As for what you're so sick of hearing, well, that's the way it goes. There are lots of things I'm sick of hearing too. Well, considering McCarthy was basically our savior last year, there's some form of precedent there. As we've seen in 2005, the guy has the ability to be a very good starter in this league and is being wasted in the bullpen. There's no certainty there, but I'm willing to gamble on McCarthy outperforming Vaz/Garcia down the stretch, especially given how hard they've been hit throughout the season. So we're gambling with the "unknown" (despite evidence of last year's success) in favor of two "known" spiffty quantities. You tell me which is better.
  15. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 04:35 PM) What exactly do you expect him to say? "We're going to trade every player, I'm going to talk to Kenny right now, that is after I talk to everyone at SoxTalk to see who we should trade. But we're keeping McCarthy and we're putting him in the rotation, even though he can throw a max of probably 50 pitches right now." I'm so sick of hearing that. McCarthy would need like 3 starts to get stretched. You can 40 ---> 60 ---> 80 pitches in consecutive starts. We know what's going on though. Ozzie's playing favorites with his latin buddies.
  16. I'm at a point where we could even sweep the O's and Royals and I still wouldn't think very much of this team. We failed against the good teams. This team needs to prove itself against the AL's best for me to become optimistic about their chances.
  17. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 03:13 PM) Honestly, I've learned to take it in stride. I'll be pissed for maybe 10-15 minutes afterwards, and then I don't care. Why should I care longer than that? I don't play. I don't make trades. I don't make managerial changes. fish that. Players, managers, GMs, even owners come and go. Most of the players haven't even been on the Sox for more than 3 years. We've been fans for most of our lives. It's our team, moreso than the players or coaches or managment.
  18. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 04:20 PM) Which both of the three would you like him to get done? Should have said ALL. This loss has me flustered.
  19. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 04:16 PM) Absolutely correct. I made this same point yesterday. This sucks right now, but it is 100 times easier to take after what happened last year. I'm sure glad you can look at it that way. I don't even remember last year anymore.
  20. If Kenny has 3 deals on the table, then he better make sure to get them both done. We're at least 2 non-bench, non-bullpen players away from being competitive.
  21. OK, is time to start looking at Buehrle the same we look at Garcia or Vazquez? I mean, this is 5 horrible starts in a row. I thought he'd pull it together but there doesn't seem to be an end in sight.
  22. QUOTE(maggliopipe @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 01:31 PM) I'm optimistic still (to a fault, admittedly). Some reasons I'm still optimistic include: -Jason Tyner -Jason Bartlett (granted, he was a solid prospect a couple years ago) -Nick Punto -Rondell White -Carlos Silva -Scott Baker It completely befuddles me how this cast of characters is playing .800 ball. One could make the same list w/ Sox players as to why I should be pessimistic, but that's another story. Yeah, I've said this about the Sox when we were hitting so well in the 1st half, and I think the same about the Twins. Tyner, Punto, Bartlett, etc. there's no way these guys stay above .300 for very long. Problem is, you don't necessarily need a great lineup with Liriano and Santana. Might hurt when the other guys are pitching, though. Minnesota will play well, but not at their current pace.
