  1. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 03:33 PM) What reason have they given you to think that they won't? How about the fact that we have 4 guys having career seasons.
  2. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 03:28 PM) Again, I'm a little shocked that people are jumping off ledges about a team still on pace to win 103+ games this season. If you can tell me our offense will continue to lead the league in scoring, I'll get off the ledge.
  3. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 03:24 PM) I'd take Liriano and Santana over any of our SP right now, and it's not close So what is that say about our chances against the Twins?
  4. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 03:11 PM) The only thing that concerns me about this game is Count. He said that he back and legs were hurting in his last start, where he gave up too many runs as well. I hope that isn't the case here. Do you remember which paper you read this? I read the Trib and Sun-times and there was no mention of it...
  5. Politte sucks but whatever. If your ace pitcher is giving up 5 runs on 12 hits in 5 IP, you don't deserve to win the game. That was the main reason we lost. I just hope KW won't be stubborn and evaluates our starting pitching for what it is, and not how it's paid, or what it was/should be.
  6. The loss to me is almost secondary. I'd feel better about this game if we had lost 2-1 than if we do actually win 7-6.
  7. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 01:52 PM) When I hear the words in shambles I think of this: I think you and I have much different definitions. I understand that we're winning these games, and that's great and all, but I don't think we're built to outscore teams in the long-haul. At some point, our starting pitching is going to have to be good again. I'm not counting on Garcia on regaining his stuff, or that Garland will magically regain his form from '05 midway through this season. Vazquez has the most potential but he's a good bet to stay inconsistant. We NEED Jose to pitch like he has earlier in the season otherwise I don't think we can maintain this pace.
  8. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 01:40 PM) Thanks, but I'll pass on that. Regardless of when you starting ripping the entire rotation it's still undeserved and completely off base to call the starting staff "in shambles" as you did a few minutes ago. I've collected all the information I need. Here's the June ERA of our starters: 5.57+, 4.81, 4.78, 7.50, 3.89 Pretty dominating to say the least. *Celebrates* I think "in shambles" is an apt description.
  9. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 01:33 PM) I'm not blindly satisfied at all with our starters. They have under performed. Garland has been terrible most of the year, Garcia is mediocre but wins games, Mark has been Mark, Jose hasn't look that great since coming off the DL and Javy Vazquez is erratic as to be expected. It has been far from dominant but when your record is 51-26 how freaking upset can I possibly be? Knee jerk reactions are awesome Maybe you need someone to explain to you the concept of a knee jerk reaction? I've been saying our starting pitching hasn't been good for nearly a month. Feel free to read up on that.
  10. So seriously, what's the deal with Jose? Is he just not as good as we thought during his 2005 2nd half/pre-DL 2006 streak? Is the league adjusting to him? Or has he just had bad location during this month?
  11. We're not winning anything with this starting pitching. It's really become the weak spot of our team, more so than CF, SS, or the bullpen. I can't believe people can be so blindly satisfied with our starters.
  12. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 01:24 PM) I hope you're happy now. No, because he ended up pitching poorly.
  13. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 01:18 PM) WOW..we are 11-1 in our last 12 games and you made this comment...awesome How many quality starts have had in that span? Our offense has been great, no doubt about it.
  14. Well, Contreras is at 84 pitches. I would much rather see if he can straighten himself out the rest of the game, even if it means losing. Our starting pitching is in shambles right now.
  15. If we look at his 2005, Vazquez is pretty much on track for a repeat performance of last season: couple of good months, couple of bad months, pretty average overall. 2005 April - 6.11 May - 2.15 June - 6.75 July - 3.71 August - 7.09 September - 2.93 October - 1.13 (1 start) 2006 April - 3.67 May - 3.99 June - 7.50 It's pretty good for a 5th starter, although he's not paid like one, nor do we really have reliable 3rd and 4th starters at this point. I hope at least one of Garland/Garcia/Vaz pitches up to the expectations because, although we currently have a good offense, there's 4 players (Konerko, Dye, Crede, AJP) performing above their career norms. I'm worried this trend won't continue throughout the year. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 08:07 PM) Yeah, Gload has more range than Dye. Well, Gload is faster. Have you seen Dye play RF this year?
  16. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 07:46 PM) Yes he would have. Gload came close to catching it with a horrible jump, and the fact that his glove was on his right hand hurt his chances as well. Dye would have had it without a dive. Jermaine Dye looks like he runs in cement half the time. No way he gets to that ball on anything less than a bounce.
  17. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 07:38 PM) I agree with you Zoom. For me, give me mental problems over physical problems any day of the week. Jon has been quoted as saying he just isn't confident going inside, at least not as confident as he was last year. That is something that can be corrected. Garcia on the other hand has simply lost zip on most, if not all his pitches. Freddy is one of the biggest gamers out there, and I have alot of respect for that, but I'll take my chances on fixing a still growing Jon Garland than declining Freddy... This is an interesting question. Garcia this season reminds me of Colon his first year with the Angels. Bart lost his stuff that year too, but rebounded last season to win the Cy Young. With Garland, it's difficult to say whether he's a better bet to rebound next year. His 2005 might just be a career year making him a one year wonder. On the other hand, there's a bigger payoff in straigthening out Garland because he's 3/4 years younger than Garcia.
  18. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 03:17 PM) Im starting to become not as high on McCarthy as I once was... if we could add Tejeda I wouldnt mind parting with B-Mac. Think of the offensive power we would be.... I would agree with you if Garcia/Vazquez/Garland weren't so piss poor this season. As it is, I'm hopeful McCarthy can get into the rotation next year.
  19. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 25, 2006 -> 09:04 PM) Because we have McCarthy waiting for his turn in the bullpen. You should know better than to think Ozzie's going to demote one of his starting pitchers. Vazquez and Garcia could have 20.5 ERAs, and they'd be safe. All I'm saying is McCarthy isn't going to start over anyone in this rotation. So to me, talking about McCarthy is a moot point. The only way one of Vazquez, Garcia, or Garland moves to the bullpen is if KW actually acquires another high caliber, veteran pitcher. I realize it won't probably won't happen, but I think it should, and that's why I mentioned it.
  20. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 25, 2006 -> 08:58 PM) It's just that it would make no sense for us to get another starter. I disagree. We have 3 starters underperforming; why wouldn't it make sense to acquire another good starter? It won't happen, but not because it makes little sense.
  21. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jun 25, 2006 -> 08:54 PM) Then quiet about us acquiring a pitcher. Jesus. Please sign me up to your baseball newsletter.
  22. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jun 25, 2006 -> 08:52 PM) We won't acquire a starter, if anyone goes into the rotation, it'll be Mac. End of discussion. Well, you and I both know he's not going into the rotation.
  23. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jun 25, 2006 -> 08:47 PM) We have an adequate starter in the pen, his name is B-Mac. Ozzie's not giving up his son-in-law's rotation spot, or his Puerto Rican golfing buddy's rotation spot, or the 3yr-$30 M extension guy's spot to a rookie. Only way another starter gets into this rotation is if KW swallows his pride and adds another starter.
  24. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 25, 2006 -> 08:42 PM) What are 4.66, 4.77, and 5.76? I said it once and I'll say it again, if we have a shot at acquiring another good starting pitcher then we shouldn't hesitate. Our starting pitching is average, maybe even below average with Jose struggling lately.
  25. Man, he's really pitching himself out of that Cy Young spot. Sigh.
