  1. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 10:04 AM) No it wouldn't. Vazquez = reliever; McCarthy = starter. All done! Not as long as Ozzie = manager.
  2. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 11:19 PM) Neither being a smart fan nor being a blind homer fan lead to anything. But I think intelligent fandom is its own reward. I don't like going through life or a baseball season with my eyes closed, and then whining about smart fans talking about baseball reality. ^^^^ Good post.
  3. The last thing the Sox need is bullpen pitchers or backup outfielders. We need some frontline talent to either improve this slumping line-up, or to improve our rotation (although I'll be happy if McCarthy is given a spot; that would still require a major move to get rid one of the starters, however). People clamored for an end to Politte and Widger. Done and done. Why aren't we winning? Because bench improvements are marginal improvements and make only small differences, if any, in the standings.
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 10:33 PM) Flash Gordon is horrific right now. By right now, do you mean the last 2-3 games? His July ERA is still lower than Bobby's, FWIW. And what would that make Jenks?
  5. QUOTE(zenryan @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 10:33 PM) this is a bad team right now. I dont care what the record or anyone else says. Just look at the record. 59-41 speaks for itself.
  6. I only listened to parts of the game on radio, but it sounded like Jose pitched pretty well. Radio guys made the Bartlett homer sound like a cheapie and the guys on base didn't get on hitting line drives. A 4-3 loss to Santana isn't bad, it's just magnified when you have Vazquez, Garcia, Buehrle, and the offense spiffting the bed in every game the last 2/3 weeks.
  7. I'm sure glad we don't have Politte and Widger holding us back anymore! Look out AL, we upgraded our 24th and 25th roster spots.
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 07:10 PM) Can we have a mulligan? It's amazing to see what you can accomplish when you don't bunt a run over early in the game. Yeah, for the Sox it's a strikeout, groundout, pop-out.
  9. Does Ozzie ever pay attention to things like this? Santana vs LH - .289 / .789 Santana vs RH - .205 / .593 So of course we have a lineup stacked with right-handed hitters.
  10. 5-0 Cleveland over Detroit in the first inning. Just to show how pathetic the Sox offense is right now, Kenny Rogers went into his last start against us having given up 5, 5, 4, 5 runs in consecutive games. He dominated the Sox, of course, and is getting hammered again tonight. 1st and 3rd for Cleveland with 1 out.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 06:28 PM) For me, the minor leagues aren't as important as they were a few years ago. Winning has led to more attendance, and we're now able to have our payroll help us fill holes more. As long as JR is spending money, I have no problem with KW trading prospects for major league ready players. Everyone in baseball knows that our window is 2005-2007. I will disagree with you here. If a team can support a $100 million payroll, then I don't think you have a window. You should stay competetive every year.

  13. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 10:19 PM) I had to follow the game online tonight, and was comforted knowing Ozzie had Cotts warming up in the 6th inning. Will someone please explain to me why he wasn't brought in to face Morneau? Because Vazquez wasn't in-line for the win at that point? I'm being completely serious here, too.
  14. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 10:12 PM) You have to believe that's gonna happen soon. Even if Vaz isn't traded. I mean, our coaching staff isn't that stubborn and unintelligent, is it? Duque and the White Sox were both nearly on their death bed before Ozzie decided to go with McCarthy. And Duque didn't have Vazquez's stuff, his salary, nor did he cost what it took to get Vazquez on the team in terms of talent.
  15. Any deal that nets us Soriano without having to give up McCarthy would be an INCREDIBLE trade.
  16. I don't think you can say Soriano wouldn't have a made a difference. Maybe we'd have scored more than 2 runs by the 6th inning and Ozzie wouldn't feel so obligated to stick with Vazquez in the 7th to give him the win. It's a thought, anyways.
  17. Ozzie is managing the same way he did last year. He's going to do some ridiculous things but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt after 2005. We've had a number of players underachieving, or just simply playing like spiff, so I'm going to put the blame on them.
  18. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 04:27 PM) I think it's time to create a new rally thing. The Rally Crede doesn't seem to be working anymore. Honestly. Yeah, I'm with that. Rally Crede is so 2005... we need to stay with the hot new trends. One reason the Angels haven't won a ring since 2002 is because they have stubbornly refused to replace the Rally Monkey. I'll support the Rally Seizure, if anything.
  19. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 09:47 PM) I can't wait to tell my grandkids this story some day: "Children, back in 2005 the White Sox had a magical season. They won the World Series for the first time in 88 years. The following year we all thought they would do better but their general manager traded for a played called Javier '$hitty pitcher' Vazquez. We called him that because he was a $hitty pitcher." Will that be a sub-chapter in the story of the "Greatest Five Man Rotation I Have Ever Seen"?
  20. Here's McCarthy. Just in case you had any hope for him starting a game here anytime soon.
  21. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 09:43 PM) I wish we could trade for Barry Zito. Unless he legally changes his name to Jose Zito on the plane ride over, he won't be starting in our rotation.
  22. "Stop worrying about the pitching. This offense will never slow down." --- Just about everybody 2 and half weeks ago.
  23. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 09:37 PM) Something to make you guys chuckle: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=148900 I didn't think it would, but you got me.
  24. "Vazquez can build on this start after looking great for the first 5 innings..."
