  1. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 01:19 PM) When does 2 runs = 5 or 7? Yeah, the Yankees have plenty more chances to tee off on Buehrle's meatballs.
  2. That inning was pretty much ruined by BA. We didn't need another hit to score there.
  3. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 10:23 AM) I thought the exact opposite. Oz never said they aren't going anywhere, instead he said, "Right now, those two are part of our team, and thats how we are going to treat it.: If im Freddy or Javy, that doesnt give me that much confidence. I thought his response in the papers was even more interesting... a non-denial denial: http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article...t=.jsp&c_id=cws
  4. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 08:37 PM) OMG GOOD TEAMS ACTUALLY LOSE GAMES That wasn't said at all when the Tigers were losing to the Red Sox and Yankees. It was mostly "they can't beat the good teams... they'll fade." Well, same could be said about the Sox.
  5. This is stupid. Cabrera is up next and Andy Phillips hits righties better than lefties anyway. Just leave Thornton in the game.
  6. I've been on our starters lately but this has been a nice outing by Jose. Numbers aren't great but he didn't get much help from the ump, and the Yanks got their first 2 runs thanks mainly to bloop hits. Good start... although I suppose with 97 pitches he may not be done.
  7. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:16 AM) I think things change. The mets are in a diar need for starting pitching, saying months prior that Milledge isn't available no longer has any meaning. Once again, things change. And once again, we are talking about Freddy Garcia. At best, a middle of the road starter with an 86-mph fastball. I'm sure the Royals would gladly take lesser prospects for Scott Elarton.
  8. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:05 AM) And somehow in a similar situation last year, McCarthy was inches away from being shipped to the Marlns. You might need to refresh my memory on this. I thought they were ready to trade Contreras/Marte instead of McCarthy. Still, AJ Burnett looked a whole lot better last year (3.33 ERA, 1.21 WHIP) than Garcia does now (4.91 ERA, 1.39 WHIP).
  9. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 10:57 AM) No, there won't be. Who is of more value than Freddy Garcia or Javier Vazquez? Zito isn't moving, Willis isn't moving. So who on earth are you referring to? From everything I read, Zito would be available provided you gave Beane the right combo of players. Schmidt also might be available. Regardless, we are talking about Freddy Garcia. You might give him the tag of "best starting pitcher available" but that really is meaningless. We've both seen Garcia pitch for the entire season. There's no way in the world I would give up our best prospects (Anderson, Fields, McCarthy) to trade for him if some other GM made him available.
  10. Minaya wouldn't trade Milledge for Zito. Why would he trade him for 2 guys that are considerably worse than Zito?
  11. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 10:26 AM) I think you are right. His antics the Boston series, showing up Iguchi, lost velocity, the alledged positive marijuana test at the WBC, and the fact that KW gave up a guy he had on his "3 year board" for Vazquez, would indicate to me that he would be reluctant to pull the plug on Vazquez after 3 months. If the Sox trade a starter, I would imagine it would be Garcia that KW would prefer to move. I wonder how much more than Gordon KW wants from Philadelphia. It's interesting because I can't imagine that being Ozzie's preference. By putting him only behind Contreras and Buehrle in the 2nd half starting rotation, Ozzie still probably considers Garcia our 3rd best pitcher, ahead of both Garland and Vazquez. Personally, I'm not too impressed with Vazquez's stuff or his approach. Garcia's not the same pitcher he once was, but as Hawk likes to say, "he will compete." That has some value in my book, and as we've seen, he can still have the occasional great game. If the Sox were in a must win situation in the playoffs or even at the end of the season, I would much rather have Garcia start that game than Vazquez.
  12. Whether or not these deals happen remains to be seen, but I am happy (if not surprised) KW's appearantly not satisfied with our starting rotation. The two discussed trades (for Sanchez or Gordon) would be good for us, imo. I do worry about Brandon making the transition back to starting this late in the year. Jason Schmidt, assuming McCarthy isn't used in the trade, would look really good in a Sox uni.
  13. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 03:03 PM) We easily take 2/3 if we don't choke away multiple scoring opportunities in which we could've blown each of the two games we lost wide open. Boston is a good team. I didn't need to see them take 2/3 from us to know that. But winning a series in early July doesn't make them better. Boston could say the same thing about yesterday's game. Remember Ortiz swinging 3-0? That game could have been over. Boston left much more men on base in the Saturday and Sunday games. They had one less guy left on base on Friday but that was a 7-2 game anyway.
  14. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 08:55 AM) BTW, when was the last a rumor like this was talked about with the Sox, and it actaully happened. I really cant remember a deal that went down that we all knew was going to happen.... Well, the Griffey rumors were spot on. That deal was in place... it didn't happen, but we knew the Sox had major interest in Griffey.
  15. I would trade anyone not named Fields or McCarthy for Gordon. Great power pitcher to have in October, although I don't think we can just assume he'll be this good for us for the next 2 years. Him being on a 3-yr contract isn't as exciting because of his age. You almost have to treat him like a free agent. Also, you have to be careful not to overuse the guy. IIRC, Torre burned him out for the playoffs the last 2 years.
  16. On one hand, I would love Jason Schmidt. He's the power pitcher we need for October. But giving up Brandon McCarthy is overpaying unless you're getting another young starting pitcher in return (only Willis comes to mind). It makes some sense if you're planning to resign Schmidt... the guy is 33, however, so would anyone want to give him a 3/4 year deal? Also, he's been good this season, but still not as dominating as in 2003/2004.
  17. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 06:23 PM) Row I am thinking now or never. I've been thinking now or never for the past 3 innings and our pitching has held up.
  18. QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 05:56 PM) I predict 16 innings. its almost midnight, i have class tomorrow, please end it. Where are you?
  19. Paulie trying to tie this game up should be pretty fun. I call the suicide shrug (TM southsideirish71) after the 5th pitch.
  20. Last thing I want to hear with this team is "standing pat" or "minor move." Hopefully this stretch can be a wakeup call to our front office.
  21. At the start of this series, I wanted to give the edge to our lineup, but their hitters have a much better approach to hitting. Boston looks to be superior to us in all aspects.
  22. Youklis has 4 f***ing walks today which is half of Uribe's total on the season.
