  1. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jul 2, 2006 -> 03:17 PM) Quick guys, name me two starting pitchers with at least 10 starts that have not had two bad outings this year Buehrle has had like 5 bad starts already so I'm missing your point.
  2. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 2, 2006 -> 03:12 PM) You know how Buehrle has about 3 or 4 games a year in which he gets rocked? This was one of those games. He had nothing from the first pitch. He's already had 4 games where he's gotten rocked this year so I hope that means he's automatic from here on out.
  3. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 2, 2006 -> 03:10 PM) Detriot gets out of it, however in the top 7th, Detriot score 5 times. In the bottom half, Pitt scored 6. It happens to other teams boys, even the mighty Tigers.. It's been a trend for us lately, though. Not an isolated occurence.
  4. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 2, 2006 -> 03:06 PM) When's the last time a team won the WS without a really good rotation? I'm not saying the starters can't turn it around, but they're sure making it look scary right now. I think the Angels were the only team I can remember without any truly dominating starters. However, their bullpen was incredible.
  5. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jul 2, 2006 -> 03:01 PM) We're 53-27 blah blah blah. Complain about this when complaint is actually warranted. We haven't lost a series in about a month, and a bunch of those teams we faced are going to be playoff teams, including Detroit. I swear to god, some of you would probably kill yourselves if you were faced with rooting for a team that is ACTUALLY struggling. Grow a thicker skin, stop projecting three months out, and maybe look back on your posts during August 2005, (during a certain 7 game losing streak), and have a few laughs. Reading is a skill.
  6. Personally, watching this team outslug opponents isn't even fun. Some people might like it but that type of style won't win you s*** when it really counts. This team needs better pitching. And please save your "we're 53-27 BLAH BLAH BLAH..." posts.
  7. Not a bad outing at all. Just 2 innings where he tipped his pitches.
  8. Here's how our supposedly dominant starting pitching has done against 3 of the worst hitting offenses in the league. 6.1 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 4 K 5 IP, 8 H, 5 ER, 5 BB, 2 K 6 IP, 10 H, 9 ER, 2 BB, 3 K 7 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 K 6 IP, 10 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3 K 5.1 IP, 12 H, 6 ER, 2 BB, 4 K 6 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 K 6 IP, 11 H, 5 ER, 1 BB, 7 K 3 IP, 8 H, 7 ER, 0 BB, 8 K (will be updated accordingly) That's pretty damn pathetic. If I'm KW, I sure as hell wouldn't have any loyalty to Vazquez. If Smoltz or Willis are really available in trade, then we should get them.
  9. KW needs to get us a starter. We can't live with a decent outing here and there from Vazquez, Garland, and Garcia when our two "sure thing" pitchers are prone to getting their asses kicked like they have their last two starts.
  10. QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Jul 2, 2006 -> 01:51 PM) if mark was tipping his pitches then it will be fixed and he goes 5 or 6 more scoreless GREAT!
  11. Our starting pitching has been terrible lately. We're not winning anything in the playoffs if this continues.
  12. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Jul 1, 2006 -> 03:47 PM) Neither of us started a freaking thread ripping a player individually. :headshake I dont see the point of it when three of our players failed to get bunts down. Uribe, Gooch and Anderson all failed. Uribe got bailed out by the HBP. It's a little different. Those guys have at least hit their weight and have made much bigger offensive contributions to the team. You absolutely must execute bunts when you're hitting .170.
  13. I'd bet the Mets would take him in a second. Still, I can't see KW admitting to a possible mistake this early.
  14. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jul 1, 2006 -> 02:59 PM) For a guy hitting .170, not getting the bunt down is unacceptable. Unf***ingacceptable. I'm just about done with this experiment. I've said all along that if he can't make productive outs and move the runners over, he no longer needs to be in there when it counts. What happened today is embarassing. I agree with you completely but then I see Mack stumbling all over himself in center and suddenly Anderson doesn't look so bad. If you're suggesting we get someone from outside the ORG then I would agree with that.
