  1. QUOTE(The Critic @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 03:01 PM) Just doesn't seem to be happening for the Sox today. I hope I'm wrong, but the bounces and drops are all Boston right now. This is not about bounces. Jesus, they're just better than we are.
  2. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 03:01 PM) More runs score. Seems we can't beat good teams, just like the Tigers. The "Tigers are nothing to worry about because they can't beat good teams argument" probably won't be brought up anymore now that we're getting our brains beat-in by the Red Sox. Our pitching just f***ing sucks.
  3. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 02:35 PM) Nobody? And my personal concerns with Freddy have been well-documented. But when everyone's b****ing and crying about how awful our pitching is, that we need to make trades, blah blah blah, it gets tiring. Not as tiring as watching our pitching, I'm sure.
  4. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 02:35 PM) Garland warming? WTF? It's the All-Star break plus it's his side day.
  5. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 02:17 PM) Maybe it's time to accept that this team has a totally different identity/make-up from last season? That's fine but then we're back to being 2000-2004 White Sox. Thank God Ozzie took Garcia out.
  6. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 02:06 PM) Who the f*** cares about our playoff rotation right now. We're not going to trade for a starting pitcher!!!! When you have nearly 50 million locked up in your rotation this year, if they're not good enough to make the playoffs, YOU DON'T DESERVE TO MAKE IT! Well, who the f*** cares about the amount of money we have locked up in some part of the team. If they're not doing the job, which they're not, we better be looking for improvements.
  7. QUOTE(The Critic @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 02:03 PM) The Sox are just going to have to swing the bats and trust the bullpen. That's not a formula for winning in the post-season.
  8. Vazquez and Garcia can't start a playoff game. We NEED a starter... it's so ridiculously obvious.
  9. Bonderman against the Red Sox: 7.2 IP, 4 H, 2 BB, 6 K, 2 ER (W)
  10. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 01:55 PM) All you people fantasizing about Verlander or Bonderman please tell me what they have won besides a few regular season games? When they beat someone in the playoffs and win a game that truly means something then you can come to me and talk about how great they are. Ok, great analysis. I'd rather have Jon Garland over Roy Halladay because Garland's won a playoff game.
  11. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 01:51 PM) No. Im happy with what we have. That's insane.
  12. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 01:50 PM) Nobody ever said their performance was stellar but there's no reason to push the panic button just yet. The starters WILL get it together and when you marry that up with our killer offense that = repeat. At what point is it time to push the panic button? It has to be this month because after that there's absolutely nothing you can do about it.
  13. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 01:41 PM) That has no bearing on whether or not he prioritizes winning. We did have the best rotation going into the year. What are you talking about? It has all the bearing... It's pretty clear we need pitching help to win this season. KW will remain stubborn and not replace Vazquez despite the team needing pitching help. So he's prioritizing his ego over winning.
  14. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 01:37 PM) Who said or thinks he doesn't? Don't you think we need another starter. We've got 4 guys with 4+ ERAs. Do you think it's likely he'll acquire one? I sure don't... He'd have to admit a mistake on Vazquez.
  15. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 01:34 PM) It isn't happening....too many personalities involved to admit this isn't the world's greatest rotation. We're living or dying this year with the 5 starters we have. Then as I've said yesterday, Kenny is a horrible GM if he doesn't prioritize winning above all else. This staff isn't good enough to win a playoff series, and everybody can see that. We need another power arm in this rotation.
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 01:32 PM) I can't wait for one of our underachievers to be traded in the off season. We shouldn't be waiting that long, unless we're not planning to win a championship this season.
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 7, 2006 -> 10:12 PM) Basically that without his changeup, he can't be an effective pitcher. The thing that's worrying me about McCarthy is that all of his pitches are up in the zone. Even in games he does well, he gives up a ton of long fly outs. Do any of our resident scouts want to tell me what happened to his change? I know he had a problem throwing in last year's first half as well. I thought that was his plus pitch?
  18. Widger's game calling is not the problem. Our starting pitching just hasn't been that good. Mark's meatballs won't fool good hitting teams like the Indians or Red Sox. That his CERA is higher than AJ's is due to a smaller sample size. He probably hasn't caught Contreras as much as the rest of the other staff.
  19. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 7, 2006 -> 09:50 PM) Can't get too concerned, as there's nothing you or I can do, and I'm confident in saying there's nothing KW and Ozzie are going to do. Well, then they should be fired if they can't admit mistakes and don't want to do what's good for the team.
  20. Is anyone at least remotely concerned that one of our top two pitchers now has a 4 ERA (this coupled with 3 other starters who also have 4+ ERAs)? We've got the worst pitching staff of any of the current playoff teams.
  21. I keep thinking there's no way this offense can keep scoring runs like this but they're just not slowing down.
  22. Hawk and DJ really building up Tejada there. Hmmmm... Do they know something? QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 6, 2006 -> 09:25 PM) If the Sox count on Hermanson at all this year, they will be in trouble. My best cast scenerio for him this season is Politte-like. Dustin is trying, I commend him for that, but if he's not 100% he will get killed. You mean kill-t.
  23. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 5, 2006 -> 11:48 PM) If he can get his changeup just a bit better (in terms of location) and we'll see the guy that was really good and one of our aces for most of last year. Good point. He tends to leave that changeup up and over the plate, even in yesterday's good start. He can still be good without it, just maybe not dominating like he was last season.
  24. Awesome and very encouraging game from Garland. We need at least one other guy to step up and then live with some of the incosistency from the other two. If it's Garland, then all the better as he's our youngest starter. One thing that Hawk and DJ have mentioned is that Jon has struggled with his changeup this season. I think that was still the case today as he left that pitch up and over the plate a lot, but overall it was a very nice start.