  15. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 1, 2006 -> 02:03 PM) Vazquez and prospects for Shields and Figgins would be a pretty sweet little deal. If we had to take on some of Weaver's contract (just to make the Angels happy, than thats fine too). Put Mac in the rotation (somewhere he belongs and we can end that experiment and hopefully get him back to where he was last year, which was a pitcher that was pretty darn good). The Angels don't need him; their rotation is full with Colon, Lackey, Escobar, Santana, and the younger Weaver.
  16. It was a nice start by Jon but he's fooled us a few times this season. Please keep it up.
  17. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 30, 2006 -> 09:37 AM) While I agree with the point that our pitching needs to be better, this team is no where near what last years Red Sox were even with the struggles we have going on right now. Boston's game one starter last year had an era over 4.5 with like a 6 era in the 2nd half. We still have two very good starters at the moment and a very good bullpen where the Red Sox had an absolutely horrible pen last year and 0 starting pitching. Not to nitpick, but one of our "two very good starters at the moment" is busy posting a 6.21 ERA this month, making him not such a very good starter at the moment. I do agree, our pitching is better than Boston's last year. That's nothing to be proud of, imo. Looking at the current playoff teams: Boston Detroit White Sox Oakland I would say we have the weakest starting pitching, and that won't be close when Harden returns for Oakland.
  18. QUOTE(tealeafreaderii @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 05:05 PM) ESPN just said jose has been topping out at 84 and 85... saying they suspect an elbow issue? the game wasn't broadcast in my area... is this true? I watched the first 2 innings and I saw him sitting at 92 and 93. He had bad location the entire day and his forker was just floating up there for the most part. But who reported that on ESPN?
  19. I was planning on starting a similar thread to see what people think of our starters. Honestly, our starters have become our biggest weakness. I'm just looking at what happens in October; last year we have 4 good starters, right now we seem to have 1.5. But I'm curious what people think we should do (not necessarily what they think will happen): Would you leave everything as is, hoping our 3-4-5 guys get out of their funk and Contreras gets back on track? Should we give McCarthy a shot instead of Vazquez or Garland? Would you want Kenny to look for possible upgrades on the trade market? Or would you not even worry about it and let the offense carry us through the season and hopefully the playoffs?
  20. I'm pretty confident the Sox will make the playoffs, I guess. It's winning in the playoffs that has me worried. Our team reminds of last year's Red Sox (great hitting, suspect pitching) whereas the Tigers remind me of last year's White Sox (great SP, good bullpen, low OBP, can hit homers). We know what happened in the playoffs.
  21. QUOTE(longshot7 @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 04:29 PM) Maroth=not good. And does Franklin German really give you the heebie-jeebies? You're right, I'm not worried about a Florida Marlins pitcher.
  22. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 03:43 PM) That's a whole lot of money for the performances they've been putting in. Get off the ledge.
  23. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 03:38 PM) But we lost a game to Pittsburgh! That's it! Blow this team up! They proved that they're not able to win effectively anymore. Just have a massive firesale. Perhaps we could maybe get Kerry Wood for Thome and Kong. Or maybe we can just get our hands back on HOF catcher Miguel Olivo again. I mean why wouldn't we want that Hall of Famer? Scary part about the above is I could remove the green and it'd be serious for some posters around here. Christ... -You have people on this board expecting 60 HRs from a player and are disappointed when it doesn't happen. -We're 24 games over .500 right right so there is no need for all the Chicken Little-isms that one loss to Pittsburgh is going to mean that we'll suddenly not get into the playoffs *cough Wild Card lead cough* -Just like there is no attendance award -- Correct me if I'm wrong here but there is no award for winning the most games in the regular season. As long as we get a spot in the playoffs, that's what matters. It gets us an opportunity to win another championship. That said, continue jumping off the ledge about how we're suddenly going to become the new Royals. No one, not even the pessimists, are saying any of these things. But it's easy to argue charicatures...
  24. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 03:36 PM) How much money does our rotation make this year? $45.5M if my math is correct.
  25. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 03:33 PM) If you're "on the ledge" right now after one loss in pittsburgh, jesus f***ing christ how did you ever survive 01-03 without killing yourselves several times over It's not the loss to the Pirates. I could care less about one game, and I've said as much in the game thread. It's the continued struggles of our starters that have me worried.
